A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017)
Disappointing
Comparing books, movie and TV series would be unfair but necessary to get a good understanding of the rating I gave. What I don't understand is that the Movie with Jim Carey was inspiring and had many excellent actors who did their job well, yet it got lower ratings than this TV version with less talented stars and lackluster performances. The design and production was well done, very much lending from the movie ideas. This is not a slow drama and needed more punch and sparkle. A narrator needs to lay down the emotional tension and feel and here was truly uninspiring. It's like everyone was on an emotional strike. Mr Poe was incorrectly cast. That all said, Count Olaf was well acted and think he did a great job in the shadow of Jim Carey's previous flawless performance in the movie version.
Is a rating system like IMDb'S accurate and infallible - I don't think so! Please producers. Take heed of the fact that most of the remakes these days are not cutting it
Beggars and Choosers (1999)
amusing comedy drama
I particularly enjoyed great performances from many talented actors especially Tuc Watkins and am looking forward to seeing the whole series again. Any new release on DVD would be welcome. This series is definitely worth a watch if you have a sense of humor and not necessarily into sitcoms but a more subtle type of humor. The series deepens in perspective in the next season and maintains it's original appeal. What a pity it ended so soon. More of this type of comedy drama is needed on TV. Subsequent seasons have great additions to the cast which keep the story fresh. I also liked very much a quirky opening credit and theme tune.
