The Irishman (2019)

Scorsese and company excel

This film requires 3 hours 30 minutes of your time without a break, so maybe watch at home with your pause button, your larder/ fridge and toilet nearby! This is cinematography, editing, flow and sheer watchability at its best.Forget the cgi youthing of the actors, it is unimportant to the story and to the values apparent in this film. That said it is a gangster film, which may not be to everyone's taste, but the quality of the package is brilliant. Oh that we could see such meticulous care in other offerings these days.

Personal Shopper (2016)

Confused, they are..

This item is confused from the beginning, it doesn't know what it is. Is it a psychological thriller or is it a horror film, or shall we write it as we go along and see where it goes? In the end it runs out of ideas, or money or both; disappointing.

Traitors (2019)

This stands alone as a good yarn about spying in post war Britain, the storyline is interesting and the acting throughout is excellent. I am a little surprised at the low ratings it gets but I'm guessing it does not contain the action which many people seem to crave these days. Instead of this, the drama demands your attention and makes the viewer think about the issues it raises. The cynical viewer who wants endless action should watch pieces containing Jason Statham.

The Little Drummer Girl (2018)

Gripping

This series is gripping and challenging from start to to finish. It is slow, determined and deep. The lead actress is not absolutely perfect for the role, but has a very good go at it. Even when a very well known popular actor appears his ascerbic lines and delivery are a wonder to behold, dismissing any disquiet about the reasons for his involvement. This series is definitely not for you if you are addicted to Hollywood blockbuster action or comic book translations. It is for you if you can live through the somtimes painful 6 episodes and be thoroughly entertained. This is under the radar. 9/10
