At World's End: The Masked Men (2020)
The big issue with this series.
This series has a conundrum of recurring issues that, when you think they are about to go past them, the series goes back to it in no time.
The big issue being Justin becoming alone again. This time, it was with an anti-climatic conflict. Disappointing.
The things that save this episode from being a complete disaster are the acting and few effects, but overall, this series keeps running into its same problems all over again every time it tries to find something to improve and shake things up.
At World's End: PROTOCAL OUTLINE (2020)
A major improvement!
Most of the episode is very well executed. Very convincing acting, decent effects, and some amazing shots really make up a lot of this episode.
My only issue with it was the ending. While Rebecca's death was very well acting and was scarily convincing, it felt too soon and unearned, and it's better to worry about the ending being normal formula that the series suffers from.
At World's End: Trust (2020)
A nice change of formula.
By introducing a new character named Rebecca, there is more to the show than ever before. There's finally more characters and more depth, and it heightens the show a lot more.
At World's End: Shifting Sands (2020)
Steadily Solid Direction
With a bigger scale yet confined to a small area, the tense atmosphere of the episode works tremendously. However, it's very uneventful, only teasing what the next episode is bound to have.
Sunset Paradise (2021)
Disappointed.
The pilot to this show had the potential to be something special, and it just... wasn't. A few models and bits of animation felt so lazy and, especially comparing to Meta Runner (which is superior in pretty much every way), the characters and the way they interact felt either off or uninteresting.
At World's End: A New World (2020)
A better outlook of the series?
It's become abundantly clear that there's been a somewhat higher budget going into this season. As a result, things look cooler, cleaner, and in some instance, scarier.
There's a new hope that this series will start going in a better direction and ends up getting better overall as a result. This episode promises that and I hope it delivers.
At World's End (2019)
It's got its moments, and it's impressive for something made by 1 guy.
The mini-series was done impressively with the little budget it had. The acting from Angus is fantastic and really makes some sequences feel far more believable. If anyone like him was in here but with even a little less acting quality, this series would probably knock itself down a star or 2 from it alone. He carries this show so much.
Season 2 improves on a lot, only to fall back on the things that used to be neat but have dragged this series down severely, which knocked this show down a star.
That being said, the show does pull off things well, at least in the 2nd half of the first season. There's a somewhat basic formula that gets slightly shaken up, sometimes for better and other times for worse, but in the end, its a mostly satisfying indie minishow that might not disappoint most people.
At World's End: The Long Road Home (2019)
I felt lost most of the time.
The ending was leading to something seemingly big, and while it did lead up to something in the conclusion, it didn't feel half as satisfying as it could've been. Maybe it was the lack of budget, but to me, it didn't feel half as satisfying of a conclusion as it should've. It just felt like a weird way to end the season off. It did emphasize effects a little more, though, so that's a plus.
At World's End: Stalker (2019)
Best episode in the season.
The opening where Justin gets shot at, though it doesn't look like much, is carried so heavily by the natural just unfitting landscapes and Angus's acting that you can look past that, and it feels urgent and believable. The series' first sense of major urgency is on a high note and that alone, as well as the execution of everything else, makes this easily the best episode in the season.
At World's End: Stillness (2019)
Now this is an episode I can get behind.
Though the usual formula is shown here, it's done in a different way and takes advantage of it. Having more wide shots that give you a sense of how big the explored world is and having a mildly (unintentionally?) disturbing sense of calmness and happiness that the episode is trying to convey is honestly somewhat haunting. Heavy improvement over the previous episodes.
At World's End: The Fall (2019)
Back to the status quo, and a major fall from the last episode.
We've returned to what we're used to, which is somewhat disappointing.
Angus' verbal way of directing things is a unique style, but without anything happening, you just have to believe it and go. Sure, you can say its the best with what he had, and fair enough, but it's not the best way to forever carry a story that's supposed to be a horror story.
At World's End: Tomb (2019)
Trend starting to end?
Though it feels like not much has happened again, this series seems to be finally finding its footing. With finally having more places to go, a seemingly higher emphasis on effects, and other actors to help carry Angus even further, I feel a little bit hopeful again.
Omw to watch Episode 5 now, hopefully it doesn't disappoint.
At World's End: Unease (2019)
A problematic trend has come to this series.
3 episodes in, and still not much has happened. I appreciate the fact that Angus is doing the best he can with what he had at the time, but it's worrying to me that this little-activity-all-dialogue buildup feels a little unsatisfying.
At World's End: Lingering Days (2019)
Similar issues as last episode.
Not much goes on, again. But the solid acting and the buildup of the universe carries this a bit more, and the fact that anything potentially major (ok, maybe a bit exaggerating) that shows how the world works is helpful.
Well executed, but still very slow.
At World's End: Post-Existence (2019)
Solid start, though it has some issues.
Not much goes on. The acting is solid enough (Angus has a pretty good performance and is a good actor for what he can do), but not much happens. It feels like a massive exposition dump for the most part, but it gets the job done.
Meta Runner (2018)
Great Series, Great Ideas, Great Execution, Not Enough Polish (for the most part)
Meta Runner is an amazing series that we didn't deserve. It's got an amazing series with great comedy, great characters, and a well done story to back it all up, however... it's animation has some lighting/movement problems at some points. This is most noticeable after Episode 3 of Season 1 where the animation noticeably went downhill a little. Aside from that, it's a great series made by talented people and I love to tune in every Thursday to see what comes next. Keep up the good work, Glitch Productions.
