Dune: Part Two (2024)
Epically boring
What an absolute mess this film is. Overhyped cgi garbage. I was so bored I gave up watching it. So much money spent of the visuals, they forgot to make a decent script! Part one was a much better put together story, even though that lacked some spark, it's better than part 2. Background music is ridiculously loud. You have to try and figure out what story they're telling. Why is his mother drinking the blue water and what is she planning? Wtf is the main character trying to do? Messy, just messy.. I'd have rather watched sand blowing in the wind for 2 hours. What were they thinking? Its all just mushed together with visual effects.
Resident Alien (2021)
Best thing on TV!!!
I bloody love this show! Alan Tudyk is pure comedy gold as Harry! I've laughed harder than I ever have watching the Aloen antics. The cast are very talented. How they keep a straight face baffles me! The storyline is comical. Alien crashes on Earth, that he's supposed to destroy, killed a human witness and assumes his identity, learns English watching Law and Order (bases his who personality on it to start with). Comical mess ups on a daily basis. Love it! Absolutely LOVE IT!!! Max being able to see Aliens makes it even more funny. I use many of Harry's catchphrases throughout my day now 🤣 I want this show to go on indefinitely!
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023)
I dont get the hate
I loved the slow build with this show! People always want big, flashy cgi and fights. This, for me, give me intrigue and mystery. I've just finished the first season and I want more!
Godzilla is KING! And not a monster! I loved the characters and the twists and turns. I really liked the Ice Titan and the "New World". 50 years passing in 57 days! Lee Shaw isn't what he first appears either. The ending left me open mouthed with lots of sad tears too.
Hopefully, like me, you respect his season for the characters and story instead of the big, pointless fight scenes that inevitably have no purpose. A solid 8 for story alone! Bring on season 2 please.
Chucky (2021)
Fantastic
I'm a massive fan of Chucky! The later movies slacked a bit but I still enjoyed them! I've just finished part one of season 3 and I'm left screaming for more! Jennifer Tilly is so the best character, ever! Her kill in the last episode is my most favourite!! CHOP! CHOP!!
Some people don't like the main kid characters but I think they do a decent job, plus they've kept them throughout the seasons. Many series lose the main characters when they get this far along. As always, the original voice of Brad Dourif makes Chucky, Chucky!! The kills are exceptionally bloody, something some horrors lack! I'm still surprised at how they come up with the deaths! Very, VERY enjoyable series! I can't wait for more!!!
The Little Mermaid (2023)
It's lacking in something
The Little Mermaid has always been a favourite of mine. I was excited about this remake. Unfortunately, it appears to be lacking. Halle's voice is absolutely brilliant and I like her as Ariel. I do think Disney have let her down as the cgi isn't great. Eric was blah! Easily forgettable. I didn't mind the changes to Scuttle or Sebastian but Flounder??? Shocking!!! All the songs needed some umpth!! The magic just isn't in this film. I loved Ursula and Vanessa. Vanessa nailed it! Best bit of the film!!
Disney need to reign themselves in and put extra efforts into the live remakes. None of them are hitting the mark! Such a shame as its such a waste of some good talent.
Secret Invasion (2023)
Love it for what it is
Expectations after "Endgame" were far too high. You can't expect everything to be at that level. It took 10yrs to achieve that ending.
This is a slow burn series that I found really enjoyable, just like every other series/movie since Endgame. I'm enjoying the slower build, new characters (Olivia Coleman is amazing!). I enjoyed Emilia Clarke as Gaia. The ending isn't a shock, but we need more superheros on Earth at Carol Danvers's level! Losing so many of the OG Avengers means we have to start over again. Go in with no expectations of cameos/big names and enjoy the ride!
Stop comparing to past MCU movies!
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)
Pile of garbage
What an utter disaster this film is. Nothing original at all. It could have restarted the series but it flops, big time. I didn't care for any character. The same old storyline, bad guys coming, mysterious artifact, good guys assemble, fail to stop the bad guys, predictable hero's win ending. Blah, blah, blah. Even the visuals were lacklustre. I kept hoping it would improve, nope. Avoid this if you want to save some braincells. This movie was supposed to kick off a trilogy. They need to walk away and come up with an original idea. Oh, and the "secret organisation" at the end, saw that coming!!
Overall, boring as heck.
