Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
I really enjoyed this miniseries
I don't know why this show got so much hate. I think it's a great miniseries. I love how Obi-wan has to confront the past in order to properly heal. He goes through a really great character arc and honestly it bridges the gap between the Prequels and Originals perfectly. Reva is a fantastic new character. Her character has a lot of depth and by the end of it you really feel for her and understand where she's coming from. Seeing her conflict with the other Inquisitors was very interesting and I think did a great job expanding upon the already existing Inquisitor characters. Little Leia is such a fun character. Vivien played her perfectly, and I really think Carrie would have been proud to see it. Tala is also a fantastic new character. I really love how she inspires Obi-wan to bring back that fight and realize there is still some good in the galaxy worth fighting for. Darth Vader is absolutely incredible. Scary as hell and force of pure rage. It was wonderful to see Hayden return as both Anakin and Vader. Even though he wasn't in it a whole lot, every scene he was in was perfectly done and he added so much to it. The final Vader and Obi-wan duel was so masterfully done. So aggressive and unpredictable. So much raw emotion too. Definitely one of my new favorite duels in the entire saga. Overall I seriously really enjoyed this miniseries.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 10: The Passenger (2020)
The best episode thusfar...
This episode was really fun. So much going on. Never a dull moment. I love the frantic nature of this episode. The Mandalorian has to deal with so much problems. Having to transport an alien mother to her husband, being chased by X-Wings, crashlanding on a planet, having to fix the ship, having to fight of spider like creatures. Kinda reminded me of The Empire Strikes Back where Han, Leia, Chewie and C3-P0 can't catch a break from being chased by the Empire. Some may call this a filler episode, but I disagree with that. This is a part of a larger journey, where jumping from planet to planet is to be expected. And it fits as part of that journey. There's still an overall goal in delivering the child to his kind. Overall, a very exciting episode. Really looking forward to next week.
Star Wars Rebels: Jedi Night (2018)
The best episode of the entire show
This episode is filled with such raw emotion. Relatively simple in concept, with the group trying to rescue Hera from Imperial captivity. And yet, this episode is complex with character relations. The relationship between Hera and Kanan is so beautiful yet tragic. Seeing them talk lovingly with banter is so sweet. But then the final part of the episode hits. It's easily one of the saddest character deaths I've ever seen. It's so tragic, yet heroic. Kanan giving his life to save the people he loves is very heroic and Jedi like. This episode is a perfect tribute to the character of Kanan. A Nobile Jedi who fought to protect the innocent people of the galaxy and to protect his close friends. One of the greatest Jedi of the saga. And easily my favourite character of this show.
Star Wars Rebels: Trials of the Darksaber (2017)
Finally some development with Sabine
Prior to this episode, I wasn't a fan of Sabine. She was the least interesting of the Ghost crew, she really didn't have that much struggles, was on top of almost everything that was thrown at her, and she just seemed like an edgy teen who love graffiti. This episode not only gave some more history to her, but also gave her struggles and made her more relatable. Finding out why she left her Mandalorian family was really compelling and added a lot to her character. Also, Kanan training Sabine with lightsaber combat was super interesting and cool to see. And most of all, Sabine struggles with learning how to fight. She has some relatable weaknesses, which helped make her character so much better. Overall, a great episode. Sabine has definitely improved a lot as a character and I actually am starting to like her.
The Assistant (2019)
DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILER!
The Trailer is super misleading and makes the film out to be a suspenseful thriller. It is not. It is a dialog driven drama and is much more focused on small details. A lot of time is dedicated to simple actions, and the film takes its time. It asks the viewer to play attention and focus on certain things each character says. This movie definitely isn't for everyone and many people would probably find this boring. I for one think it's brilliant and must be viewed with an open mind and no expectations. I would recommend this to anyone who appreciates small scale, dialog driven, indie dramas. If you're looking for a suspenseful thriller, or a fast paced film, this isn't the film for you.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Corruption (2010)
Sadly boring...
The Clone Wars is an excellent TV show, but it does have some weak episodes. This is one of them. There really isn't that much going on. Satine and Padme talking about trade routes is really uninteresting and boring. Trade Routes weren't interesting in The Phantom Menace, so why would you try it here? Also, a conspiracy about poisoning kids is a really dumb plot point and seems like a desperate attempt to add some form of excitement to this episode. Overall, a weak episode. Definitely one of the worst episodes in the show.
