Avatar: The Last Airbender: Bato of the Water Tribe (2005)
One of the worst episodes in the series.
I feel like Katara and Sokka almost abandoning Aang just because he withheld something from them for a few days is so out of character. It made me like all their characters just a little bit less. Also Uncle Iroh was an actual pervert to this young girl, which creeped me out tremendously. This was probably the worst episode of the series--I have seen the whole series a few years back and I am rewatching it--but even at ATLA's worst, the show is not unwatchable.
Schindler's List (1993)
A Peer into the flaws of human nature
I wish everybody could watch this masterpiece, but some of the imagery and ideas in this movie are too harsh for those who are not prepared. Of course, the gore and murder of Jews depicted here is downright appalling and horrific, and it was hard to not look away at times. What really got me thinking was human nature and how our pride and conformity can lead to irrevocable tragedies like the Holocaust. I think it is infinitely important that everybody takes a hard look at themselves so that they can analyze how they treat other people, but that takes strength and determination.
Soul (2020)
An unfinished, mediocre Pixar movie
Soul has a few good things going for it, but by the time I got to the end of it, I was just disappointed. There was not much of a resolution, and it is sad because limitations on this film, probably caused by the pandemic, are unignorable. I found the whole message about purpose in life was trying so hard to be deep and profound but in reality sounded quite juvenile to my ears. Why are people falling in love with Soul? Sure, it was decent at certain points, but I think there should be a higher standard in the industry. I've seen better, and I hope to see better from Pixar in the future.