Black Adam (2022)
Not terrible
I am not a huge fan of DC movies, Superman being the exception. So I thought I'd give Black Adam a go. I actually enjoyed the movie. Great visual effects. Story was better than I thought. I liked the twist of his son being the chosen one and he was gifted it to save his life. Black Adam is definitely not the hero of this! I think this is my favourite character played by Dwayne Johnson! Not a hero, nor a villian! Black Adam got me excited for a new Superman/Black Adam film and I'm so disappointed that it's not going to happen! It would have been a fantastic film with Superman's morals and Black Adams lack of them!
Overall, I'll watch this movie again! Unlike WonderWoman which definitely needs forgetting!
The Rookie: Feds (2022)
OK, hear me out
I LOVE The Rookie (Fillion is one of my most loved actors!) So when Simone appeared in her first episode of The Rookie, I was very sceptical. I admit, I wasn't keen at all on Feds. After 2 episodes. But, I pushed on and, honestly, it's grown on me! I've loved the crossover episodes, very much so.
This really is a love or hate series. The other characters are pretty decent and the more you get to know them, the more you relate. Niecy, at first, did annoy me, but she's really come into the character the more I've watched. I'm nearly at the end of the season and I'm hoping that when season 2 starts, Simone will really blossom! The tone of the show has progressed really well. Give it a chance!
Fast X (2023)
What the heck
I thought after Fast 9, it couldn't possibly get any worse? Could it? Oh, yes! Garbage. Revenge story, again. Unbelievable fights, again. The cgi was epically poor (the car coming down the steps in Rome).
How can you have a cast like this and make a trash pile of cat turd. The ONLY saving grace was Momoa. I loved his character. What a change from the bog standard "bad guy". Again, I liked Shaw. But its not enough to save Fast X. The absolute kicker, was the surprise survival of a character. Just leave it be. Don't waste your time or money and let the Franchise pass away peacefully. No one can save this.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Spectacular! Marvel at its best!!!!
Wow! I walked out the cinema with a broken, but full heart! This film has a perfect balance of humor and seriousness! I laughed, cried, laughed again. Then reality hit me, we will never see our Guardians together again.
This was the story we needed after a few weak MCU films.
Peter is still mourning Gamora, Nebula has really stepped up, Drax and Mantis are a fab duo, and Rocket stops running. The effects are breathtaking, the soundtrack is on point.
I dont think I will ever get over 3 character deaths quite like the three in this! Old characters, new characters and a whole lot of fun.
If you see one movie this year, see THIS ONE!
Halloween Ends (2022)
I really enjoyed it!
I was sceptic about watching this after all the reviews but I'm glad I did! This is completely different to the typical slasher movie. Is evil born or created? Michael is a old man now and he finds a boy who's killed and creates a new evil. I loved that the movie didn't rely on the old jump and scare tactics of previous movies. This felt more thriller-ish and I bloody loved it. Death, blood and shredders. It's slower and more eerie in my opinion. I'm glad it had the ending it did. Full circle. Evil is well and truly dead. Haddonfield is finally free of death and terror. Jamie Lee Curtis is, as always, phenomenal 👏. Very enjoyable and I felt I was truly back in the original film.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
Emotional
Wakanda Forever is one heck of a traumatic, emotional roller coaster. Everyone speculated about how the franchise could continue without Chadwick. The tribute to his legacy was touching. Not afraid to admit I cried from the onset! He is truly missed!
Onto the story. Angela Basset is absolutely the best thing about this movie! Strong, powerful woman. Her speeches gave goosebumps. The villain was OK, but he didn't give me "chills" or scary bad guy vibes. No real reason for the conflict. Shuris character arc is a bit shoddy. It could have been done better somehow. Ironhearts introduction was good at the start but then sidelined her into a back character. I dislike her suit design but that's personal preference. Plus, Shuri getting stabbed then miraculously healing in minutes, bit silly.
Overall, a good film but I'm glad to see the end of phase 4 🙈.
Falling for Christmas (2022)
Definitely Falling for Christmas
I loves me a good Netflix Christmas movie. I'm obsessed with "A Christmas Prince". This was just what I wanted. Cheesy fun with a sweet twist. It was great to see Lindsay Lohan back in action. Even though you can guess the ending (it's Christmas, of course everything turns out as it should), it's a fun filled movie that will thaw any cold heart. A good nod back to "Mean Girls". Caught myself humming along with it! I did want to slap the character of Tad, he was the only bad thing about this film. Other than that, a good film. Well done Netflix, and Lindsay! Now, line up some sequels!! I want more!
