The Horne Section TV Show (2022)
Delightful and packed with easter eggs
One of few sitcoms that's as good on second and third viewings, because there are so many jokes and references that you won't get them all on the first viewing. It's very Alex Horne, in the best possible way - clever, funny, silly, and quite insightful about power and what it does to people.
If you're familiar with Alex Horne's work, there are a lot of familiar faces and themes. The "Alex Horne" of the show is like a satire version of actual Alex Horne, and he sends himself up brilliantly. All in all, a sweet, delightful show that leaves you feeling happy and will brighten your day. Considering this is a first attempt at acting and scriptwriting, it is impressive. I hope we get more!
Wounds (2019)
Underrated, with excellent performance by Armie Hammer
This isn't so much horror as an allegory spun as a psychological thriller - there is a strong narrative, but it's subtle, and maybe not what you expect if you thought it would be a conventional horror film. Think Lovecraft, Heart of Darkness and Cronenberg, and you get an idea of what you're in for. The movie pretty much hinges on Armie Hammer being able to make his character's descent into darkness interesting and believable, and he pulls it off. As for the ending, it's the logical if very dark conclusion to the narrative. The protagonist is a man who stared into the abyss, and the abyss stared back and liked what it saw. So, definitely worth a watch, but you need to pay attention, or it will probably not make sense. Bears watching more than once.
