Films that have made me cry, regardless of its quality.

WARNING: spoilers in the description. WARNING²: I cry very easily when I watch movies. I can get somewhat carried away... These movies have made me cry, and still make me upset, either for the whole story, for a particular scene, or just the ending. Some of them aren't actually what I'd judge to be good films.

Votes: 352,022 | Gross: $198.54M

Had everything to potentially be a great film, ruined by its cheesy love triangle. However, it does make me sob anytime I see it.

Parts that makes me cry: when Danny (played by Josh Hartnett) dies in his best friend (played by Ben Affleck)'s arms. When the men are drowning, trapped in the USS Arizona, arms reaching out through cracks to the surface.

2. Finding Neverland (2004)

Votes: 212,082 | Gross: $51.68M

Love it. Freddie Highmore at his best.

Parts that make me cry: after mommy Davies' funeral, when JM Barrie sits down next to Peter and talks to him. I starting bawling my eyes out when Peter says "But why did she have to die ?". How can you not with that face ?!

3. Atonement (2007)

R | 123 min | Drama, Mystery, Romance

Votes: 300,048 | Gross: $50.93M

A lot of people mistake it for a cheesy love story. I'd say it has some elements from the thriller genre. The characters are compelling, and the ending unexpected, but brilliant. Just a beautiful film.

Parts that make me cry: the denouement. I hadn't read the book, so it was the last thing I expected. I felt so much for Robbie, and the fact that he died and suffered because of a crime he hadn't committed broke my heart.

4. Bridge to Terabithia (2007)

74 Metascore

Director: Gabor Csupo | Stars: Josh Hutcherson, AnnaSophia Robb, Zooey Deschanel, Robert Patrick

Votes: 173,444 | Gross: $82.27M

The last time I saw it was when it was in theaters, but it's the kind of movie that never leaves you. I expected to see a kids' movie, and ended up being more affected than I thought I would. I hadn't read the book and knew nothing about it. Very misleading.

Parts that make me cry: strangely enough, I didn't cry when the boy's father tells him his girl friend had died, but I was definitely shocked. I did sob like a baby when the boy finally breaks down in his father's arms. The fact that they didn't get along at all definitely added to the emotion.

Votes: 142,174 | Gross: $1.60M

Saw it again recently, having no memories of it watching it as a child.

Parts that make me cry: Oh come on, who wouldn't cry at the part where mommy elephant cradles Dumbo through cage bars with her trunk, and he cries gigantic tears ?!

6. Little White Lies (2010)

Not Rated | 154 min | Comedy, Drama

50 Metascore

A near-fatal accident leaves one friend in the hospital while the rest go on their annual vacation. But their secrets and personal grief threaten to drive them apart.

Director: Guillaume Canet | Stars: François Cluzet, Marion Cotillard, Benoît Magimel, Jean Dujardin

Votes: 27,022 | Gross: $0.21M

This movie makes you go from tears of laughter to tears of sadness. It's about a group of old friends reuniting each year for a month of vacation at one's beach house. That year, one of them (played by Jean Dujardin, seen in The Artist) has a motorcycle accident, which leaves him stranded on a hospital bed and prevents him from going on vacation with them. They decide to go without him anyway (including his girlfriend played by Marion Cotillard) for two weeks instead of four.

Parts that make me cry: at the end, when the oldest friend calls them out, tired of all their littles lies and hiding things from one another and having learnt that the one they left behind died alone on his hospital bed. You feel for all of them, all so furious at themselves for deciding to leave him to die alone just to enjoy their holiday. They never thought it would happen, and you never believe death until it happens to someone around you.

Votes: 493,122 | Gross: $169.71M

Loved it, Jessica Chastain shines in this.

Parts that made me cry: The whole Constantine story. It's that "oh no" situation.

8. Wicker Park (2004)

PG-13 | 114 min | Drama, Mystery, Romance

40 Metascore

Director: Paul McGuigan | Stars: Josh Hartnett, Diane Kruger, Matthew Lillard, Rose Byrne

Votes: 58,650 | Gross: $12.83M

Parts that made me cry: the very end. This movie makes you as desperate as the guy, who's restlessly searching for his lost love. When he finally sees her at the airport, bent down amidst the crowd, you feel just as overwhelmed as he is. Cherry on top: The Scientist by Coldplay starts to play just as the scene starts. Her disbelief when she sees him bent down behind her is just as touching.

9. Four Brothers (2005)

Really not my kind of movie, but I surprisingly loved it.

Parts that made me cry: when Jack dies. Oh man oh man, I was a mess.

10. Moulin Rouge! (2001)

Parts that made me cry: not when Satine actually dies, but when it cuts back to what's left of Christian's broken soul.

Director: Roman Polanski | Stars: Adrien Brody, Thomas Kretschmann, Frank Finlay, Emilia Fox

Votes: 913,243 | Gross: $32.57M

Superb. Adrien Brody is just stunning in this.

Parts that made me cry: when a boy is beaten to death trying to go under the wall that separates the ghetto from the city.

12. War Horse (2011)

PG-13 | 146 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

72 Metascore

A young farm boy enlists to serve in World War I after his beloved horse is sold to the cavalry. His hopeful journey takes him out of England and onto the front lines as the war rages on.

Director: Steven Spielberg | Stars: Jeremy Irvine, Emily Watson, David Thewlis, Benedict Cumberbatch

Votes: 165,686 | Gross: $79.88M

I saw this without really knowing much about it. I expected to see a kids film, to be honest. However, I absolutely loved it, and I was very surprised and ecstatic when Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch appeared on screen. Jeremy Irvine was very touching as the boy who would do anything to reunite with his horse again. Visually stunning, I don't know if the fact that I adored the movie is because I had quite low expectations or because I genuinely thought it was good. It felt like an old Spielberg film, its feeling is very close to Empire of the Sun. I'd watch anything related to WWI anyway, especially when Spielberg's behind the camera.

Parts that made me cry: let's just say I was a mess throughout the whole film. I was practically choking up during it all. The reunion destroyed me; the snow, Joey almost getting put down, the whistling heard off-screen and Joey's reaction, the soldiers making a path and helping blind Albert to his treasured friend... ah !
