Tian · Huo (2019)
This is the Safest Place on the Earth...
Or so says the Tour Guide on the Fledgling Facilities perched on the edge of a whopping big Volcano, that has indeed, in the scheme of things, recently exploded. I immediately admired the Chinese sense of optimism. Optimistic too was the young Scientist whose Mum was killed in the previous explosion when she was a child. However, she is all grown up, and is now a Volcano expert on the Island her Mum was burned to death on. Her Dad, an experienced Vulcanologist, survived the first explosion and comes to the Island to warn his daughter it is going to happen again. Only to find that of course his daughter is over 18, knows all, and refuses to leave when Dad says, Hey it is gonna blow up. Because she is a Modern Girl, Dads experience counts for zero...And thanks for that otherwise all the explosions, screams and thrills would have also counted for naught. This is for Disaster movie fans of course....enjoy..
The Gentlemen (2019)
Not a fan of this one so much...
Let me say I love Lock Stock and Snatch. This most certainly is not them. The story driven plot is mainly delivered by a camp Hugh Grant, which reviewers seem to be gushing about. I do not see why. Hugh did that standing on his head. Look, most of the acting was fine, I like Matthew Mc, I like Sons of Anarchy dude, even though he bodged his accent badly at times, sometimes London, sometimes Irish, sometimes yank. I liked Colin and the supporting cast did a great job, and I really like British Gangster flicks, with or without comedy. I think the real issue here for me was that the script, was not enough. Not enough flavour, not enough spice, not enough juice, not enough to say great film, but enough to say formulaic.
The Spy Who Never Dies (2022)
Strangely Watchable
Well, a 600 minimum character required review is going to be a bit of a stretch for this easy to watch spy spoof. Look, much of this movie including , the script, the acting, the comedy, the budget, the effects, the editing, the comedic timing, the action sequences, is I must admit, on the whole, fits into the class of average. Yes, no big awards for this one, no role out the red carpet and guzzle buckets of champers with scantily clad women for this film. However, if you cracked a beer for your self, and maybe a cool aid for the kids, slipped the shoes off, and stretched back on the recliner rocker and relaxed, you might just find you enjoy it. Some how it is a bit of fun. Enjoy.
The Meg (2018)
Relax People it's not meant to be Shakespeare.
Well, many people seem to be panning this film, and I struggle to understand why. If you like Lock and Stock Jason Stratham, who admittedly usually plays the same style of character in his movies, you will enjoy this. We have a trapped sub, a bloody big shark, and some heroes to rescue them. Yep, that will do me for an easy Sunday Arvo. We have the man from the Longmire TV show, as an Aussie always happy to see an Aussie in films. BTW my cousin met him in a bar in Melbourne, and said he was a lovely man. We have a dude that looks like Sulu from Star Trek. We have a guy who looks like Mickey Rourke with.an extra 3 stone on. We have a guy from Korean movies, a couple of other I recognise from movies. We have some ladies that are easy on the eye, and an obligatory tattooed woman. Yeah as some said, the child is annoying, but I thought all kids were. I recommend you chill out, fire up a Fatty and take it for what it is, a film for fun.
Brave New World (2020)
Welcome to your future!
This trully feels like a prophetic vision, first written in 1931, however updated for today. There is a type of Social Credit scoring which is alive and well in China. We have tech that enables sharing of what can be seen and felt, Elon Musk has a company currently making Brain implants. We have AI control, which The technocrat movement in the 1930's advocated and has been developed.. We have everyone on drugs for mood control, well we have anti-depressants. We see huge class disparity, which we have now. We have all children born in labs. We now have artificial wombs. See what is coming. When you consider this it actually makes for scary viewing, we may not be that far off for this to be true. Also enjoy the show. Episode 1 establishes slowly, but once you get a feel for this it will have you hooked. The leads take a little time to like as in this society emotion is not to be displayed, as you are then a destabilsing influence to the social body. It is an interesting struggle to find self in a society where privacy is outlawed. Get into it..
Tinker' (2017)
What's not to like!
Tinkering with Tesla Tech, Rural lifestyle, Family Bonds, Home Truths with Competent and Realistic Acting and an engaging drama. Not for the tweens, or the Impatient generation, this evolving story has an underlying warmth, and sense of community, and traditional values that would appeal to people 40 plus, sick of violence and lust in their films. I was captured by this film.
Fresh (2022)
Having a friend over for dinner?
Liked the way the film introduced an unexpected theme. I've never dated via an Application, and sure won't start now. Best not to know much about the film, but a dating flick it is not. Seemed like may happen in real life and we see also the symbolism on the dinner plates (of one of the buyers) the Goat of Mendes, and a Masonic Lodge ring. Sppooky, queasy feelings when you watch this.
L'uomo del labirinto (2019)
Few chills and no spills
Average child kidnapper film with few highlights to be seen. Average job from Dustin, and Valentina looks very much like a man for most of the film, which added little to the realism. No real ups and down, an average plot twist in a poorly paced film.
Atiye (2019)
The Stone and the Spirit
There's alot to like here. Ancient Archeology, an appealing female lead on a spiritual quest, and all set in the eye catching location of Turkey. I am enjoying this, as we discover more about the lead, we discover more about the ancient site it is set around. I am watching in Turkish with English subtitles, and have no issues, but I am a fast reader. Good to see also a show with virtually nil violence. Recommended self discovery mystery journey.
Wounded (1997)
We forget the pacing was different..
Today's films, with a thumping score that overshadows the plot, and little to add besides action, I am happy to return to the slower pace of movies in the 90's and 80's where I can actually digest my meal. Enjoy the scenery, and the plot building before killing. Thanks enjoy this one.