The Lighthouse (2019)
One of the best films I've seen in a long time...
This film is an absolute masterpiece. Everything about it is incredible. The acting is beyond amazing. Robert Pattinson and Willem Defoe give their best performances of their careers. The plot is simple, yet captivating. Two guys on an island is the basic premise and is really all you need to know going into the film. The set is mesmerizing. Such a brilliant small location with such a rustic old look to it. The black and white look really fits in this film. Especially the aspect ratio, it really makes the film feel that much older and captures the time this film takes place in. This film reminded me of Eraserhead, with similar creepy imagery and atmosphere. Yet also, both films are completely different. In all honesty, this might be my favourite film of the 2010s. It blew me away.
The Fanatic (2019)
A special kind of bad
This movie blew me away. It's so bad, but so hilarious. I haven't laugh this hard while watching a movie since Twisted Pair by Neil Breen. The Fanatic is so funny. John Travolta steals the show. Like every line he says in the film is comedic gold. Especially when his first line in the movie is "Can't talk too long. Gotta Poo". I absolutely recommend watching this film if you're looking for a good laugh and generally enjoy movies so bad they're good. It will blow you away.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 6: The Prisoner (2019)
Super bad...
Oh boy, this show has gotten worse. This episode is just so poorly written and the acting is ridiculous. I love Bill Burr, but he feels very miscast. The other side characters are annoying and way too over the top. Especially the Twi'leks. The prosthetics on their faces looked off too. The location of the ship was cool, but the combat sucked and the twist of events was so predictable. This episode really sticks out like a sore thumb. Doesn't fit with the previous episodes. Overall, really bad. I am really disliking this show.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 3: The Sin (2019)
Ehhh. I mean, it's okay but...
As of now, I am really underwhelmed with The Mandalorian. Not a whole lot has happened and there hasn't been a major antagonist yet. I guess Werner Herzog's character is kinda the antagonist, but I really isn't given off that way. It isn't quite clear, and because of that, the conflict feels flat. The writing isn't good. Doesn't feel natural and comes off as just ridiculous at times. Especially the humor. Really disappointed in the character of The Mandalorian. I know he's supposed to be mysterious, but he isn't that interesting. I especially don't like the flashback scenes. They feel forced in at an awkward time. Especially when they decide to do it twice in the same exact way. But over all, I am not enjoying The Mandalorian as much as others are. I am hoping it gets better.
Following (1998)
An absolute masterpiece..
For a long time, I've been dying to see this movie. I absolutely love Christopher Nolan and I wanted to see all of his films, especially the one that started his career. Wow, not only did it exceed all expectations I had for it, but I think it might be my new favourite of his work. The story is brilliant. It's constructed in a nonlinear style and takes a lot of ingenious twists and turns. The characters are so well written. They feel so convincing and are very interesting. The editing and cinephotography are also excellent. I absolutely love the low budget feel. Overall, this film is incredible and I highly recommend it.
Friday the 13th Part X: To Hell and Back (1995)
Really impressive!
For a fan film, this really blew me away. To be honest, I think it's better than some of the actual films. They really put in a lot of effort into making it convincing and it worked. This really feels like a Friday the 13th movie. Just a low budget one with a VHS camera. They made Jason look great. He actually looks deformed from the sides and back of his head. The mask is cool. All beat up and old. They could've easily went with a fresh hockey mask, but they decided to make it looked tattered. Usually fan made films have terrible acting, but in this it isn't too bad. Honestly not much different from the real films. Overall, a great fan film that I highly recommend giving a watch if you like the Friday the 13th movies or just slasher films in general. You can find it on YouTube. The creator himself re-edited the film and uploaded it to YouTube.
Batman (1989)
This film hasn't aged well...
I was really curious to rewatch this film. I remember liking it when I was younger when I had a Batman craze. Still love Batman now. I hadn't seen the film in a while, so I was curious. Damn, this film disappointed big time. The main problem I have with it, is the characters. They are very underwhelming and aren't interesting. I didn't like Vicki Vale or Knox. Boring uninteresting additions that got more attention then necessary. Michael Keaton was decent as Bruce Wayne but they didn't give him enough screen time. I know they were trying to make him feel mysterious, but I really didn't feel too connected with him. His relationship with Vicki is also rushed and underwhelming.
