The Forever Purge (2021)
Whoever Wrote the Dialog has Never Been Outside a City
Ridiculous tropes and nonsensical dialog permeate this stinker of a film. It is always frustrating to watch movies set in the country when the writers have no clue whatsoever what it is like. This made for a super-corny script.
The wardrobe was pretty cheesy as well.
The actors couldn't do a whole lot with the awful script, but what they did do wasn't bad. Also, some of the masks were very creepy. Those are the good things I can think of to say.
Why Are You Like This (2018)
Satire is still alive!!
This is a hilarious and fresh take on modern comedy. All the characters are awful, ridiculous very much watchable.
The Invisible Man (2020)
No respect for the SciFi aspect AT ALL
The invisible man concept is creepy AF, but it also buckled under the weight of of it's sci-fi thriller origins.
This modern day interpretation embraces FULLY the emotions of a woman that has been beaten, completely controlled, possibly raped, then gaslighted (was gaslit??) and terrorized throughout the rest of the movie. Step by step, through her eyes, being terrorized. Always terrorized.
No other point of view is brought into the story. I left the movie still vaguely unaware of how some of the people in it had anything to do with the main character or her life. When the main antagonist showed up he looked random and strange.
Elizabeth Moss did a great job of looking miserable and scared throughout the movie and Aldis Hodge did a good job of looking incredibly nice. Those are the 2 good things I can think to say. None of the story made any real sense.
Other than that, this is not a movie for intelligent people, The story was flat out disrespectful to it's original scifi origins, but I can see it being okay for folks who like movies that invoke feeling.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Dull and disjointed
This is way overrated. The only explanation I can think of is people must have written reviews after the first couple of episodes.
It started out strong and interesting with a very heavy creep factor, but after the first couple episodes it keeps going over and over the same story from each person's point of view. Each point of view has no big reveal, and it works out to be an over dramatized snoozefest peppered with long, silly monologues.
Very disappointing, especially since it started out so promising.
Prodigy (2017)
Low budget, bad acting
This was a low budget film with a predictable plot, canned dialog and bad acting.
The cast are caricatures, not characters. Bad acting delivers trite lines from a worse script on the same set for most of the movie.
