Back in Time for Birmingham (2022)
A family experiencing life in the decades in Birmingham
The series follows the Sharmas as they experience life for newly-arrived Asians in Britain, starting from the 50s and finishing in the present day. I've really enjoyed this 4-part series. The family is so very likeable and I've learned so much. I hope we see more of the Sharmas.
Derry Girls: The Agreement (2022)
Perfection
It doesn't get better than this. Sublime writing, acting, everything. Emotional, honest, profound and true. Hats off to all involved, fantastic in every way. Will be missed.c.
La La Land (2016)
My happy place
After many, many viewings, I can confirm this takes me right to my happy place. That's it. Just bliss in dismal times.
And yes, I loved Moonlight, too.
Wolfe: Episode #1.1 (2021)
A good start
I liked this. Wolfe is flawed but kind and, of course, brilliant. The team are all believable and capable, and it's great to see Amanda Abington and Natalie Tena in this.
I liked it enough to watch the next two, equally interesting and worthwhile.
Men in Black: International (2019)
I liked it
It's too long (by about 20 minutes), but it's fun. Okay, it's pretty predictable, but the leads are very pretty, too.
Unforgotten: Episode #4.6 (2021)
In bits
So understated and beautiful, the dialogue so real, and the acting superb throughout.
I didn't expect that ending. I won't forget it.
Dublin Murders: Episode #1.8 (2019)
So... What happened?
Excellent acting, gorgeous woodland scenery.
But after 8 episodes, a let down of an ending, sadly. No resolution of the original mystery, really. It didn't help that the writer (of the original novels and of this adaptation) conflated two books into one series. The whole "Lexie" strand seemed very rushed and far fetched.
But, despite my reservations, Dublin Murders is still worth watching. And maybe the resolution was just too subtle for me and the ambiguity will satisfy others.
