1. Breaking Bad (2008–2013)

TV-MA | 45 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller

A chemistry teacher diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer turns to manufacturing and selling methamphetamine with a former student in order to secure his family's future.

Stars: Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, Betsy Brandt

Votes: 2,135,444

This is probably the best show on television currently. Bryan Cranston gives it 100% in every scene and he's never off his mark. Great chemistry between him and his co-star Aaron Paul - their Emmy wins are much deserved.

2. Justified (2010–2015)

TV-MA | 45 min | Action, Crime, Drama

Enforcing his own brand of justice, U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, a strong-willed, quiet law-man haunted by his past, returns to his native town to see that justice is served to those in need.

Stars: Timothy Olyphant, Nick Searcy, Joelle Carter, Jacob Pitts

Votes: 118,648

Timothy Olyphant has such great screen presence and Walton Goggins continues to blow me away. The writing and characters on this show are great.

3. The Chicago Code (2011)

TV-14 | 44 min | Action, Crime, Drama

Detective Jarek Wysocki, one of Chicago's toughest cops, struggles to clean up the town's violence and corruption.

Stars: Jason Clarke, Jennifer Beals, Matt Lauria, Devin Kelley

Votes: 8,481

If you've watched The Shield, you already know Shawn Ryan is a genius. He's done it again - The Chicago Code is the best thing on broadcast television. Superb writing with strong characters and a great cast. I'm especially impressed by Delroy Lindo's acting. Chicago is a pretty beautiful place too and gives it a unique feel.

4. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)

TV-MA | 45 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

Sheriff Deputy Rick Grimes wakes up from a coma to learn the world is in ruins and must lead a group of survivors to stay alive.

Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 1,081,640

You might think that being a zombie show means this is all about action, but it's not. They focus on the characters and it's really good stuff.

5. Man v. Food (2008– )

TV-G | 30 min | Reality-TV

Host Adam Richman (and subsequently Casey Webb) travels around the U.S., taking on a variety of local eating challenges involving meal size, spiciness and other daunting factors.

Stars: Adam Richman, Casey Webb, Gladys Knight, Andrew Zimmern

Votes: 7,430

This dude travels around attempting legendary food challenges from local restaurants, like eating a six pound burrito in 25 minutes or something crazy like that. Most of the times he wins or at least comes close. Amazingly, he is not dead yet.

6. Modern Family (2009–2020)

TV-PG | 22 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance

Three different, but related, families face trials and tribulations in their own uniquely comedic ways.

Stars: Ed O'Neill, Sofía Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell

Votes: 483,327

My favorite comedy on television. The kid actors are kinda hit and miss, but the adults are great.

7. Hawaii Five-0 (2010–2020)

TV-14 | 42 min | Action, Crime, Drama

When Steve McGarrett returns home to Oahu to find his father's killer, the Governor offers him the chance to run his own task force: Five-0.

Stars: Alex O'Loughlin, Scott Caan, Taylor Wily, Daniel Dae Kim

Votes: 78,655

Very strong reboot of the classic series with a great cast, some truly amazing stunt work and fight scenes, beautiful Hawaii scenery, and of course that theme song...

8. Friday Night Lights (2006–2011)

TV-14 | 45 min | Drama, Sport

A drama that follows the lives of the Dillon Panthers, one of the nation's best high school football teams, and their head coach Eric Taylor.

Stars: Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Zach Gilford, Aimee Teegarden

Votes: 72,461

The series finale already aired on Direct TV but the final season is just starting on NBC. Truly an amazing series with great actors all around. You don't even have to like football to enjoy this show.

9. Parenthood (2010–2015)

TV-PG | 60 min | Comedy, Drama

The lives and tragedies of the Braverman family tree.

Stars: Peter Krause, Lauren Graham, Dax Shepard, Monica Potter

Votes: 37,553

From the same man behind Friday Night Lights (Jason Katims) comes the drama Parenthood. I decided to check this out cause several FNL stars like Minka Kelly and the excellent Michael B. Jordan have recurring roles. I'm glad I did. All-around great cast and the situations are real/heavy/emotional.

10. Burn Notice (2007–2013)

TV-PG | 44 min | Action, Crime, Drama

A spy recently disavowed by the U.S. government uses his special ops training to help others in trouble.

Stars: Jeffrey Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar, Bruce Campbell, Sharon Gless

Votes: 79,160

Fun espionage show - I love the voiceover narration giving spy tips. I'm sure most of the tips are made up, but they sound cool at least. Even though the main character is played by Jeffrey Donovan, the real star of the series (for me at least) is Bruce Campbell.

11. Castle (2009–2016)

TV-14 | 43 min | Comedy, Crime, Drama

When a psychopath commits murders based on novelist Castle's books, Detective Beckett seeks his help to solve the case. He decides to work with her and uses his experiences as research for his novels.

Stars: Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic, Susan Sullivan, Jon Huertas

Votes: 174,362

A genuinely funny show with very clever writing. I'm not really into the whole "shipping" thing so I don't think I'll ever get extremely invested like many others are. But it's a consistently entertaining hour of television.

12. Sons of Anarchy (2008–2014)

TV-MA | 45 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller

A biker struggles to balance being a father and being involved in an outlaw motorcycle club.

Stars: Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal, Mark Boone Junior, Kim Coates

Votes: 323,405

Stars: Denis Leary, Michael Lombardi, Steven Pasquale, Andrea Roth

Votes: 27,968

14. Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000–2024)

TV-MA | 30 min | Comedy

Larry David stars as an over-the-top version of himself in this comedy series that shows how seemingly trivial details of day-to-day life can precipitate a catastrophic chain of events.

Stars: Larry David, Cheryl Hines, Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman

Votes: 147,261

An HBO comedy series from the genius behind Seinfeld (Larry David). The cool thing about this show is that there's no strict script to follow and the actors are encouraged to improvise their lines, so it often leads to funny things.

15. Dexter (2006–2013)

TV-MA | 60 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery

He's smart. He's lovable. He's Dexter Morgan, America's favorite serial killer, who spends his days solving crimes and nights committing them.

Stars: Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, David Zayas, James Remar

Votes: 765,731

Never thought I'd watch a show about a serial killer and root for him, but Michael C. Hall is THAT damn good. The villains are usually fantastic too (especially John Lithgow in Season 4) but the rest of the cast is kinda sub-par.

16. Chuck (2007–2012)

TV-14 | 43 min | Action, Comedy, Drama

When a computer geek inadvertently downloads critical government secrets into his brain, both the CIA and the NSA assign an agent to protect him and exploit his newfound skills.

Stars: Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Joshua Gomez, Vik Sahay

Votes: 146,820

This show is pretty much a geeks dream. What I love most about it is the incredible amount of recognizable guest stars - the casting department really does a great job.

17. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2005– )

TV-MA | 22 min | Comedy

Five friends with big egos and small brains are the proprietors of an Irish pub in Philadelphia.

Votes: 188,390
