Lucifer: Who's da New King of Hell? (2019)
Desire? Season 5 Please!
Game of Thrones had the biggest budget/production in TV for season 8 but blew it with a rushed, illogical script. Lucifer Season 4 restored my faith in good TV writing. This season was beautifully executed from start to finish, especially the last episode, not one single dull moment.
I love how this season explores the themes of self identity, parenthood, toxic relationship and grief. You can relate to the emotions regardless of your religion or belief. The singing and dancing was a delightful surprise, and it enhanced the story.
As a non religious person, I'm definitely praying for a Season 5.
Can't wait to hear "Hello Detective" inside the LAPD office again.
Lucifer: Everything's Okay (2019)
The Devil is in the details.
After Chloe saw Lucifer's real appearance for the first time in Ep.24 season 3, it was followed by 2 puzzling episodes that answered nothing that Ep.24 brought up. What would Chloe do? What was she feeling? It made more sense if season 3 ended with Ep.24. But thank God, Netflix gave us Season 4.
This episode was beautifully executed almost as if it was a pilot. You could understand the plot even if you have not seen the previous seasons. And many questions (Ep.24) were answered. The thirst have been quenched. Still, more devil nudity please.
I would never get tired of the devil jokes, bravos for keeping them fresh & funny. I was first hooked by the evil but stayed for the warmth and humor. Netflix got it right this time by really answering to what the audience truly desire.
Hellboy (2019)
BEST R-Rated Gore Action Film of 2019! (Spoilers)
There is definitely a special place in hell for the marketing team and the trailer guy who have done this movie zero justice. This is a "R-Rated Gore Action Movie" which I didn't realize until the first blood was shed minutes into the movie and I enjoyed every second of the fun gory ride. You don't market this as Goosbumps, this is gore! This is true horror! This is R Rated!
I wished it was longer so there could show how the father raised Hellboy to better explain the mixed feeling of being trained to kill his "brothers and sisters" and later being betrayed by his human "colleagues". And show us more HELL. The HELL scenes were shorter than a Silent Hill trailer though they were visually stunning, just too short.
Costumes for Milla Jovovich were very disappointing. You don't dress an action star icon as red riding hood in rag. The Baba Yaga part was amazing, added a mystical sense to the hell element.
What attracts me to the Hellboy character is the demon/human struggle that we all go through in life. Hellboy shows us that there is always a choice to be who you are, regardless of your biological background or race/specie. He chose the good side because he was loved.
I hope the studio can realize the boxoffice is affected by releasing so close to Avengers Endgame plus incorrect marketing. This R Rated cult classic gem deserves a sequel to further develop the Hellboy universe! Watch it, you deserve the fun!
Shei xian ai shang ta de (2018)
Light Comedy, Heavy Subjects (best LGBTQ film of the year)
A hysterical mother getting back the life insurance money left to the gay lover by her dead-by-cancer husband. You would think it'd be another depressing drama on LGBTQ tragedies, but it's actually a light comedy, with bits that make you laugh out loud. The heavy subjects are handled beautifully by 'everyday dialogues" with the story told through the teenager's perspective.
The actress has won several awards for the role of the "crazy" mother now, her performance really reminds you of every kind of mothers you know.
A rare, refreshing indie film from Taiwan that touches on LGBTQ issues, you should definitely check it out.
