Sugar (2024)
I liked it, until I didn't - Episode 6,7,8
It should have stayed a dark detective series. Without the pieces of horror. The reaching for the extra terrestrial beings being okay, comes and goes with me. I think Sugar is better being pure human. The folding in of the old movies makes sense for a suave smart detective. Not so much for an alien. Although if there is a season two, that might be explained. Starting at episode 6 it started to spiral into unenjoyable. Even with Sugar's charm, it became too nonsensical to like watching it. And the blowing away of aliens for political reasons? I want to say that's too far fetched, but I do pay attention to today's politcal environment.
Rancho Deluxe (1975)
Worth it just to see young Jimmy Buffett rocking it
The plot is okay, but not Oscar riveting for sure. 1970's sex scenes. ( ooo look we can show breasts and make noise, just like the real thing). Gratuitous and lost its appeal in many future great movies. Thank goodness.
Read the reviews that fawned over Slim Pickens. (Who I think is overall cool. ). His role was okay, but I didn't see that as much of a contribution to the enjoyment of the movie. Young Jeff Bridges, Sam Waterson, so sexy, and gorgeous Elizabeth Ashley. That's the appeal for me. The Jeff and Sam characters relationship to their parents would have been nice to see broaden. And of course the for mentioned Jimmy Buffett, way before most of world knew "they would want to be wasting away in Margaritaville."
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 (2023)
Don't overthink it.
It could have been better if done earlier to include Michael Constantine. But life and movie making has its own ideas. But it still has his spirit of windex and Greek being the source of all words. The scenery is lovely. Yes, the script is a bit laborious. But the scenery, as already mentioned, makes up for that. Why has it taken so long for the family to go back to Greece? Motherlands were left for a reason I guess. They become romantic as time goes on. Hardships get softened by the distance of years. It's nice to see a film like this. Family keeps growing in this film. " I am surprised, but never surprised".
Road House (2024)
It's not your Father's Road House
It's not your Father's Road House. But it can't be. Patrick Swayze, God Rest His Soul is gone, Sam Elliott, so cool, is doing other things. Hanging out with his kids and Katherine Ross. Red is running security for Elvis's band in heaven. "I.m hoping you are different, Maybe it will get better" "What are you doing with that bat". So my husband, the ultimate critic on remake movie's is still watching after 44 minutes. The Key West scenery is a nice offset to the violence and trash talking. I do miss Ben Gazzara as the bad guy. He had a bit more, "je ne sais crois to him". You might not mind having coffee with him before Dalton bet the crap out of him.
Ricky Stanicky (2024)
Stanicky Stinkeroo
Waste of time. Wanted to watch because of Zack Efron, but too hard to endure.
The premise might have worked with a better early development. But grown men, deceiving their wives. Smart loving women.
Just didn't go down far enough for me to swallow. Plus leave your wife before your first born's baby shower? Then I'm supposed to care about you and your fake friend dilemma?
John Cena, usually easy to watch was a problem for me this go round. Realize there was his character that was supposed to be a low life. But still it shouldn't have been so hard to endure.
Not sure what could have helped this endeavor.
Masters of the Air: Part Seven (2024)
Kept pace with story
Maybe the story wasn't about an individual, that war isn't about an individual. But a collection of individuals having the combined courage to continue to band together to face the horror of WW II. The return of the flyers that escaped from France didn't get much of a story. But we knew they made it. And reference to protect the resistance fighters by not returning them to flights was made. Rosie's Riverters buzzing the tower, find joy when you can among the horror of war. Congratulations Rosie, but how did those other men continue to keep going up on missions. The POWS, Does anybody in the 60's remember getting a kit to build your own radio? And lastly, Crosby ?? .........
Candleshoe (1977)
Delightful!
Jodie Foster's early star presence. Her talent was so telling. Unexpected find while searching the Disney plus archives. David Niven and Helen Hayes at their regal English best.
Engaging and interesting. Lovely English countryside. English thugs. Blimy what more can you ask for. Villains you want to see lose. Orphan children you are rooting for. Suspense but not upsetting. Lovely English manor home that needs saving. Thanks to the wits of children and a loyal servant.
Can the Manor be saved in time? Will the children keep their home? Has the real grandchild returned? A story of searching and belonging.
"And don't come back". But you will want to.
The Ghosts of Buxley Hall (1980)
It's Vintage Disney! Enjoy the trip.
Vintage Disney plot. Pleasant time. No violence or foul language. No politics. Plus Monte Markham for goodness sake. And the actor from McHales Navy using the Italian accent. A great trip down memory lane. The ghosts are delighted. It's Disney, remember. Classic actors
Victor French. Dick O'Neill. Remember when academics were being made to be coed. Seems slight, but there was a time. The young lady cadet is memorable. Poise. She went on to work on probably one of your favorite soaps.
Love Bettina the Ghost. Plotting to give the general his comeuppance for his lack of empathy. Watching a Ghost go through a door was a cinematic accomplishment at one time. Simpler times. Not necessarily better, but still good, and should be respected. Thank you Disney Plus for letting me enjoy some good memories.
Carrot Cake Murder: A Hannah Swensen Mystery (2023)
Lost the Murder She Baked vibe and fun
Too bad it's so changed. Miss Andrea and Bill. Hannah and Mike are not a match. Norman and Hannah and maybe Mike makes for a good movie. Barbara Nivens is fine. But can be too much. Especially since there is no longer any delightful Andrea to offset the Mother annoyance. Hannah is no longer an everyone girl. She's too defined. And Cameron Is the same. Not all that enjoyable to watch. Murder She Baked series had a joy to it. Now it's labored and has no point. I'm a Joanne Fluke fan of the Hannah Swenson series but this rendition of her books are hard to take. I recorded and tried to watch it all. But don't think I'll make it.
The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two (2020)
Just go with it - Enjoy a different view of Santa Traditions.
Clunky at times: but it has its moments. And watching Kurt Russell as Santa again is worth any lapses in plot. In CC3 please let him do another Elvis song.
Holiday Baking Championship (2014)
2020 season I can't watch
Where is Lorraine? Where are comfortable friendly gentle contestants?
Not everything needs to be a frenzy especially right now.
