Hero at Large (1980)
"Hero at Large" textbook example of how to make a more personal & real superhero movie.
This movie, without the aid of CGI, or extravagant special effects, portrays the spirit and humanity of a superhero movie, in a more real fashion than most of the current superhero movies out today. John Ritter plays the ultimate underdog hero and Anne Archer is the perfect compliment to understanding, his honest and simple character, that cares more about others than himself. In the early years of the Marvel, superhero franchises, several of the movies like Iron Man, Captain America & Ant-man shared this humanity, were you really cared about the character and what they wanted to accomplish with their powers. John Ritter's character has all of these characteristics without the aid any extra ordinary skills or powers. That's what makes this story so endearing after all these years. Hero at Large holds up so well and is still very entertaining even in 2024. The wonderful Patrick Williams score and themes really make the stories seem extraordinary and cool Highly recommended, particularly to watch the chemistry between (the late great) John Ritter and the beautiful Anne Archer.
Nefarious (2023)
Scary Movie with an Intense & Important Message
Great movie with an intense message. Sean, Patrick Flannery's performance is award worthy, however, because of the (true) Christian message of fallen morality in our world, he will probably never get the recognition he deserves for playing this complex character. This film brings moral questions to the front and a creates opportunities for important discussions between people of faith, and those people that do not have faith. Anyone that scoffs at the true meaning in this movie, the Bible or belief in God, are just proving the point Nefarious was making throughout. Our world needs positive faith in God and sadly, many will never seek or understand that. Evil is stronger than ever in our fallen world. Jesus Christ, (the carpenter) is the only way for redemption.
Forgiven (2016)
Forgiven explores what the word really means
There are several types of people that will watch a Christian movie like "Forgiven", a person like me that enjoys all types and genres of movies, but also is compelled to watch Christian movies and explore things like redemption and faith. These movies, tell stories in a modern and every day setting and relate to my heart and soul, and help to reinforce my belief in God. The second type of person that would enjoy this movie is someone that is interested in Faith, the principles of the Bible, and the words of Jesus, and explore them in a motion picture presentation. This is very important as an move it like this can deliver a powerful message in an entertaining way. The third type of person, is usually a non-believer, looking for reasons, and ways to scoff at faith, religion & the unseen miracles of God that they don't understand. They will criticize production design, acting, and even costumes, and make up in an effort to tear these types of movies down. What they're really saying is that they are uncomfortable, giving their heart to a story of faith. This movie expertly shows the transformation of exactly this type of person. I hope that everyone that sees this film can see the transformation that can take place in any type of person. It is the textbook definition of. "Forgiven".
The Chosen (2017)
The Chosen is Life-Changing
Watching "The Chosen" has been such a blessing in my life. The story of how Jesus met & chose his disciples is life-changing. It's the best series I've ever watched and it makes me a better person. The production, writing, sets, costumes & acting are all top notch in every way. The creator & director of "The Chosen" Dallas Jenkins, has created a unique and insightful series with characters that connect you to each disciple and the personality traits they might have had. It has helped me understand the story of Jesus through their eyes. This is not just for people of faith. It is a story that can relate & entertain anyone, and I believe it will change many lives. Now on Netflix & always free on The Chisen App or YouTube.
