by cabmhg | created - 26 Mar 2011 | updated - 26 Mar 2011 | Public

This list is for actors who today excel in comedy. Not guys like Eddie Murphy who was hilarious once, yet hasn't been that funny in a few years. This list also doesn't include actors who don't specialize in comedies i.e. tom cruise in tropic thunder ( i don't care if you hate him, les grossman was epic).

1. Zach Galifianakis

Actor | The Hangover

Zach Galifianakis was born in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, to Mary Frances (Cashion), who owned a community arts center, and Harry Galifianakis, a heating oil vendor. His father is of Greek descent and his mother is of mostly English and Scottish ancestry. Zach moved to New York City after failing ...

Take The Hangover away and he's still number one. If you haven't seen Between Two Ferns on Funny or Die, it's the funniest thing ever. Youth in Revolt, his small role in Dinner for Schmucks, Due Date. Holy *beep* He's amazingly funny.

2. Michael Cera

Actor | Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Canadian actor Michael Cera was born in Brampton, Ontario, to parents who worked for Xerox. His mother, Linda, who is from Quebec, has English, Irish, Scottish, and Dutch ancestry, and his father, Luigi Cera, is Italian (from Sicily). Michael is the middle child between two sisters. He was educated...

I don't care how much you love Jesse Eisenberg, Michael Cera is the king of awkward comedy. I loved Zombieland, but I would have rather seen Cera. If you haven't seen Youth in Revolt from a 2009, go see it. Hilarious.

3. Paul Rudd

Actor | Ant-Man

Paul Stephen Rudd was born in Passaic, New Jersey. His parents, Michael and Gloria, both from Jewish families, were born in the London area, U.K. He has one sister, who is three years younger than he is. Paul traveled with his family during his early years, because of his father's airline job at ...

In my opinion the funniest "straight" comedic actor. When people around him are being ridiculous he can pull off the every guy role with perfection. And Anchorman showed he can be ridiculous too.

4. Jack Black

Actor | School of Rock

Thomas Jacob "Jack" Black was born on August 28, 1969 in Santa Monica, California and raised in Hermosa Beach, California to Judith Love Cohen & Thomas William Black, both satellite engineers. He is of Russian Jewish & British-German ancestry. Black attended the University of California at Los ...

Very well could be the best comedic actor of all time in supporting roles. Fails a lot in leading man roles, though.

5. Russell Brand

Producer | Arthur

Russell Brand was born on June 4, 1975, in Grays, Essex, England, the son of Barbara Elizabeth (Nichols) and Ronald Henry Brand, a photographer. An only child, his parents divorced when he was only six months old, and he was subsequently raised by his mother. Enduring a difficult childhood that saw...

I hope he plays Aldous Snow until the day he dies. He was also really funny in that kid flick Bedtime Stories. I think he is just now getting leading man consideration, so he could be higher this time next year.

6. Bill Murray

Actor | Lost in Translation

Bill Murray is an American actor, comedian, and writer. The fifth of nine children, he was born William James Murray in Wilmette, Illinois, to Lucille (Collins), a mailroom clerk, and Edward Joseph Murray II, who sold lumber. He is of Irish descent. Among his siblings are actors Brian Doyle-Murray, ...

I don't care if he's 1000 years old (see pic to the left) but BM is still hilarious. Hands down the best scene of Zombieland, and with hopefully a new Ghostbusters coming out along with several Wes Anderson flicks I don't think he's done being funny.

7. Jason Segel

Actor | Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Multi-talented Jason Jordan Segel was born in Los Angeles, California, where he was raised by his parents, Jillian (Jordan), a homemaker, and Alvin Segel, a lawyer. His mother is of English, Scottish, and Irish ancestry, and his father is of Ashkenazi Jewish descent. He was educated at St. ...

Probably the most underrated guy on the whole list. How I Met Your Mother, basically every Judd Apatow movie and this guy dominates them all. Doin kids movies that I won't watch like The Muppets and Gulliver's Travels and Despicable Me, but I can't wait to see his next adult friendly comedy.

8. Will Ferrell

Producer | Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

John William Ferrell was born in Irvine, California, to Betty Kay (Overman), a teacher, and Roy Lee Ferrell, Jr., a musician. His parents were originally from Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

A graduate of the University of Southern California, Ferrell became interested in performing while a student ...

Probably the funniest dude of the decade with Dave Chappelle. Has fallen off a bit recently, but he still got the goods to be hilarious.

9. Christopher Mintz-Plasse

Actor | Superbad

Christopher Mintz-Plasse is an American actor, drummer and comedian who is widely known for playing McLovin from the hit high school comedy film Superbad. He also played Fishlegs from How to Train Your Dragon, Augie Farcques from Role Models, Giuseppe from Marmaduke, Chris D'Amico from Kick-Ass, ...

C'mon. Superbad, Role Models, Kick-Ass. Not exactly the focal point, but when he's on screen he's hilarious.

10. Steve Carell

Actor | The Office

Steve Carell, one of America's most versatile comics, was born Steven John Carell on August 16, 1962, in Concord, Massachusetts. He is the son of Harriet Theresa (Koch), a psychiatric nurse, and Edwin A. Carell, an electrical engineer. His mother was of Polish descent and his father of Italian and ...

One of the better "dorks" in film history, his departure from The Office should result in more movies. Bring on Anchorman 2 with Brick Tambland!
