Faces of Death (1978)
Death Docummentary
I once heard about this film 15 years ago by my sister who saw it on a copy and she couldn't watch it to the end, due to the graphic nature of this film. As eager as i was wanting to see this film i did 2 years ago and i really didn't know what to make of it.
A doctor studying ways that people and animals meet with death is more than shocking than anyone else studying it, some of the nature in this film is eyes opening wide. Some of the scenes in this is questionable whether is it real or not, and wouldn't be recommended to people who are easily offended.
This film beats Cannibal Ferox that was banned in 31 countries, FACES OF DEATH was banned in 46 countries *CONTAINS SCENES THAT INVOLVE IN ANIMAL CRUELTY*
Maniac Cop (1988)
80s flick
From director William Lustig and a screenplay from Larry Cohen comes the horror/thriller Maniac Cop, i watched this film when it came out and thought it was a load of crap, years later i saw it again and actually enjoyed it.
A honest decent policeman is sent to jail due to corruption, inside he is set upon in the showers, brutally scarred in the face and then pronounced dead by the doctor. Years later murders have been happening in NYC one witness says it was a policeman, Jack Forrest (Bruce "evil dead" Campbell) is investigating these murders after being blamed for one. His investigation leads him to the policeman who was supposed to be dead.
There is a good star cast in this film Richard Roundtree and Tom Atkins star in this film of bent cops in the force and cover up that bounces back in their faces.
Vamp (1986)
Another 80s Class horror
Here's a classic horror thats still getting talked about today that has Chris Makepeace and Robert Rusler as two guys trying to get into a fraternity, all what they need top do is hire a stripper. When they cant find someone they see Duncan who will be their friend for a week if he gives them a car and takes him with him on their hunt to find a stripper, they one they want isn't what she appears to be.
Deedee Pfieffer and Gedde Watanabe are brilliant in this film not to mention a half naked Grace Jones who plays Katrina, if you look at this film it has the same sort of dialogue as from dusk til dawn. strangers going to a seedy bar and get a shock.
Just remember one night stands can be a KILLER
The Abyss (1989)
Cameron's Classic
I was only young when The Abyss came out and i watched it and wasn't to sure what to make of it, the start is a bit slow, i watched it a few years back and i really enjoyed it. At that time i didn't know who James Cameron was until i saw Terminator 2.
Forget all about Cameron's other films that have guns blasting everywhere and car chases, this film is totally different, a submarine has crashed landed on the bottom of the ocean and its up to a team of oil workers to rescue it, what they find down there is beyond belief and a crew member going berserk.
Ed Harris and Micheal Biehn star in this awesome spectacular sci-fi film that will have you bedazzled from start to finish.
The 'Burbs (1989)
don't mess with suburbanite's
i saw this film about 10 years ago and even today still makes me laugh, have you ever had strange neighbours and thought what are they up to, nobody comes out no deliveries, watch Tom Hanks and his neighbours an ex soldier and a dim witted man who'd rather chew broken glass than see his mother-in-law.
Together they seek out what happned to the previous occupants of the house and the sweet old guy at the end of the street who has disappeared, and what is the noise coming from the basement, did they meet with foul play or or are these guys jumping the gun as they find for answers with laughs and stupidity.
Tom hanks, Bruce Dern and Rick Doccumon are a big laugh from start to finish, Corey Feldman is the cool kid on the block with no adult supervision and henry Gibson is one of the creepy new people on the block. This film is a must see for a good Saturday night flick for all the family to enjoy.
From Beyond (1986)
classic
Pure classic 80s Stuart Gordon/Brian Yuzna film starring Jeffrey combs as Crawford Tillinghast as an assistant to Edward Pretorius, together they have created the resonator, a machine that helps them see beyond what the eyes see, due to greed it comes for them. Barbara Crampton (from re-animator) is the doctor trying to get the information from Tillinghast on what happened, what starts out as an investigation turns out to be a nightmare. From start to finish it is pure brilliant the Gordon/Yuzna genre is alive in this film, none of their films can match this classic horror. If you thought that horror films had reached their gruesome peak with the fly, then prepare to have you're stomach churned even more by the sheer gore of FROM BEYOND.
Dead Man Walking (1995)
touching film
This film deals with a death penalty, its based on a true story of a man that rapes a woman and kills her and her boyfriend, and he is given the death penalty. Sean Penn's performance in this is amazing as well as Susan Sarandon she is wonderful as the nun who tries to ease's Penn's character. It is powerful as well as touching on how a man can perform such a bad crime yet one woman touches his heart. This is the type of film you can watch again. Tim Robbins who directed this film and starred in the film Jacob's Ladder, both his performance as an actor and director are truly brilliant. The attack scene is powerful yet not as bad as whats been filmed in past movies, it was filmed as it was when it actually happened.
Spontaneous Combustion (1989)
what happened
Tobe Hooper brought us Salem's Lot The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in the seventies, they were good films but with this one he did something wrong, the main actor Brad Dourif ( the voice of Chucky in childs play) is a really good actor and Tobe's career must've been going down hill, John Landis had a small cameo roll which didn't help it, the special effect were poor, the plot of the story is the OK but some scenes could've been better with some explanation like Sam goes to his car and finds a parcel from someone and later we hear he was adopted under a new name. Tobe must've watched this film and saw it was bad and bounced back and made a few good films.
Opera (1987)
pure terror
Here we have another film by the Italian master of horror Dario Argento, Opera aka Terror at the opera, this has got to be the one for all horror fans everywhere, it is based on the Phantom of the Opera in which Argento made his version of it in the early nineties. But like all his other films Argento uses real animals (none of them were hurt during the making of this film)and his genius ways of using great camera angles and his sadistic mind of hurting people in different ways as possible. i was very young when i first saw this film and i can still remember this film from start to finish. No horror collection would be complete without having this film, after watching this film you wouldn't consider it boring.
Phenomena (1985)
Phenomena
Here we have the best Dario Argento film ever made, it is a typical Argento film, when you watch the start it keeps you're eyes glued to the screen making you wonder how it will finish. Jennifer Connoly and Donald Pleasence are perfect, Not to mention Argento's ex wife Daria nicolodi who has been in numerous films is at her best. The plot to it is fantastic, the effects are spectacular.film critics took pleasure in cutting the film before giving it a rating for it to be released and shocked audiences round the world. All Argento films are good but this one bites the pickle, none of his films can match this one, this one is not for the faint hearted, turn the lights off and enjoy it
