The Batman (2022)
3/10
Clever story but soooo boring and tedious
29 June 2022
I had to watch this in two sitting because I kept falling asleep. Paul Dano is excellent, almost as good as Colin Farrell. But it's all so slow! Endless shots of Batman doing nothing. Over-dramatic music that frequently sounds like the empire's march in Star Wars. And so dark as to be absurd - no lights at all in Alfred's hospital? I think Bruce could afford a slightly better place.

I really hope this isn't the start of a 9-hour snooze fest trilogy.

Boring

Nothing to see here. Lots of driving, some decent music, not much else.

Really?

I can't be bothered to explain. It's just awful. I mean, it's demeaning to women, trivial and I wish Diane Keaton had more self respect.

Pick your message
10 July 2019
Addiction to social networks? Facebook knowing more about you than the police? Our attention span of 1 minute regarding life and death situations? Don't text and drive? You can choose your own message, and meanwhile enjoy the usual wonderful acting of Andrew Scott and an almost equally good display from Topher Grace.

And to those saying it's not proper Black Mirror... because there's no implants involved, or as yet non-existent tech? Think back to series 1 episode 1 and have a word with yourself. Not to mention the fact that series should evolve, or die - and then we'll move on to the next one in a couple of minutes of course.

Draws you in and mesmerises you

Mind-blowing. I don't know how to describe it without giving too much away. Just watch it and I challenge you not to cry at some point.

Oh to have problems like that

Any possible feel-good feelings wiped out by the disgust at such shallow society.

Hypnotic and so clever
18 August 2018
Quite simply mesmerising. I saw this in the modern art museum in Warsaw and saw it 3 times before I left the room. I think I'll probably watch it another 10 times on YouTube before I even come close to appreciating how intricate and clever it is (THIS is what marks it apart from the soppy The Snowman that some seem to think deserved the Oscar). The interaction (without actual interaction) between the multitude of characters is fascinating to behold. As my partner put it, "I'm freaking out!"

Pathetic, and so disappointing
12 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
That this film has the name Die Hard in it is an insult to the first 3 films. The 4th was poor, but this one finds new depths. Those people saying "but it's fun" or "great car chase at the start" need a reality check. If this film had no connection with Bruce Willis or Die Hard it would have gone straight to DVD without a doubt. Ridiculous stunts at the end, shameless ripoff of the 1st film's slow-mo fall, lack of a real villain, lame one-liner "dialogue" between McClane and his son, and the cherry on the top..... Apparently there is now a compound that can be sprayed in a radioactive area (a store room in Chernobyl) which renders it safe to remove masks etc within seconds. Not to mention McClane and his son happily breezing into the site of one of the worst nuclear accidents in history with no apparent concerns for radiation sickness, just a lame joke about a third leg or losing hair. Oh and if you watch the extended edition, it makes no sense. McClane is there to save his son from jail but spends the whole film complaining that he's on vacation. This film has no redeeming quality.