Now let's talk about Jack Nicholson as the Joker. I do admit, he did a decent job. But as far as his character goes, it's all over the place. I didn't really see a real motivation behind what he does. He just did random things because he felt like it. Heath Ledger's Joker on the other hand had much more reasoning to why he is commiting these mass attacks. He did things randomly, but he did it to try and break Batman's moral compass. Jack Nicholson's Joker on the other hand, did stupid like trow paint all over an art museum just because he likes Vicki and feels like he can do whatever he wants. He didn't feel that much of a threat. This isn't Jack's fault though. The fault is in the writing.
Common Batman characters such as Commissioner Gordon and Harvey Dent are barely used. They just show up every now and then just to make an appearance. While instead more time is spent on Knox and Vicki.
Overall, not impressed by this film. The Dark Knight Trilogy is so much better.
Stranger Things (2016)
I mean, it's good but...
Okay, I've been watching this show since it was first released. It's a decent show, but has major flaws. The biggest one being: it's unoriginality. It steals so many things from different films. Eleven (El) has a power similar to the force, some of the creatures resemble the creature from The Thing, The Blob and Silent Hill. Even the concept of a group of kids trying to fight an evil demonic being is similar to It. The story is very predictable and at times it's pretty cheesy. But it's still pretty entertaining. The characters are decent (for the most part) and it is fun to watch. But over all, I'm not impressed with it. Definitely not a masterpiece or anything. I think it's overrated.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (2011)
Actually pretty good...
The first film was an eh movie. Nostalgic and entertaining, but hasn't aged well. Kinda cringey at times. This film though I think is a lot better. Better acted and also funnier. The relationship between Greg and Roderick is great. Hilarious and fun. Story is also a lot better. Overall, pretty good. Definitely has aged better than the first film.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010)
Nostalgic, but hasn't aged well.
I remember loving this movie when I was a kid. I am now an adult, so I was curious to rewatch the old childhood artifact. It definitely brought back some memories. But it's not that good of a film. Entertaining yes. But nothing special. Just really a Saturday movie when you're bored and have nothing else to do. Definitely a fun movie for kids. But that's pretty much it. There has been movies of my childhood that have aged great. Some examples are Star Wars, The Iron Giant, Toy Story, esc. This film ain't it though. It's not terrible, but nothing great. Kinda cringey at times. But overall, kinda mediocre. Okay at best, but that's about it.
Alien³ (1992)
Underrated masterpiece...
Everyone thinks this movie is a huge disappointment and one of the worst in the series. Are you kidding me? This film is incredible. Not only does it go back to the horror of the first film, it invents new brilliant ideas. Like the Xeynomorph being impregnated in a dog (or cow, depending on which version you see), and taking features of that creature. The setting is incredible. Isolated and eery. The new additional characters are great. Clemens and Dillan are awesome and complex characters that add to the story. Ripley could not be better. Sigourney gives an emotionally empowering performance. I think it's the best she's ever been. The additional conflict with the company is incredible. People who say that there didn't need to be another movie after Aliens don't realize that the conflict with the company wasn't resolved in that film. This film not only expands upon it, but also concludes it in the best possible way. I absolutely love Alien³. My second Favourite in the series. I don't get why people hate this film.
The Godfather Part III (1990)
Not as bad as everyone says it is...
Although it does have notible flaws, The Godfather Part III is an incredible film. It continues the story of Michael Corleone and takes it to an all time high. Al Pacino is brilliant. It might be his best performance. The problems this film has are really just pacing issues in the first half of the film, and some dialogue that isn't great. Especially between Vincent and Mary. But these problems don't take a lot away from the movie. Now, is it as good as the first two films? No. Heck no. But that doesn't mean it's a bad movie. It's a worthy final installment that I think is severely underrated.
Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)
...what did I just watch
I just saw this movie and I got to say...this is one of, if not, the worst movie I've ever seen. It is so bad. The characters suck, the story is so over the top, the acting is bad, and the kills are so hilariously bad. This movie makes Friday the 13th Part V seem like a masterpiece. And I thought that one was bad. Friday the 13th Part VIII is something else. I'd actually highly recommend seeing it just for the humor. It's pretty hilarious at times. But other than that, this movie just sucks. I actually had a hard time comprehend what and why things were happening. This movie just shut off my brain. I think I killed braincells watching this pile of garbage. This movie is definitely a 1/10.
