One Day (2024)
Beautiful story with exceptional acting!
I haven't read the book so I went in with zero expectations. The story was relatable, funny, compelling, and heartbreaking. The characters are flawed but lovable and I desperately wanted them to be honest with one another about how they felt. In life it can be difficult and scary to be vulnerable, so I understood their hesitation and how they might be protecting their friendship for fear of losing one another if they tried a relationship and failed (jumping to conclusions here).
I did get the sense about halfway through the series that one of them might die, I kept hoping I was wrong! I thought for sure it would be Dex. When Em died I yelled at the tv in anger and disappointment. If only she woke up from a coma next episode? Even worse, was the crushing feeling of watching Dexter grieve. Leo portrays emotion so realistically, couldn't help but sob with him. Their promising future wiped out in an instant. Life is unpredictable and unforgiving.
The acting was absolutely perfect. Ambika and Leo are very talented and I look forward to seeing them in future projects!
I loved this series so much I ordered the book and watched the movie with Anne Hathaway (who I love, but the movie is terribly cast and acted and carries no raw emotion like the series).
Promising Young Woman (2020)
Surprising, loved it
The movie wasn't what I expected, but I was pleasantly surprised. One of the best movies I have seen in a long time with several plot twists. It highlights an important subject matter that is heartbreaking and uncomfortable but delivers it colorfully. I highly recommend this film. Hopefully more movies focusing on this subject matter will continue to bring attention to these horrific events so we can keep the conversation going.
Housesitter (1992)
Ridiculously silly and over the top
I have loved this movie since it came out in the 90s! One of my all time favorites. The story line is outrageous but Steve and Goldie have such amazing comedic timing. Their acting is so good it really is almost conceivable that something like this could happen (not possible in this digital age). If you want a good laugh check it out!
The Last Thing He Wanted (2020)
What did I just watch?
Quality acting. Could have been great. Terrible plot that literally went in circles. It was like 10 dead end stories crammed into one movie.
Harriet (2019)
Triumph
Harriet is a heart breaking story about bravery. It was well acted and based on interviews, it was depicted with less violence so that parents could bring their children and perhaps start that discussion about history. It's rated PG13. It was dramatic and emotionally charged. I enjoyed it and would highly recommend.
You Were Never Really Here (2017)
Revenge never tasted so sweet
Can't imagine anything as horrific a fate as those victims who find themselves in the grips of human traffickers. Human traffickers are the most evil of sorts in this sometimes cruel world, so watching Joaquin hand down some vengeance brought me great satisfaction. I only wish all human traffickers faced the same fate. As no one is more deserving. The directing was excellent and as always, Joaquin portrayed a pained man with a checkered past beautifully.
Us (2019)
Awful
Loved Peele's first movie. This new debut, "Us" was hyped.. "best movie of the year". Uh, no. It started out entertaining and took a deep dive into unwatchable. I would have walked out if I wasn't with friends. Half way through I didn't care how it ended because it was so dumb. By the time it was over I could only shake my head, how disappointing. Would never walk again & don't recommend. Unless you like movies that go no where.
The White Orchid (2018)
Don't bother
Poor acting, boring script that lead no where. Do not recommend.
Life Itself (2018)
Touching story
About life's lowest of lows & highest of highs. It made me laugh, cry & think. It was beautifully acted & written. It wasn't a happy movie, but there is an important message for viewers to hear.
Home for the Holidays (1995)
A favorite holiday film!
This has become a classic for me, i watch it year after year around the Holiday season. It is a deep movie, with love, laughs & family drama. It makes me think of my family, gives me that feeling of "home". It may hit too close to home for those that have unhappy family ties, mine are close and we all get along so this doesn't ring true for me. Regardless, it's a great film!
Seven in Heaven (2018)
Silly, nonsense
It wasn't a horror movie. It started out good, but nose dived quickly. The acting was decent but the story line was flawed & childish & ultimately went no where. I understand what they meant to portray but it was boring & pointless. Maybe good for kids & teenagers, not for adults.
Noah (2014)
How does Director Darren Aronofsky, get famous actors?!
I ask because his films do nothing but disappoint! Literally all of them. I am always excited for the promise or hype of his films but then they are pure garbage about nothing! Don't waste your time. I couldn't even finish this.
You've been warned.
The Fountain (2006)
Pointless
I didn't enjoy or appreciate anything about this movie. I saw it a few times many years ago, hated it, vowed never to watch again & now realize through IMBd that I hate all of the writers films.
Mother! (2017)
I hated everything about this film, but the acting
To be fair, I've never enjoyed any of Director, Darren Aronofsky, films. I gave this movie a chance given the actors in the film, I had no idea who the director was. Now I am 100% certain I hate his style & wont make that mistake again. If you like dark, demented, narcissistic, pointless garbage... watch this & his other films. Literally worst director ever.
