I don't recommend using this movie to introduce someone to the Sherlockian universe, because this movie is not at all how any other Sherlock Holmes is. If the person you show it to reads the books or watches other movies/tv shows they will be really confused. Not like I wasn't confused and I watched a lot of other ones.
It is basically Sherlock Holmes au fanfiction.
I hated that on the door of the flat it says 221 and not 221B. That made me really mad. Also no Mrs Hudson. Being the Mrs Hudson fan that I am I was really disappointed.
I don't understand why they had to make Holmes a lady's man. He drank way too much. If Holmes drinks anything usually it's just one glass. Not five bottles. He sleeps with I think four woman. When I was watching I was thinking, "Isn't Sherlock married to his work? (Aka John Watson)" (Even though this movie came out in 2002 and Sherlock didn't come out until 2010) The last woman made no sense to be there. I could of went for it more if she was Irene Adler.
Watson starts off as a jerk which I didn't like. Later on he's fine. I think I might of liked it more if Holmes wasn't there and it was just him.
Mycroft is crippled?! I was confused. I prefered the Mycroft that was with Jeremy Brett and I didn't even really like that one.
Lestrade was ok, I think. I mean he didn't have that big of a role. I usually forget that Lestrade was even there when I watch any Sherlock Holmes. (I only remember him with Jeremy Brett and Benedict Cumberbatch.)
Now onto Moriarty. I absolutely loved him in this movie. Vincent D'Onofrio did an amazing job portraying the role. It was kinda cool that they made him overdose Holmes. They should've shown Holmes wanting the drugs after he got overdosed. Holmes is a drug addict after all. I liked that he killed the last woman. Also he shot Holmes and that made me so happy. (For any other Holmes I would of been so mad!) I hated that they made Holmes kill him. I would of literally stood up and clapped if Moriarty killed him. (That would never ever be with any other Holmes.) I also don't get why Holmes was able to sword fight after getting shot. I mean yeah he was shot in the left arm and he is right handed, but doesn't it hurt a lot when you get shot. This Moriarty is my number two favorite. (Number one being Andrew Scott of course.)
The last scene was really good. Partly since it was finally over!
