A movie that will have you reading Literature
8 July 2006
I normally don't do literature, more of a movie fanatic as you can tell. But this movie was so well done that, I felt the urge to pick up Dicken's books. The cinematography was beautiful. Moreover, Paltrow and Hawk had sex appeal. I fell in love with the movie. From the the first kiss to the first heartbreak. You will experience what it feels to truly want something but know that you will never get it. This is a bit of a whimsical movie such that you are a in a topsy-turvy world but you don't care because you're sitting back and enjoying the ride. This is a great movie for anyone who is a romantic at heart. Come on, give it a shot. What do you have to lose on a hot boring summer day?

Brilliantly genius??
3 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Brilliantly genius? not a chance. Does it come close? Ehh, nope. I am really surprised it got 8/10 stars! I gave it 6.5/10 stars and here is why.

I love movies with a nice message, albeit corny at times ;) BUT, a movie with only a semi-original message doesn't make a great movie ..if it lacks other necessary aspects. Yes, this movie had an interesting metaphor, but it lacked a great screenplay and believable characters! I have a simile of my own. This movie was like a sinking ship! It took really long time to go down, sucked you in for a couple of minutes and left you for bare/alone for the sharks.

Here is my opinion and I just watched this movie today. Few Spoilers

-I got annoyed by the product placements. Can they be more obvious? Yes. Sure they do this in movies, but come one! They started right from the beginning of the movie with the Hewlett computer. And guess what ? since nothing else is happening in the scene, your attention is going to be wandering around. I have to say, the other movie with Scarlett (The Island) had a lot of product placements too. Coincidence?? If I'm fully enjoying the movie, i don't mind as much. But when the movie slows down and gets boring , it really starts grating on my nerves.

  • the movie started really really slow. This guy's life is changing. He's getting married, having an affair with a beautiful woman. Has a new career because of his new father-in-law. You would think he would be more happy/excited! But no...

  • the plot started to pick up in the middle. I can't say why because I'll spoil the whole movie for those of you who want to watch it.

  • the ending flunked. Scene with the cops was a joke. I'm sorry to say. I can see how this movie can remind other people of previous movies they have seen of love ,lust, sex, betrayal. But this movie surpassed all that. Aha! Luck seemed to be their additional ingredient. Sadly, the movie reminded me of the Scott Peterson trial/case.

-the message of the movie was...just ..can't finish this sentence. "Depends on your luck".. and there goes the message!? Can see half the audience agree with it and the other half rolling their eyes. Yes, the movie spoon-fed the message from the beginning...but was this really necessary?

This movie wasn't THAT bad; had it's redeeming qualities. The screenplay was bad (conversations b/w the lead characters was corny/laughable) and the ending sucked/rushed . But the movie had an important message and a nice trailer. If they like the trailer, more people will see it. Who cares if they come out of it entertained/satisfied or not. At least that is what happened to me. Anywho, here is the message once again "It's your luck" ...and that is how many times they reminded you.

Good luck in watching the film...if you do decide to watch it after all.

Get Ready for THE Train Wreck
10 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
What can I say?? This movie isn't for everyone. It doesn't have much of a plot nor any decent characters. It's a major train wreck, it doesn't feel right watching an accident happen but you just can't take your eyes of it. It's kinda making fun of a mentally challenged person..you know it's not right but you can't help yourself.

A lot of the movie leaves the audience filling in the blank. If you like movies that are like this ....then go for it. If your a sane person and are watching the movie, you constantly find yourself asking "why the heck are they (characters)doing that?". For example, two of the main characters (kids/teeneagers)kill cats to make money. Not only do they kill the poor cats, they actually torture them. Then they take the money that they make selling the cats (didn't get why the grocery manager will want to buy them except to sell them to people and pretend its meat...ewww)and go sleep with a prostitute. In another scene, two boys "kill" and name call another boy with rabbit ears on. It's sad. Not only is it said, it shows how naive, stupid people can be. I couldn't believe those grown up teenagers got in the car with the creepy old guy. Hello??? Clearly they aren't thinking. If you think the kids are bad, wait until you meet the adults. Getting drunk and punching the s*it out of a chair isn't my idea of fun.

In a way, I can see that a lot of people can read into the movie. They can say it addresses discrimination, hate, self-confidence, love, hope and loss. For each viewer it's different. It doesn't really open your eyes to the issues but it puts it in front of you and if your smart/observant enough , you will see it. For me, it's just shows a very sad lifestyle of people who live differently than me.

An Adorable film for all Ages!
24 November 2005
I usually do not do family films. But I decided to take my little cousin out to see this. He loved it ..I thought it was sweet. How can you not love a little chicken with big ,adorable nerdy glasses. The other characters are funny, especially the pig ;). This movie kinda reminded me of Shrek..but it wasn't exactly the same. The jokes were more directed the child audience vs. the adult audience (like in Shrek). Just a fun movie to watch with your kids. What else can I say about this movie to fill up the ten lines for the review? The movie was kinda predictable ..asuming you are aware of the whole Chicken little story. The kids seemed to get a laugh or two from all of the characters.
