Promised Land (2022)
One thing that makes me cringe
It's actually not that bad. It's not good but not bad. Definitely like a telenovela but without the over the top acting and tears lol ... The story is interesting at its best but there is one thing that makes me cringe and that is the Mateo and Daniela storyline. Promised Land could have done without it. Just in the first episode, they quickly get together, he comes to her rescue and he's taking care of her like she was a lost puppy. Every time they both come on screen, I cringe. Their storyline dialogue is badly written.
Utopia (2020)
It's not as bad
This is my first review on IMDB. I couldn't resist after reading some of the reviews on here. This American version was not as bad. You can definitely tell its an American show lol .... As for the negative reviews, I totally understand. I watched the original and the original was brilliant! Incredible cinematography, editing, acting, and the whole set up. They definitely should have continued with the original British show. As a filmmaker myself, I continued to watch this version because its intriguing and once I start something I have to finish. I hate this version of Jessica Hyde!!! She's pretty annoying, cold, and just not a likable character that you don't sympathize with her at all. In the British version, she was smart, compassionate, hardcore and very likable that you can sympathize with her and her mission. Don't even get me started on Arby. Half of it is the actor and half of it is the character they created in this version. I understand we can create different versions of stories but this one just went downhill. Overall, watch it for your amusement but definitely watch the original. So brilliant.
