One of the best (funniest) animations I've seen in years!
29 September 2012
I went to see Hotel Transylvania last night in a small group of adults aged 24-30 and I LMAO as did the others. The theater was packed with little children who mostly laughed at not really funny parts and adults who laughed when the children were quite silent. The story is about Count Dracule trying to raise his only child safe and sound away from terrifying humans and invites all the monsters to his hotel to relax and celebrate his very young daughter's 118th birthday which is accompanied by a surprise visitor!

This is a really funny movie with a simple predictable story line and tons of characters that you will love. My favorites were the zombies who were the hotel staff and it took them forever to finish a task. I recommend this movie to anyone who like monsters ( so afraid of a little boy licking ice-cream)and want to have a good laugh and take a break from Disney.

Do not recommend it to somebody who didn't watch it 20 years ago!

Warning: Spoilers
I have always been a fantasy genre hardcore fan since I was a child. Whether it is a book or a movie, I have always given it a try and guess what! I have enjoyed most of them but not this one, sorry fans! Having heard all the praise and seen the high ratings and recommendations, I finally rented it and finished the chore of watching it a couple of hours ago. I almost never stop watching a movie, no matter how awful it is and kept watching this one because I was looking for something more, something close to its 8.1 rating (which should have 1.8!). I understand many people who still love it, have memories and nostalgic childhood feelings for it but I still believe there were more 80s movies in fantasy genre which had better story, better acting, better dialogues and better visual effects!!! This film is about a girl named Buttercup (seriously?) who is deeply in love with a Westly! farm boy (which could have been much better if their love was pictured more than " as you wish" means "I love you" and a kiss!). Then the boy is gone and the girl is becoming the princess bride by getting engaged to an evil prince who plans to kill her so put the blame on enemy and people get mad because they love their buttercup (again why do they love her? do they personally know her? was she specially kind to them? or maybe because their daughters were saved by this marriage) and attack the land of enemy. There are some zorro-ish sword fight in between, a very not funny kidnapper and some of the worst and most nonsense dialogues I have ever heard in a movie. Oh, I forgot the rat which was like one of those Halloween costumes that kids wear. I'm sure they acted like a better rat if they were put on their all fours and auditioned for the part! Anyway, I do not recommend it to any one who is impressed by all the love for this film. Those who love it will always love it so they'd better watch it together but do not include their kids or adults who they think will certainly love it. No please don't do that to them. I confess I wanted to express my views on the message board but i knew I'd be murdered so I wrote my review and gave it 5 stars (though it deserves much less) because I myself am a very nostalgic person and live with my memories so 5 stars to all those who have kept this movie alive but gonna show mercy on the others!

How to lose an idea in 107 minutes
30 December 2011
OK, first of all let me tell you that I'm a 28-year-old Iranian woman who has left the country just a few months ago so actually my whole life has been spent in that system.

When I saw the trailer and awards, I thought it might be a good movie so last night I watched it with positive expectations but as the time passed by, it all turned to deep disappointment. I felt my time was wasted and the director has grabbed a good idea (personal experience of friends as she says) and made worth of nothing out of it. I understand making a movie about one country in another land can be difficult, especially when you have to use a cast who were immigrants' children and can't speak their mother-tongue fluently; but it could have been tolerable if you had a screen play as good as the main idea and the characters were believable.

Not even one line of dialogue in this movie made sense. it was a very poor imitation of everyday slang in the society and they were totally irrelevant. The plot lacked harmony and it was unreal. The characters' reactions to circumstances were like a very bad joke, specially Mehran and his father; I don't know which planet they were from!! People like Mehran and his way of life don't invite their extremist superior to a family party were women are not covered. And his father in the beginning clearly opposes the religious system and then drinks tea with a man who is insulting his daughter( thanks to Mehran) and in the ends is saying prayers next to his troubled son.

Also most of the erotic scenes and language were unnecessary and could simply be avoided but in the end, it felt like that was the only reason this movie was made. Just to break the taboos, grab a good idea, add some nudity and language, write a few irrational lines which were just in farsi but had nothing to do with Iranian culture, shoot the film and win some awards because the western society does not know about Iranian people and their real way of life.

Iranians can't like this film because it is not like life in Iran and they easily find plot holes in every scene; the western viewers like this film because they think that's how life is in reality, they don't see the problems in the film and enjoy two hot lesbian girls making out with each other and almost every man in this movie!

It's Like Nothing You've Ever Seen
10 December 2011
Just got home after watching HUGO, and boy, What a film! I don't think there are many films that have all the qualities of a masterpiece and yet you can enjoy it with the whole family and Hugo stands on top of any movie which may be (if ever possible) comparable. In my eyes, Hugo is Scorsese himself who is paying tribute to someone who has inspired many visionary filmmakers even after his life. This is a film that you remain in your seat and witness a mystery being unfold in the most artistic way where art, visual effects, music and 3D technology are serving the film, unlike most of the never ending so called 3D flicks which are made just to be high-tech and suffer lack of story and good directing. The acting is pretty good, Chloe Grace Mortez is as adorable as ever and Sacha Baron Cohen can always make you laugh no matter how serious he tries to look. Scorsese himself pops up in a short scene for a second just to remind us who actually stands behind the camera. I'm not a great fan of him, though loved Shutter Island and the Departed, but this one is just so different. I totally recommend it to anyone with any taste in movies.

The best Iranian movie
1 April 2011
What makes this film the best I've ever seen in Iran? Is this the story or is this the directing? Maybe it's the acting, or perhaps the editing. I believe this movie has them all. For many years Iranian filmmakers who gained international success were the ones who enjoyed showing a very dark and uncivilized picture of Iran but Asghar Farhady has proved that one can be a successful filmmaker and yet show a more realistic picture of this land and average or working class Iranian families. The story is believable and easy to understand because the characters and situations are something that each one of us have experienced or witnessed sometime in our lives. The actors even the little girl are marvelous, you can feel their emotions and understand their motives every second of the movie and the editing is just superb. You don't see such a great movie everyday, so if you love movies and enjoy movies from all over the world, don't miss the chance to watch it.

True Porn!
23 October 2010
Well I'm a huge fan of fantasy genre and vampire stories actually tops the list. Don't get me wrong, Twilight has a place at its bottom but it goes down along with True Blood which I rather call True Porn! Until now I've only watched the three first episodes and though it's disgusted me from the very first minutes, I've continued watching it so that it may reach to a point which makes it more interesting. I admit it's like nothing I've watched before but that doesn't mean it's good stuff. I know many would hate and tease me, and I'm aware of all the positive reviews and awards which actually confuses me. The creators of this movie seem sick perverts whose only focus has been on strong sexual scenes which could have been avoided or shown a bit milder! I believe certain movies need these kinda stuff but when more than half the time of an episode is only based on it, you get sick! So that's my conclusion, if you're a fan of dirty vamps and filthy mortals who have nothing to do but to spend the whole time next to another pervert, go for it!

The fantastic adventure of my childhood
17 May 2007
When I was a little girl, my best day was when my parents took me to the theatres to watch Unico for one more time or our national television showed it. I don't know what it was maybe pure magic but the movie had very strong influence on me or even my parents that lived through us to the day. A little lovely creature with a horn that care about others and when he gets back what he has given from his friends he becomes powerful in the form of the most magnificent creature I have ever seen.A few days ago when I saw this movie after 15 years the same feelings of my childhood returned to me: Love, forgiveness, friendship, happiness, excitement, and a bit of sadness in the end. I keep this DVD as a treasure though not of very good quality because Unico is my all time favourite animation.
