1. Things Are Tough All Over (1982)

R | 90 min | Action, Comedy

40 Metascore

Cheech and Chong are hired to drive a limo from Chicago to Las Vegas by two shady Arabs--Mr. Slyman (Cheech) and Prince Habib (Chong). Unbeknownst to them, five million dollars of dirty money has been stuffed throughout the car.

Director: Thomas K. Avildsen | Stars: Toni Attell, Mike Bacarella, Billy Beck, Don Bovingloh

Votes: 3,714 | Gross: $21.13M

This is a very fun movie if you accept it and ride the wave. Obviously it's absurd but it's also absurdly fun if you let it be.

2. Mallrats (1995)

R | 94 min | Comedy, Romance

41 Metascore

Both dumped by their girlfriends, two best friends seek refuge in the local mall.

Director: Kevin Smith | Stars: Shannen Doherty, Jeremy London, Jason Lee, Claire Forlani

Votes: 128,907 | Gross: $2.12M

I always think of this movie whenever I go to the mall now. This movie has it's own distinct comedy with a lot of 90s culture thrown in. It's so unique that words can't do it justice. You just have to see it and you will realize that it is the epitome of this list.

3. The Lion King (1994)

G | 88 min | Animation, Adventure, Drama

88 Metascore

Lion prince Simba and his father are targeted by his bitter uncle, who wants to ascend the throne himself.

Directors: Roger Allers, Rob Minkoff | Stars: Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, James Earl Jones, Whoopi Goldberg

Votes: 1,143,179 | Gross: $422.78M

I think this may be the greatest movie I have ever seen. It loses a lot of it's respect because it's a kids movie but it has so much power. You will embark on an emotional rollercoaster regardless of who you are and it definitely has some magic to it.

4. Adventureland (2009)

R | 107 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance

76 Metascore

In the summer of 1987, a college graduate takes a 'nowhere' job at his local amusement park, only to find it's the perfect course to get him prepared for the real world.

Director: Greg Mottola | Stars: Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Ryan Reynolds, Martin Starr

Votes: 169,220 | Gross: $16.03M

Another nice escapism movie but this time we actually get some character development to go with our comedy. It's a relatively immersive experience though I'd say it's one of the weaker films on the list.

5. Johnny Tsunami (1999 TV Movie)

TV-G | 88 min | Drama, Family, Sport

A Hawaiian teenage surfer shows off his skills when he takes to the snow slopes in Vermont.

Director: Steve Boyum | Stars: Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Brandon Baker, Mary Page Keller, Yuji Okumoto

Votes: 6,110

This is probably the most underrated 90s kids movie you will find. It's a fun ride with a lot of memorable characters. You can't help but be charmed by Cary Tagawa. He probably plays the most likable character I have seen and it really elevates the movie substantially whenever he comes on screen.

6. Crazy Heart (2009)

R | 112 min | Drama, Music, Romance

83 Metascore

A faded country music musician is forced to reassess his dysfunctional life during a doomed romance that also inspires him.

Director: Scott Cooper | Stars: Jeff Bridges, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Colin Farrell, James Keane

Votes: 94,714 | Gross: $39.46M

You wouldn't expect this movie to be as good as it is but the characters and dialogue are so intriguing that you will have no choice but to enjoy it once you start the ride.

7. Ed Wood (1994)

R | 127 min | Biography, Comedy, Drama

71 Metascore

Ambitious but troubled movie director Edward D. Wood Jr. tries his best to fulfill his dreams despite his lack of talent.

Director: Tim Burton | Stars: Johnny Depp, Martin Landau, Sarah Jessica Parker, Patricia Arquette

Votes: 184,038 | Gross: $5.89M

You can't have a unique list without Ed Wood. This movie is very bizarre but very engrossing. It also does a decent job building upon itself to the point where you will have a hard time not seeing it as a classic by the credits.

8. Half Baked (1998)

R | 82 min | Comedy, Crime

16 Metascore

The story of three not so bright men who come up with a series of crazy schemes to get a friend out of jail.

Director: Tamra Davis | Stars: Dave Chappelle, Guillermo Diaz, Jim Breuer, Harland Williams

Votes: 67,854 | Gross: $17.28M

Wait! What? Half-baked? Yes I did that. You don't have to call it a good movie but you can't deny it is fun. The characters are very entertaining and the plot is so wacky that it's memorable.
