The Sounds (2020)
Would have given it an 8... but...
The story line is a decent one. The locations are fantastic. The acting was decent... except for this: The actors portraying both Maggie and Tom seem to be terribly misplaced in these roles. There is just something about them both that seems so phony. For Maggie it almost sounds like canned speech that was dubbed in, and not realistic in any way. For Tom, well, I've seen this actor in another performance, and I disliked his acting in it as well. He needs to find another job. I still have two episodes to view. I sincerely hope they both wind up with the short end of the stick. I seriously doubt I'll ever watch another performance by either of these two.
Atlantic Crossing (2020)
I say 'so what' to the naysayers.
Beautifully filmed. Historical movies try to cram 5-10 years into a 90-minute movie. They are all sensationalized. Many historical books are filled with icing covering half-baked cakes. How many people take the Bible at it's word? Humbug. This Masterpiece depiction at least gave six hours to the story instead of a measly ninety minutes. Of course there are likely to be some mischaracterizations and misrepresentations. After all, no one knows the entire truth of the story. Just as there is a zero percent chance that the Bible story is true to fact. It ain't.
I say humbug to the historical snobs. Folks will gain a far better knowledge of the Princess's story than they would by watching any stupid reality show on TV. Get over yourselves and give Masterpiece their due for a lovely production. And to all who watch this story, if you have further interest in learning some more of the truth of the story, along with what I'm sure will be more icing covering a half-baked cake, do some further reading and studying.
Halifax: Retribution (2020)
Ugh... the music
It's watchable. I like the actors, but the script was written with so many stupid things that normal police/people wouldn't do. I.e. Halifax seeing that there's something/someone in the workshop. She stupidly goes out to said workshop in the dark with no weapon, no flashlight, no backup. The normal person simply would not do that. To me, the absolute worst part of the show was the very annoying, and atrocious soundtrack. It's simply unbearable.
The Widow (2019)
With just a little more thought...
With just a little more thought this could have been far better. I thought the main character, Georgia, could have been played by a far better fitting actor. I just didn't care for her style. And a lot more realism could have been easily done had the makeup artist thought far enough ahead to realize that a characters makeup simply can't look exactly the same throughout the entire series. Not once was the makeup ever smudged, smeared, dirty, changed in any way no matter the time, the place, the scene, the country. Just impossible to believe. But, I guess, to a dumbed down audience little reality issues like this may not matter any more. Well, the do to me.
Sorelle (2017)
Tears, tears, and more soppy tears
Is it just me, or do the Italians have an intrinsic disability to come up with good plots? Nothing seems natural. Everything comes across like it's being read from a script with no feeling... except the tears, tears, and more soppy tears. I just. Painfully, finished part 2. Is it really going anywhere? Or is the whole idea of the plot to make everyone wish they'd never started watching it to begin with. Italy is in bad need of some good writers.
Update: I had to see how it ended. And it ended as I thought. I had to constantly hop scotch through the last two episodes just to be able to get to the ending. I couldn't have stood to watch every minute. It was just curiosity that got me to the end. Please don't waste your time with this one. It's the soppiest, most depressing, tear-filled drama I've ever watched.
Dicte (2013)
Hard to watch... but I couldn't stop
Need I say more? Dicte drove me crazy. Are all Scandinavian ladies like her??? Like I said... hard to watch... but I couldn't stop.
Ride the Thunder (2015)
Zero stars
This movie is way too politically biased. The acting is cheesy at best. I couldn't get past the 45 minute mark. The whole thing sounds like a traveling evangelist show. Bad. Bad. Bad.
