Das Privileg (2022)
The 1st 5 minutes turned me off
The first 5 minutes...
First responders leave an 8-year-old boy sitting alone in an accident site with a bloody knife in his hand.
A mom yelling the cliche "let me through! Let me through!" while people hold her back.
Those same first responders stand around chatting oblivious to a gruesome scene, no one offering help or comfort of any kind as a young boy walks between them to gaze upon the horror.
It is not good movie making.
It seems the movie makers were terribly lazy in plot development when they wanted to be.
The trailer would get six stars from me.
I had hope...
Trap for Cinderella (2013)
Its a movie, not a book.
From another review:
"So if you did not like the plot, do not blame the screenwriters or the actors; blame the author of "Piege pour Cendrillon." Yet I have a feeling most people have not actually read the novel, therefore, you have no place to comment, considering this is an ADAPTION OF THE NOVEL."
This is a movie, not a book. As such the Director and Screenwriter must be held accountable for what is produced not the author of a book.
It was the movie makers decision to use this particular book.
They could have chosen a million others.
My reaction to the book? Haven't any, did not read it.
Why should that influence my abillity to review a movie?
That being said, my reaction to this movie was "meh.." at best.
Someones good idea but not my idea of good.
Papillon (2017)
Poor millennials....
Papillon with Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen known as one of the greatest movies ever made.
Who thought they might improve upon it?
I watched this movie so I could review it with good conscience.
If the original had never been made, I undoubtedly would have enjoyed this movie more and rated it higher.
Unfortunate for this movie is it will forever be compared to the original, and it will always come up short.
Sad that young millennials might not even know this is a poor substitute for the original.
Sadder still it will probably end up with a better rating because the young voters think the actors are "hot".
EDIT:
Seems a few reviewers invoke the power of the book as reason for a high score. Some even chastise folks for not reading.
In rebuke: "All anyone does is read, doesn't anyone watch MOVIES anymore"??
Might I offer this is a movie site about movies. A quick search can help you find some excellent book review sites.
The Last Winter (2006)
Horror, Mystery, Thriller? HOW? WHERE?
I thought I had missed a gem. I was wrong.
This movie prompted me to write my first review.
Yeah, my first but not fake. Why shill on a movie 12 years old??
What a sad waste of talent.
A good cast that acted well above this movie.
I was neither horrified, mystified, or thrilled.
The "threat" in this movie was inadequately developed and almost non exsistent.
Unending character development and "deeply meaningful" conversation pegged this movie closer to a drama than anything else.
Thought it might be a slow burn leading to some awesome ending, not.
I gave it maximum patience for over an hour, than started fast forwarding hoping for a climax that never came.
I have given more time to this review than the movie is worth.
3/10 for a good cast trying to save this movie.
Too bad the writer, director, editor, producer, and studio wouldnt let them.
