Irish Wish (2024)
Couldn't get invested
I'm always down for a good hallmark movie- this isn't it. The scenery was so magical but it seemed like it could have just been a sound stage with green screen. Biggest problem is the lack of character development. I couldn't buy any of the relationships. Plus I found it off putting that these people who were supposed to be getting married were so invested in other people. It just felt very shallow and contrived. I really liked the actor who played James though- he had the only convincing role in the movie! Lindsay was very sweet too and I like her in these types of films. But this one just wasn't great.
Chad (2021)
You're not supposed to "like" Chad...
This show is hilarious and Chad is one of those characters that is a train wreck of cringe. I feel like people who hate this show are missing the point. Chad is a self centered annoying little jerk and it's fun to watch him fail. He is played so well by Nasim because she created this character, he's not supposed to be likable (in the general sense of the word), he's not supposed to be a normal kid. He's the quintessential clueless yet self righteous little punk imagined up by a comedian and executed perfectly. He creates all his own problems and we get to watch him struggle his way through them and it's fun to watch. It's so funny and not at all serious. Season 1 was good and season 2 has not disappointed, my husband and I love it and would watch a 3rd season if they made it. Unfortunately the networks can't keep an actually funny show going for more than 2 seasons any more *RIP Detroiters*
Keep Breathing (2022)
Left me disquieted
Got through the series in one sitting because I wanted to see something good happen- I think the last 30 seconds gave us a happy ending? I did enjoy the story telling, the window into Liv's mind made this more than a survival story, but it's too bad she wasn't that likable. I mean I can understand her disfunction but her character arc was kind of shallow. Plus she went through SO MUCH DEADLY STUFF and just got right back up, it was pretty hard to swallow. I didn't want her to die- but it would have made more sense than what actually happened. Overall confusing and left me feeling heavy, even though I think it was a happy ending. If you go into this movie with awareness of its shortcomings you may not be as thrown off as I was, perhaps you could just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Murderville (2022)
Had me laughing out loud
This show is kind of odd, but in a good way. Will Arnett is likable in pretty much everything he's in, and watching him play off the guest stars is fun. The awkward improv moments got me laughing so hard, if you love offbeat cringe humor you'll get a kick out of this too.
Encanto (2021)
A subtle story that hits home
This movie isn't an epic tale of good vs evil, rather the villain is a toxic family dynamic that risks damaging the magical connection they share. Societal and familiar pressure to be perfect is the crux of the issues here, which left some reviewers unsatisfied- but it really touched me! Disney knows how to produce a visually stunning and musically inspired film, so there's no disappointments there, but this different type of story. There will be those of us that can relate to these characters in a visceral way, while others probably won't understand or care that much. But if this review makes sense to you, you'll probably love this movie as much as I do!
Twister (1996)
I love this movie
This film brings back good childhood memories, and I truly enjoy it every time I watch it! One of those movies I watch again and again over the years. I have no idea if it's accurate and I don't care. It's a good story, great cast, heart pounding effects and nice character development. Just enjoy the ride and let it take you along the Twister!!
Deck the Halls (2006)
Not as bad as I thought
My husband and I enjoy dumb movies, and we're happy with a stupid Christmas flick. I think this is the best way to start this film: it will be joyfully dumb. Enter the best quality of this movie: it has a great cast! The meat and potatoes of this movie are that the actors are playing the characters they play so well. Just enjoy it!! It's so stupid, but I just love that about this movie. I was truly happy I watched this, I hope you are too!
Clickbait (2021)
You won't see the end coming
This show is a complicated commentary of our online lifestyle, with soooo many twists and turns. The final episode is out of left field, but I wouldn't say that's a bad thing. We all like to feel smart and figure it out, and this show doesn't allow that. I think that's why so many reviewers are pissed, because they didn't get the satisfaction of knowing the killer before the big reveal. It is somewhat disappointing though, because Nick's death was just so meaningless. You are left feeling kind of empty, which is why I knocked off a couple points.
If you're the type to get offended by "woke-ness" then you'll get annoyed by this show, but I barely noticed that (unlike so many other reviewers). I thought the characters and casting were well done, they felt genuine to me. It was interesting to see all of the different sides to the story and the build up keeps you on the edge of your seat. Despite the bizarre turn at the end, I'd definitely recommend this to suspense and crime-tv lovers.
Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar (2021)
If you like "Old Greg" you'll probably love this movie
I love stupid, random humor and I loved this movie. It is not meant to be taken seriously in any way, so if you can't get on board with that idea, don't waste your time on it. It's bizarreness should be fully embraced! It is so different than I thought it would be, but thoroughly satisfying.
