Why is this film so overrated?
3 December 2009
Great all these idiots out there with their positive reviews are encouraging studios to make more super hero films. This film didn't even make sense. How did the joker mastermind so many 911 type explosive terrorist incidents?

Boiled down, this is just another brain dead action flick.

If you like stunts, hostage scenes and actors who take themselves a bit too seriously (not a poke at Ledger, just everyone else) then by all means see this film.

I mean if there are heaps of ten year olds who thought this film was good and you do too, well, do you think there's something wrong with you?

Well buddy if you do really like this film there is something wrong with you. Ultra secret cave-dwelling caped crusaders don't exist OK. You need to move on. Swallow your pride and move on.

Worth watching if you're not a brain dead moron.

This film is a crack up. If you like dark humour then check it out. All the acting performances are good, the script is tight, and it is shot and edited well.

Not sure why so many people didn't like it.. but hey some people reading this might think the transformer movies were good, what can you say? Most people are retards, especially those who didn't like this film.

Bare in mind this is a contemporary vampire film, and also with the main character being a paramedic, creates some extra interest.

I mean who doesn't like paramedic characters in films? Seriously?

Special note: The last two paragraphs were added to meet minimum content requirements for comments. Perhaps IMDb is encouraging overly self-indulgent critiques?

The Strangers (2008)

Don't see this film if you have a brain

This film has a terrible script. It actually assumes the audience is stupid. There is no sense of realism whatsoever. I don't care that its a first time director. I did not read anything about this film or know anything about it before watching it. Apparently the trailer was good, according to my gf. I honestly thought the nasty people of this film were ghosts - i mean how did they get the time to write stupid things like "killer" and "hello" etc in lipstick? How can they not find liv tyler crawling around the yard like a retard? Why does one of the serial killers walk around breathing like darth vader? How predictable is the shotgun death of the friend? This is a film that relies on the traditional horror use of sound in combination with extreme close ups of the horrific bad guys. There are a lot of reviews on the net that do not slam this movie as they should. Please take heed of my advice and do not even bother. There is no payoff, there is no insight, there is nothing new at all in this genre log cabin serial killer POS film. It's a low budget film too. I mean mainly one location. Could have been shot entirely in a studio if the studio already had a log cabin set lying around.

1984 (1984)

Utterly crap
23 December 2007
The book is fantastic, this film is not. There is no reason this film could not have embraced a futuristic technological vision of the book. Hell, total recall was released a few years later and that did a good job of it, even a clockwork orange released in the 70s did a good job of trying to make a futuristic world. The bleak German expressionistic colours, the black and white footage from the vision screens, there is no reason for this approach for when the film was made in 1984. The main character is in a white collar writing job yet he dresses like he works with oil and grease in a garage. This film decides to take a mock-communistic approach to set design, atmosphere and theme, yet the novel did not necessarily dictate a communist, worship-the-humble-worker theme itself. This book seriously needs to be adapted in a modern context as this book is more relevant today than ever before. I could not watch more than 20 minutes of this crap. The soundtrack is annoying, the lack of foresight is annoying, this film seems to have been made to deny a sense of realism or believability when that is exactly what is required to hammer the novel's messages to the viewer.

The Low Life (1995)
9/10
Funny, offbeat and believable indie film
10 August 2007
I found The Low Life to be quite a funny film. It's about that period in life around your early 20s where you have to make that transition from student to career mode. If you have ever moved from a small city or town to a big city for a career or personal goal then you should watch this film because you should be able to relate to it. I really don't feel that this is a depressing film, I think there are quite a lot of really funny, unexpected yet believable scenes to help balance it out. This film is actually quite realistic and I would not be surprised if all of the characters were based on real people known to the writers. I am quite surprised at the overall rating of 5.5 out of ten, I would totally disregard this if you had the opportunity to see the Low Life because you will definitely be going on an exotic trip of a film experience.
