The Meg (2018)
Could have.... Should have.... DIDN'T
I was hoping this would be an interesting enlargement of JAWS. Unfortunately it failed to live up to a SYFY shark film. The premise was interesting even if as usual they played lose with physics, so what a shame that they ballsed it up. It wasn't darkly humourous enough and lacked some of those 'We're gonna need a bigger boat!' moments. The shocks weren't really shocking as the director signposts each (a sin that so many horror films are guilty of). There wasn't enough blood and even the joke aimed at shark fishermen came out like a damp squib.
Will I add this to my cheap shark film collection? In truth probably but only if it comes accompanied by something with some bite!
K-Shop (2016)
A poor excuse for a film!
I'll keep this quick - AVOID!
Sorry I haven't met the word count yet so with a little waffle we'll head for the main point. This film will satisfy a particular set of viewers and anger those with more to say.
Better Watch Out (2016)
Yet another waste of space posing as a horror/comedy/film!
Better watch Out! is actually the warning to anyone unfortunate enough to place this pathetic excuse for a film into their DVD/Blu-Ray player (True someone has to in this case myself. lol).
From the start this film shows that the writer and director have seen a series of films including Black cat, Home Alone, When a Stranger calls and of course Scream. Unfortunately they learnt nothing from these experiences.
This leads the film into as others have mentioned the juvenile realm of the many angst ridden teenagers who have had a crush on their babysitter and have an overwhelming need to try and prove themselves to the world. You have the usual drug references seemingly necessary to films in this day and age to satisfy a certain strata of society. The female heroine is along with the rest of the cast poorly fleshed out while still retaining the usual hackneyed characteristics of a babysitter based film.
There are no real scares, the plot is apparent from the get go and the cast have been drawn from the lowest end of the drama school dropout list. I have read some reviews that praise the cast and I can only say personally that they were obviously watching a different film with a different cast.
It is a shame that these types of film are sold at prices ranging up to £10 a shot as the buyer should be compensated. If any film deserved to be in the sold free with a can of drink category this is one.
My advise if to walk quickly away from this title and invest in something from the 70s or early 80s when babysitters were terrorised by a host of strangers from within and without the home!
