Chafed Elbows (1966)
one of my favorites
I saw chafed elbows at the underground movies in about 1968. Very cheap production- rapid fire still pictures with a hilarious soundtrack.
The throwaway one liners have a cumulative effect. A few of my favorites: Walter is walking down a side street in New York. A man is sitting in the middle of the street with a can of white paint and a brush painting a line down the middle. Walter says, "What's going on here?" Man says, "You've gotta draw the line somewhere!" You can never guess what the next line is. In another scene, Walter sits in a pew in church. A naked woman appears in the pew right behind him and says, "I'll give you five dollars for your socks. I'm a sock sniffer." Walter, completely serious, says, "How can you think about sniffing socks when all those people are starving in China?"
