The Droving (2020)
Beautiful indie film
I watched the director's previous film Hex which I really enjoyed so I thought I'd give this one a shot and I'm glad I did. It's very well crafted from a filmmaker perspective. The score and camera work is really well done and having the natural back drop really takes your breath away. It's a good story from start to finish and didn't drag at all, which can be an issue with indies.
Sweet Sunshine (2020)
Feel good faith-based film
Don't call it a Hallmark film because it has a level of grit that is interwoven into the story very tastefully. I'm not a huge fan of country but must admit I really enjoyed the music and really felt good about the message of the film!
Confessions of a Producer (2020)
An Indie that beats to its own drum
It was hard to pinpoint what genre this film was but the blend seemed to work. I was entertained and really impressed with the story and how original it was.
The Back Pages (2017)
A fresh series
I've enjoyed this web series so far. I'm currently on episode 4. It's very reminiscent of Black Mirror. I think some people will like it and others will not but I enjoyed it and will keep watching. Would be neat to see this as a full-blown series.
Into the Void (2019)
Timely Apocalyptic zombie movie
A zombie love story is quite rare but this film pulls it off well. This film pays homage to the zombie flicks before it but also ads its own unique twist to the genre. I really enjoyed the message of the film and it's definitely something we need right now!
Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk (2017)
Twisted coming of age
This is a really intriguing story about a teenager trying to figure it out. Trying to figure out his sexuality as what he knows so deeply goes against his religion. These types of stories are eye-opening, especially if you've never lived anything like this. This film is real, and we need more real films.
The Jitterbugs: Pioneers of the Jit (2014)
Honest compelling doc
I loved the authenticity in this doc, especially from the interviewees. My favorite part were the great dance sequences that were wonderful to watch. Looking forward to the next film from this filmmaker!
Friends, Foes & Fireworks (2018)
Shot in one day... Wow
So, I guess this film was shot in one day? As a Fimmaker myself, that is pretty incredible. Not to mention that the film actually came out pretty well done. I gotta say that's pretty impressive. The performances and relationships between the characters were pretty well done and overall I really enjoyed this film. Thanks!
The Hand Bag (2020)
Intense and Suspenseful
I was hooked on this one from the beginning. The movie is all about revenge and it keeps you guessing what is going to happen next. This some cool twists and overall it's pretty well acted. Worth the watch.
My Stretch of Texas Ground (2019)
An intriguing concept
This is an intriguing concept about a middle eastern terrorist that infiltrates American soil, with the intent to kidnap and murder a Texas Senator. The only thing standing in his way is a local Texas Sheriff. If that sounds like Walker Texas Ranger well... that's because it's just like Walker Texas Ranger. So, if you're a fan of the show, give this one a shot. The plot is pretty straightforward and most of the characters and relationships stay pretty standard, so you pretty much know what you're getting from the start but there's a good amount of tension, guns, and hot pursuits that keep this one entertaining. Some of the acting doesn't always hit the mark but the main actor does a very good job. Thanks for the watch!
The Paraseekers: Corrado Farms (2018)
paranormal spookiness
I'll admit I'm a bit of a sucker for indie paranormal movies so I thought I'd enjoy this and I did. There's nothing that feels fancy or overdone but surprisingly a very practical story. It's done in that cool doc style that always used to get me when I was a kid (confession still does). If you're looking for a good low budget scare check it out.
The Best Laid Plans (2019)
What would you do for the money?
This film asks a great question, what would you do for the money? It's not a super original question but the film does a unique job of answering the question and delivers a fun, comical film that doesn't feel derivative in any sense. I had a fun laugh with the characters and was quite entertained throughout. Worth the watch!
Shovel and Run (2018)
Fun, clever and memorable.
This short throws you write into the action and asks what would you do if you hit somebody while you were driving. It also draws into question the moral dilemma, what would you do if you knew you could get away with it. It's really neat watching the short but perhaps even better talking about it with somebody afterwards. It's fun, clever and memorable.
Trouble Is My Business (2018)
A memorable crime noir
I really enjoyed this film. The reviews seem quite polarizing but I guess I'm on the favorable side. It was surprisingly funny and did a great job of paying homage to the genre but also making it it's own and adding to it. A solid indie noir.
All I Want (2017)
Real and relatable
This movie felt so real and relatable. This movie doesn't tackle huge issues or have special effects and explosions but instead portrays real relationships with flawed people. I found it very refreshing and really enjoyed going on the journey with the main characters. If you're looking for an indie about relationships and the difficulties of them check it out!
On the Corner of Ego and Desire (2019)
A must watch for any indie filmmaker
As a filmmaker myself and fan of Indie Film Hustle I was quite excited for this film and it did not disappoint. This film tells the other story of indie filmmaking... The real story. It shows the struggles, the highs, the lows and as a filmmaker that has been though it, this film definitely captures that life and headspace. A must watch for any indie filmmaker but also a great time for anybody just looking for a fun film.
Huckleberry (2018)
courageous and heartfelt
This movie takes a lot of chances and they absolutely pay off. It's centered around teenagers with all of their heartbreak, angst, and emotion on display. It felt raw. It felt real. And it felt beautiful. The performances are quite wonderful throughout and it reminded me so much of my small town up bringing.
Perfect Feet (2019)
I'll never look at feet the same
I'll tell you what, I'm never going to take my feet for granted again. This doc will make you look at a commonly underappreciated body part totally different. I learned quite a bit but also wasn't bored at all throughout. If you're looking for a quirky, fun but informative doc check it out!
Shady White (2019)
A fun ride!
Get ready for a rollercoaster of a ride with a new twist every time you think you have the film figured out. This is a wonderful indie thriller that not only keeps you full of suspense but also interjects humor at the right times. Would recommend!
The Edict (2017)
Fun 70's indie horror
This film channels a lot of the 70's horror style and keeps things at a good pace, not lagging at all throughout. If you like indies about demons, people being possessed and deep psychological dives you should check this one out!
She Walks the Woods (2019)
Found footage gem
This is a wonderful found footage horror that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It does a great job of not trying to do too much and lets you stay with the characters. The tension will build throughout and keep you guessing!
The Generator (2017)
Fun sci-fi flick
It's hard to pull off a low budget sci-fi but The Generator does just that. I was surprised by how well done this film was. The world is very immersive and the cinematography is visually pleasing. Well done!
Little Woods (2018)
An enjoyable ride
I really enjoyed this movie. It's well acted and there's a nice level of tension in most scenes. It's a little different than the trailer would sell you on so I would advise going into it blind. This film will open your eyes up to how certain people are forced to live. Forsure worth the watch
29 to Life (2018)
Fun goofball comedy
This is an enjoyable comedy about a guy who screws everything up. It's comedic but surprisingly has a lot of heart. There's a nice inspirational through line and feel good films... Well, they make you feel good. Worth the watch!
Carving a Life (2017)
Wonderful feel good film
This is one of those Hallmark films that just makes you feel good. It gives you the heart warming feeling that love can conquer all, which is something I think we all need a bit of from time to time. It's really well filmed with a nice soundtrack.
