FBI: Victim (2022)
poorly recycled plot
Ok we have OA, a former army ranger, an fbi agent... having issues being the victim. His character has always been on the sensible side, but not this time. I'm not expecting a heroic OA character with him being the victim, but not expecting a totally terrible jerk of a character either.
Then, we have his assault story parallel/similar to the case of the story so that he can relate, learn and grow from it. Similar plot being used over and over and over again.
Seems like they are recycling, re-using a template, with just some minor tweaks here and there. The issue is it has been done way too many times! Makes for a terrible watch.
Red Notice (2021)
it is an ok effort
3 big names... must be good, right? Turns out to be quite average. All three play their typical characters, nothing new. Storyline is formulaic but decent enough. It is somewhat entertaining, definitely could have been better. It felt like they couldn't agree on the direction and then compromised, and settled on the safest route.
Free Guy (2021)
highly uninteresting
Nothing here to keep my interest. Pretty bland and very straightforward, paper thin storyline. As the story unfolds, you pretty much can tell what will likely happen next, full of cliches and typical plot. Lots of cgi, but hardly impressive. Watching this, i felt nothing, not even remotely invested in the characters. Didn't hate any of the villains, didn't root for any of the main characters. It's borderline boring.
FBI: Most Wanted (2020)
this has be the dumbest cop show.
Do they not have any consultants for the show? I am not a cop, but, even I have the common sense not to make a call whilst your back is to the mall with active shooters. Also, imagine, you are an FBI agent, you apprehended one of the perpetrators, you get the walkie talkie, and first thing you do is taunt the rest of them? What does that pointless move do for an FBI agent? Tell me you are not an imbecile... And I really thought you have to be smart to get into FBI?
I can overlook some dumb parts. I get it, some dumb things are necessary, some to build suspense, create frustrations, prolong the scenes, some leeway for camerawork, etc. I am not trying to nitpick nor looking for flaws on purpose, nor am I looking for highly accurate cop procedure. I really tried to overlook and just enjoy it as much as possible. But, when there are too many dumb things to overlook, it gets overwhelming to the point where one starts to wonder, how stupid do you think the viewers are?
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
The first episode hit it out of the park...
The first episode was great! BUT... everything then slowly falls into a highly predictable pattern, no surprises, and totally lacks originality. Usually that could be redeemed by some great acting and other elements, but, none present here.
While this is not a good series (nowhere near 10/10 as given by some reviewers), I wouldn't say this is terrible either (maybe they gave those ridiculous high score purely based on the first episode. Either way, those are not helpful reviews).
Back on topic, besides being highly predictable mess and full of cliche characters... it also adds a huge chunk to the typical teenage issue. Probably not a problem if the young actor helming the part was any good...
This is almost turning into a teenage drama. Maybe it was meant to be that way? After all, it is "new blood", passing the torch down to his son? If so, the "new blood" is a terrible wooden pick.
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
way too overrated...
The animation is good, not great, far from blow-your-mind amazing. The storyline seems to be lacking... i am not a gamer, so, i have no background knowledge, nor do i care. Yes, this failed to draw me in, failed to get me interested and invested. Also, it feels immature, full of cliches and unoriginal. Maybe the gamers can relate better to it?
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
formulaic
Nothing new. Typical storyline, weak and all too familiar coupled with some bad dialogues, and that all was drowned out by the special effects galore. Yeah, the cgi takes center stage...well, almost the whole stage.
The casting doesn't quite work for me except for Tony Leung, he was great. Ben Kingsley, Michelle Yeoh and the village leader were there to sell tickets. They were unnecessary big names in small roles that could have been filled with lesser names. The main roles however...could have been better. Simu Liu and Awkfina lack the star power, the attraction, the draw.
Was this a bad movie though? Not really, it was entertaining enough although I lost interest somewhere near the hour mark. It was already obvious by then how the story will unfold. Could have been much better.
Reyka (2021)
i thought it was going to be interesting...
I didn't have much expectations going in. I just thought it could be interesting. Something different from the agendas Hollywood is pushing nowadays. I just want to be entertained.
Well, this is not it, not for me at least. The drama felt forced, unrealistic, somewhat over the top. A lot of things that don't make sense. The close up camerawork is very annoying...always the same look too. The pacing is off too. Nothing works for me here.
I stopped watching somewhere on the 2nd episode, when a shooter shot a cop, reyka shouts the cop's name and rushes to him. The assailant magically didn't shoot at her, just waiting there. The downed cop utters her name, Reyka... and now she exchanges fire and kills the assailant. Wow! So realistic! Not cliche at all. Oh, she also single handedly found the bodies in the field, no partner, just her and a dog. I am pretty sure she is superwoman and the men here are idiots
It could have been so much better. Such a waste.