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: Ribbit and Rip It (2022)
Yessssss!
Finally! This whole series has been building to this episode! Daredevil has made his MCU appearance (I literally screamed). We see him do his lawyer thing and crush it, plus a fantastic fight sequence. It was flawless and beautiful!! We get to see Jen Hulk Out like, well, a HULK! A fantastic episode. There isnt one minute i found awful. Jen may actuallybe able to have a life
I'm finally excited about the future of the MCU! The twist with Jens friemd may be foreshadowed too! It'd be brilliant if its confirmed. I can't wait to see what comes of the last episode.
Now all we need is the Daredevil series we've been craving!
Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)
Oh My Witches!
100% worth waiting 30yrs for!!! I'm absolutely in love with this movie! Bette, Sarah and Kathy are just as amazing as they were the first time around. Little nod to Binx during the movie. I loved the story and the ending made me tear up. I loved how it all links back to the original. The young Sanderson sisters are brilliant, especially young Winnie, and it was fabulous to see Billy again! Done to absolute perfection! New story and not a repeat of HP1. Lots of original Easter eggs if you know the original. Disney, you've made us all so happy with this film. Thanks for coming back Witches! Sisters forever!
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: A Normal Amount of Rage (2022)
Great first episode
I absolutely LOVED this episode. I liked the quick intro and back story. I didn't need a massive movie length intro, quick and to the point. A bit of Bruce's blood falls into a cut on Jens arm. The quick transformation is explained by Bruce. I loved their banter and their fight made me laugh. With all the seriousness of Endgame and the aftermath, I enjoyed the lightheartedness of this episode. Tatiana is brilliant 👏. I can't wait to see what comes next for She Hulk.
Sidenote- damn you Marvel with your Tony references. My heart hasn't recovered yet.
The Reef: Stalked (2022)
It's not that bad
I like a good shark movie. This isn't terrible. The editing of a real great white is better than most. A few iffy effects. The film built tension well, I jumped at a few bits
Not perfect but a solid 6 for me.
Prey (2022)
I liked it
After the last (poor) installment, I was very dubious about this. Ok, so the dates are off and who cares? It's not exactly real life is it?! I liked that it's been scraped back to basics. The predator design was good. A few fancy gadgets but no fancy armour. People complained such a small person couldn't take on the Pred, but as I saw it, it was injured already and you remember the story of David and Goliath? It can happen. Plus, it's Sci fi! I like the little tease in the credits. Would love to see another movie set after this as a legend among the Natives. Very good effort.
Lightyear (2022)
I loved it
I dont get why there's so many negative reviews 😕. Toy Story is one of my all time favourite films and to see its origin story is amazing! I laughed, smiled, cried. My 8yr old was captivated. Entertaining film. I didn't see the plot twist coming at all. Great family film.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Nostalgia and all the feels.
This isn't as bad as some make out. I saw the first JP aged 11 when it was first released.
It was good to see Wu finally at rock bottom as he realised he'd finally gone too far. Rexy hit me in the feels in this. Enjoyable romp through the past and present for me. And, of course, baby Beta topped it off for me. Was great to see the entire cast together.
Resident Evil (2022)
Not as bad as people make out
I dont get the hate on this. Its nowhere near as bad as some of the films!!! Set years after the original "incident", Umbrella are at it again. Lance Reddick is a fantastic actor and I love his Albert Wesker. There is room for improvement of course, but I've enjoyed the whole series!
Ms. Marvel (2022)
Enjoyable
This is obviously a show aimed more towards the younger population, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable for us oldies who started with Tobeys Spiderman.
I love the Marvel mini series as its setting us up with possible future Avengers. Kamala is a likeable character with a naiveness to what being a superhero is about. After 3 episodes, I'm looking forward to seeing how this pans out. Hopeful to see her teamed with the likes of Yelena, America, Strange, Cap and Bucky in the future.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Fantastic
I absolutely LOVED this film. Elizabeth Olsen is on fire! The story was fab. What wouldn't a mother do for her children? All she wanted was to be happy. The multiverse drops were amusing. Cameos gave me goosebumps. I cant wait to see what happens going forward.
House M.D.: Wilson's Heart (2008)
My heart is shattered
This, is the best written episode I have ever watched. I didn't like the character of Amber (which was the point) but her illness/death ripped at my soul. Seeing Wilson so devastated and House trying so hard to remember anything to save her was crushing. 10/10.
