Infinitum: Subject Unknown (2021)
Low budget brilliance
I'm a big fan of the director (loved The Isle a couple of years back) so maybe I'm biased but what he managed to do during a lockdown with a crew of two on an iPhone is nothing short of miraculous.
The poster does make it seem like a much bigger budget affair but once you get past that and realise the craftsmanship that went into it, you'll be blown away. And yes I'm aware that the filmmakers have nothing to do with the poster! Just don't come into this thinking its Tenet.
Actually, even though it deals with time loops and alternate realities, this is much easier to follow than Tenet and far more satisfying.
Tori Butler-Hart is incredible in that she is on screen for almost every second of this film, often alone, and carries it beautifully.
A truly great film of the COVID-era and one that will stand the test of time and be a great example of the art to come out of it.
The Limehouse Golem (2016)
Late to the party on this
But I enjoyed it. It has quite a lot of flaws, and this is shown in the fact that it was in development for years, but the final product is good and deserves to be seen by more people over here.
The Isle (2018)
Great reviews - Not Wrong
It's a great movie if you know what you're in for. A clever, slow-burn, thriller that looks and sounds stunning. Great acting and very satisfying to all the senses.
I'm an old-school movie guy, I also produce movies, and can see the quality of this despite what I'm guessing is a low-budget.
Wholly recommend to the discerning viewer, and not to those who don't understand the meaning of discerning.
And that's no bad thing; the best movies throughout history always had people who didn't understand it at first.
Annihilation (2018)
Will be appreciated in years to come
I keep saying I don't like writing reviews but here's another mini one.
I really enjoyed this movie, much like I really enjoyed Dune when it first came out...and when most people didn't think much of it. But that has since become a cult classic, and I think this will go the same way.
Nothing is perfect, but this is an intelligent, interesting movie that should be watched. But watch it BIG!
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
It's not that bad!
Jeez, guys, come on. I don't like writing on here but some of these reviews, "I feel like America is finished", that's just hilarious.
OK, so it's not perfect, but no movie is and I remember when the originals came out, not everyone was on board then either.
And it's really not something to get worked up about and turn to writing horrible things about.
Two Down (2015)
Old School Movie for a new audience
I produce, I don't review, but after seeing that there are some obviously malicious and fake (I hate that word at the moment but there it is), reviews about this movie, I had to write what I thought. (It's becoming common practice now and I despise it).
I produce movies in LA and sometimes the UK and have done so for almost 5 decades. So for young filmmakers like these to understand the kind of movies we were doing in the 1970's, but but to set it in present day London, with all kinds of twists, and on what I presume was a small budget, is nothing short of miraculous.
And to those fake reviews who say 'who would have have rated this 10', well look at all the awards and reviews from actual reviewers in publications....lots of people. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but this looks like some kind of business plan that some bitter person has paid for.
The script is so well crafted, the acting and direction superb and the music is just spot on. This film is doing very well out there, and for a reason. I can't wait for their next one, which has already been made, so this one can't be that bad otherwise they wouldn't have been given the cash...
You may not love this movie as much as we did, but you're going to like it a lot, I promise. From an old time movie guy, I watched this and had hope from British film again (sorry guys!, but the UK have been having issues recently).... AS
