Griselda (2024)
Not perfect but very good!
I just want to start explaining for those who complain about the too many subtitles that the switching between English and Spanish was purposely done to achieve an organic and realistic effect. When a group of Latino or other immigrants gather they naturally will speak in their mother tongue, if in the room there's an anglophone or any other person that doesn't speak their language, they will naturally switch to English go be able to communicate. I think doing this was GREAT. I praise Netflix for bringing more and more international shows acustomizing lazy viewers to read subtitles, there are wonderful shows out there not in English. Now, what I liked a lot. The cinematography, make up, customes, soundtrack and 70s 80s setting was phenomenal. Acting overall very good, kudos to Sofia for moving out of her comfort zone, her performance even though not perfect, was really good. What I like less: The script fell short a bit, specially in the last two episodes, Some characters like Marta Ochoa and the marielitos were presented in a kind of clownish version and over acted. Also felt some characters could have been developed more to add more character to the story.
La Mesías (2023)
Wanted to like it, but couldn't even finish it.
I had very big expectations for this series as I love what these two geniuses create, unfortunately it wasn't the case this time. Photography and cinematography are on point, sound as usual is impeccable, where it lacks substance is the story itself. Boring, full of clichés, very slow development of the main story at times overwhelming stretch of useless scenes that don't contribute at all with the narrative.
Acting is stellar for most characters with a few exceptions. Lola Dueñas steals the show, unfortunately the same can't be said for some others like Ana Rujas, who replayed the same character of her past show "Cardo".
This time the Javis missed big time creating a piece too ambitious for commercial television.
Mujeres asesinas (2022)
Poorly written and produced.
This new adaptation is poorly written, the story drags slowly and does not make the case for you to justify why these women get to kill. Overall it doesn't have the dramatic impact the original had. Acting in some of the episodes is really bad, like the one with Jeded. They even had to made up a silly excuse in the story to explain why her accent was so strong. Direction omg, drone shots very amateurish, and color filters poorly chosen. Overall it looks like a cheap telenovela. Some stories should be let alone. The original had it's time and impact, they didn't succeed bringing it back. It explains why when they tried to adapt it for the English market they didn't succeed.
