How Soon is Now
by TheInbetweener | created - 26 Jun 2013 | updated - 25 Feb 2023 | PublicThe films I want to see now, for innumerable and often unjustifiable reasons. Now. Before I leave my cave, and I'm always in the light, the harsh stripping light of day and mediocrity and meaningless action. I'm no Little Woman, but sometimes in this solitary paralysis, in the ripe dark, with star or screen light to illuminate my existential frenzies...something like a film can make the whole world a wonder, can change my life. For an hour. A day. How sad is Now.

Season 3. Omgods, have to watch it on clicktoview. Celeste refuses to get out of her house to see us, and thus download and pass the season to us. Too good to wait. Plus, the tv downstairs give me eyeache. I FEEL LIKE AN OLD WOMAN!!! and I'm talking to myself too. I might as well go to a stone basin of water and splash my haggard old mumbling reflection in anger.

Finally finished season 3. Only since moving out of home have I been able to appreciate its majesty, and despite the flaws, AND THEY ARE NUMEROUS, such as the ludicrous plot contrivance of throwing two unrelated characters together to talk and join forces, and the cheesy gratuitous sex, and the way they are becoming less and less uncompromising and true to the book, in order to be Blockbuster. Arya is perfect; Sansa is exactly as annoying as in the book; Tyrion is even better somehow; Cersei is less beautiful but more charismatic; Ser Jamie is a demigod; Roose Bolton is breathed into, as is the Bolton Bastard; Theon's sister is my spirit guide; The Hound is to die for; Robb is satisfyingly colorless; Catelyn Stark is magnificent and heart-rending; Jon is puffier than he should be but engagingly intense; Ygritte is a triumph, a fascinating creetur unlike her infuriating literary counterpart; Lord Tywin is sex, just like in the book; Stannis, Shae, Jorah, so many are just so much better on the screen.
The Red Wedding had me convulsing. I actually moaned with the horror of it. One of the most horrific and tragic things I've ever seen.

Watching this in kev's room, sitting cross-legged on the pockmarked carpet in the golden Shire sunlight flooding through the iridescent lime-green trees outside and into the room. Some magic in here, ever since we got sick and started our enforced yet paid holidays. The past everywhere with us. Soaking it up. Breathing different air. Somehow freed of chains we didn't feel until they inexplicably fell off. How can a cough and a temperature summon the past back until all the cold restricted intervening years just melt off? Or is it being alone, knowing we're left alone for almost a week, and the bittersweet familiarity of solitude - our natural habitat? Is it just being re-requited with what celeste calls 'guilt-free laziness' that triggers a sense of comfort, security, identity - home? is it also the ibupromax, the late nights and later mornings, the lack of stimulants?
Whatever it is, I don't want it to stop. Too often at work I am in the vise of a sick, lost paranoia and confusion; to be concluded with the restrained estrangement of coming home, faintly lobotomised by the meaningless labour yet stubbornly in denial of it, Celeste tight and tired...
