Zerkalo (1975)
The Mirror is the best art film I've ever seen
I love Tarkovsky's films, because his "paintings" are real art. Tarkovsky is a genius, and this is indisputable. Perhaps, "Mirror" - its best work though I like both "Stalker", and "Andrei Rublev" at all is not less. In "Mirror" all best qualities of Tarkovsky as director, or, better to say, as artist are concentrated. Here there is a philosophical style of the story, and entertaining landscapes, and an excellent acting game. I like interpretation that "Mirror" is about ourselves: we watch this movie as on a mirror, and, in fact, we see reflection ourselves, but not reflection of the world of the director. Here the human reaction to this reflection is important, which completely depends on how active, deep and human we are. This film can be revised for a long time, at least in order to better understand oneself, one's emotions, one's feelings on the most important and intimate questions. These questions concern everyone: attitude to relatives, understanding of another (person), the essence of loneliness, the meaning of existence and, of course, about the value of being. It will not be superfluous to say that the musical accompaniment is up to the mark, and Margarita Terekhova is charming.
For me, The Mirror, along with Mulholland Drive and some of Bergman's masterpieces, is the best movie ever made.
