The Best of John Belushi (1985)
The Legendary John Belushi
I didn't exactly grow up during the Belushi, as he sadly died 5 years before I was even born. But I still grew up watching him, as both my parents enjoyed SNL and movies that had Belushi in it- Blues Brothers and Animal House. Both great classics in their own right. We also watched the SNL reruns and the new ones as well, so I loved SNL. So I was excited when I saw this on the shelf at Target. IT has some of his greatest skits- Samurai (love the samurai deli), Beethoven, The Disco (forget the name of it), Olympia Restaurant (Cheese burger, Pepsi- no coke)
but granted it also left out a lot of his better skits- blues brothers and such. One of the last skits on the disc is a rather ironic scene, where he's walking in a graveyard going to each of his friends ( from SNL) graves- as if he was the last to die; when he was the first one to die out of that group. The Disc also has some great extras- interviews and "deleted" scenes.
The Ring (2002)
The Ring is a Big Zero
I love horrors, I watch as many as I can see, I read horror books, I study horror and its mythology. So of course I went to see this when it cam out with some friends. Man was I disappointed, I wanted a refund.. and still do. The story line was just pointless and well stupid. It didn't draw you in, there were no surprises. I was amazed at how many people freaked when the girl came out of the TV, it wasn't scary at all. Its not even a new idea.. ever hear of Poltergeist? I wasn't scarred and I wasn't entertained. What makes a horror great? There are two ways to make a horror strong- either make it on something that could truly happen or something that is just full of suspense and tension. This movie had none of it- no reality, no suspense, no surprise. Just a video a women and her child, oh and of course the "hero" boyfriend. The start really wasn't that bad, but it got worse and worse. The end was just idiotic. I would stay away from this film if you are looking for a scare, that is unless you scare easier than a 1 year old.
Finding Nemo (2003)
A total let down
Usually I like Disney's films; there are very few Disney movies I dislike
. even the "princess" films are alright. So I figured this couldn't be that bad
. well I was extremely wrong and disappointed. This film blew. Yes, I get there is a "moral", but even it was portrayed badly. The script wasn't funny, it wasn't intriguing, it was bland and predictable. The whole story from the start was predictable. No twist, no surprises, no excitement. The story isn't even realistic. Fish don't take care of their "babies"
they lay the eggs and leave. Finding his kid would have taken forever
They should have just eaten Nemo or at least the father.. The whole story is just so idiotic, its not funny. I couldn't stand watching this movie. I cant see how people love this movie so much
when there are so many better movies out there. Monsters Inc was great, I loved it
as both Toy stories.. A Bugs life was funny and kept you interested. But finding Nemo is a flop- a fish swimming around looking for another fish, with a stupid sidekick
ya that's an excellent story line. *Rolls Eyes* They could have written a much better story and script.
The Blues Brothers (1980)
A legend and automatic Classic
A Hit from SNL
I grew up with this movie. It was the first "R" movie I ever saw. I had always been a fan of blues and rock, a fan of musicals, comedies and SNL. SNL has many movies based on skits from them
this movie has to be one of, if not the top one. It has great music from a excellent bunch of musicians. And great acting from a nice bunch of performers. John B. had always been into music, and on SNL has portrayed many singers to a great like. He is also one of the funniest guys out there. He has got to be one of the best motion picture comedians and physical comedians. He was a stunts man as well, he liked to do a lot of his own stunts, which by looking at him his hard to believe. Dan A. has a great talent for music, playing an excellent harmonica, raised with the blues and still talks on a blues radio show. Great comedian and actor. Then the movie brings in some real musical talent; James Brown (The king of Soul) Aretha Franklin (if James is the king then she is the queen) Cab Calloway (All around great musician- writer, singer) Ray Charles (one of the greatest song writers and piano players) Donald 'Duck' Dunn (probably one of the greatest living bass guitar players) John Lee Hooker (Great blues musician and guitarist) Performers; Carrie Fisher- plays the crazed ex, a big step from Star Wars. ;) Pee-Wee Herman as a waiter, not a big part but I noticed him. John Candy the Cop, helping the cops with a vendetta. Very smooth. There are others I know I left out, but these are the ones that stand out in my mind. This movie is full of comedy
line after line
scene after scene. The signature watch break, police pile ups, and cursing. The movie is a tri story- A mission from god to get money for the orphanage, avoiding Jakes ex-girlfriend, and getting the band back together and keeping it together
. and of course the smaller stories- avoiding the Nazis, cops, and good ole boys. Its an un-imaginable cast, a great story line and non-stop comedy.
A excellent movie for all those looking for a great laugh and that love great music. This movie is a legend in its own rights and a classic. Maybe even a bit cultish.
Lake Placid 2 (2007)
Just Awful, plain awful
So last night, me and my roommate decide to watch it. We both liked the first one, so of course we are going to watch the second. Big mistake... Every so often I would see my roommates head just shaking, and he would then laugh or comment about what we just saw- never a good comment.
The Graphics were just bad, the crocs just looked so fake- the skin, movement, reactions, explosions. Even the air plane was fake. The acting was below par. At least in the first one they had real choppers and planes and such, and the croc looked a lot better in the first.
The only thing I saw hope in was the fact that Cloris Leachman was part of the film (always been great in her past roles), and she did a decent job in this role as well. She could have done a lot better than this film though . The basic story line wasn't too bad; but I have yet to see a great story line on crocs or gators.
There are also tech problems in the film. Just things that do not truly add up or that make sense. The killing of the crocs with a knife/blade, the eggs, the explosions, the eating of the people.
It feels like they just through this movie together. Not much effort put into it. They could have put a lot more effort into this film, to do it justice. Instead they let it flop... So I would say, spend your time watching something else.
Actually now that I think about it, this movie is very similar to Jaws, maybe thats why the story line works. But again they didn't do it justice.
It was a good laugh though, some funny moments, and just looking at what happens. You just want to laugh at its stupidity.
