Craig of the Creek (2017)
An absolutely perfect beautiful love letter to growing up in the early 2000s
If you've seen it you know. An absolutely perfect beautiful love letter to growing up in the early 2000s, this show really is a masterpiece at capturing a child's imagination. It treats fun and imagination seriously with the utmost respect but also tones it down and brings it back to real life situations and morals to hit these emotions we all have home. The art is incredible the team coming off of Steven Universe I believe. The cast is incredible. Craig's family is incredible especially Terry Crews' performance as the dad. The writing and humor is incredible. I only wish I could have been a part of it. It's everything I wanted a kid's show to be as a kid and an adult. I wish I had been there to help this dream come to be. It feels like it was made just for me.
PLEASE give this a watch, support the creators, remember the best parts of being a kid again.
The Boys (2019)
Some great ideas soured with insensitive execution.
I love the ideas and concepts explored of a realistic modern superhero world. However, irreverent was the word used in the logline of The Boys and it's pretty darn accurate. If you like some seriously messed up stuff played for laughs then this is for you. One hero blackmails the sweet new girl on the team for oral sex and then becomes the comic relief like we've forgotten all about that. One jokester speedster hero repeatedly smashes a little girl's head against a wall over and over. It uses a rape scene in the most disrespectful way possible. I won't even go over the antichristian evangelist. The show attempts to have us empathize with every character but doesn't have the tact to do that without being heavy-handed and offensive. It's just trying to be as explicit as possible in a way that's still casual. It could have been great
Captain Marvel (2019)
Was a 4. Now a 1
I didn't WANT to hate it. It was bad but it didn't offend me until I thought about it and saw a couple clips again. Everything about it says that women are only worthy if they try do things men do. Manly things, like not having emotions or caution or compassion or logical thinking those are all things women do and they're very important and completely lacking in Carol Danvers.
I remember listening to a podcast with the two women who came up the this recent version of Captain Marvel and the based her on Chuck Jager and old white fighter pilot because they couldn't think of any good women role models that fit the role of the character. They said quote "You'll know she's a woman because she's a woman." This movie was doomed to fail and they picked the perfect actress for this unbelievably hateable character.
Hilda (2018)
Unbelievably good
So good!!! The first two episodes are a masterpiece and the rest do not fall short. Beautiful drawn animation, incredible characters, amazing concepts, it hits all the things it needs too and goes far beyond. I was speechless after the second episode; enchanted and impressed.
I'm probably overhyping it but I promise you won't be disappointed if you give it a watch.
Battle for Dream Island (2010)
Amazing!
What a show! Really draws you in and makes you care about the characters and jump at the twists and turns! Very well done and we'll voiced definitely worth the watch. Good to binge too...
Spongy is the best.
