Lucky Hank (2023)
Accurate
Russo's Straight Man is a fabulous novel. This is a smart update for 2023. Is Lily less likeable? Maybe. But her career decisions feel much more real. And anyone affiliated with a university has to see this show as a compelling picture of what's actually happening on campuses: faculty aren't pushing agendas. They are surrounded by financial cuts and bureaucratic crap-and they are just trying to keep their jobs and sanity.
Apparently I need several hundred more letters, so I'll add this as an English professor at a cash-strapped institution: every academic needs to watch this show. I love The Chair for what it is, but Lucky Hank is seriously spot on.
The Sandman (2022)
Over "woke" being the only criticism for all shows on here. Zzzzzz.
When did "woke" become the only source of criticism for a well acted, beautifully shot show wherein some characters are lgbtq+? I liked it a lot. But it also made me want Good Omens to return asap! Do better/be more specific, negative user reviews.
Terrifier (2016)
Still terrified.
I watched this slasher one afternoon 3 years ago. I'm still haunted by it. Was it "good"? Not really. But the title 100% fits.
Sweet Magnolias (2020)
Inconsistent
Pick a genre. Pick character development. Pick cohesion. I wasted 3 days on one cheesy narrative, only for the show to change abruptly to another.
Sweet/Vicious (2016)
Veronica Mars 2.0
In the vein of Veronica Mars-no idea why it does not appear as a related show.
She's the One (1996)
Tom Petty
The soundtrack is beautiful. The film is solid but not amazing. Worth an afternoon on a free weekend. But the soundtrack. Tom Petty is/was everything: Walls. Angel Dream. Cover of Changed the Locks.
