Azumanga daiô (2002)
The best anime ever!
I first read the books and they were so great I just had to see the anime! I really love the way it keeps so true to the original characters - out of all the anime I've seen azumanga always brings a smile to my face, I love each and every one of the characters and the story lines are so hilarious and (in some places) so surreal you can watch it again and again! My favourite character has to be Miss Yukari- she's so crazy one minuite and then fast asleep the next, and you've just gotta love her driving! Best moments...any time Sakaki encounters a cat :D and when Osaka accidentally tries to wake up Yukari with a huge knife on summer vacation! I would strongly recommend this to anyone, whether they like anime or not, it's such great fun everyone will love it!
Boohbah (2003)
groovy and surreal
This show is absolutely fantastic. I love it! The strange rainbow coloured creatures are so cute and their dances are pure genius. I always burst out laughing when they run around and bump into each other. I think this show is ideal for small children and people with a slightly peculiar sense of humour - like me! It proves that you can have great fun without making any sense at all.
Although I wouldn't describe this show as educational, it is certainly suitable for under-fives, and anyone else for that matter! Watching Boobah always cheers me up; I think it represents an ideal world where everyone is friendly and no bad things ever happen.
My favourite character is the Voice with his deadpan delivery and cool detachment. Watch it and you'll see what I mean. This show is set to become a cult classic, so immerse yourself in the sweet little world of Boobah.
Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper (2004)
Amazing!!!
OK, OK, so it's not the most sophisticated film in the world, but it has a surprisingly good plot and great sing-along music. Good for when you're feeling low, this movie will cheer you up. Best bits are definitely the 'out-takes' in the credits. They must be seen to be believed. My one grumble however, is that the Shellys could have put in a bigger appearance; they didn't even have speaking parts - they should talk to their agents! Kelly Sheridan is fabulous as always although the best character must be the super-camp villain! His evil laugh just cracks me up. Then there is the 'doggish-cat' who always barks instead of meowing, which is a little strange, but very cute.
I have seen this film far too many times and know practically all the words to the songs (sad but true!), but it never gets dull. All in all, another great movie from Barbie and a worthwhile first musical. I really need to see the other Barbie films though, they are being made too fast for me to catch up. But of the ones I've seen, this is the best. Suitable for all ages!
The X Files (1998)
Brilliant Film!
O.K maybe I voted a bit too high, but I honestly think this film deserves it.I didn't think I would understand what was going on, my friend is the big X Files fan, and I have only seen a few episodes. But this film was surprisingly clear and well set out with plenty of action and an impressive plot. It was a great stand alone for first timers, but also fitted neatly in with the show.My only grumble is that the first bit was a little unclear - and of course,it wasn't long enough!Anyone who has seen this should go on http://www.jerrythefrogproductions.com/FighttheFuture.html which is really clever and funny. I would urge everyone and anyone to watch this film, it has made me an instant fan. I am now planning to get my hands on the X Files series, just as soon as I have bought myself a DVD player. :-)
