Magnificent films the Academy should be ashamed of Ignoring....

by SausagePourVous | created - 23 Jul 2017 | updated - 28 Jul 2017 | Public

A lot of the times the Oscarvoters get stuff right,we the audience often agree with several of their picks but naturally....And frustratingly, there are years where they are way off base, marginalizing films we love all together or in major or what feels like obvious categories, voting like what Cinephiles refer to as..."real dummies".

I do not pretend to speak for the People here but here are a bunch of great movies the Academy should've showed more love....This is a work in progress and forgive me my limited vocabulary. Me no native,brother...

1. Prisoners (2013)

R | 153 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery

70 Metascore

When Keller Dover's daughter and her friend go missing, he takes matters into his own hands as the police pursue multiple leads and the pressure mounts.

Director: Denis Villeneuve | Stars: Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Melissa Leo

Votes: 810,197 | Gross: $61.00M

Morally complex, haunting dramathriller with superb performances from a dreamensemble. A work running over with angst, parental horror and reflection on the effectiveness and toll on the soul that comes from torture with a labyrinthine plot, the script has several smart red herrings in it,Ones of actual meaning to the story and not just windowdressing. Ranked 220 on top 250 now,one of the few that keep climbing. It was ignored by everyone more or less, the academy gave Prisoners and Deakins a pitynomination....

The story is fiction, maybe slightly out there but the suspense, all the emotions are very real and Gyllenhaals focused detective Loki with tics and all was worthy of a nom, along with the film, directing, editing and script. One of the best films of this decade. Bad Academy!! Very bad....

2. The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)

R | 139 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller

76 Metascore

In late 1950s New York, a young underachiever named Tom Ripley is sent to Italy to retrieve Dickie Greenleaf, a rich and spoiled millionaire playboy. But when the errand fails, Ripley takes extreme measures.

Director: Anthony Minghella | Stars: Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Cate Blanchett

Votes: 243,622 | Gross: $81.30M

Some Oscarnominations are just bizarre or seem illfitting,Especially when concidering a films snubs....I mean, nommed for production design? Sorry,ART DIRECTIOOONN!! If you say so...

Globe-nommed for best picture, ldirector and Leading actor plus BAFTA-nommed for picture, director, cinematography etc...and even if this film goes on for 15 minutes too Long and the loss of alot of energy after the sadly by all revealed twist one hour in isnt flawless,it still has so many superb ingredients;Damon is insecure, creepy, deranged, you really buy his unsettling performance, the glasses really sells it. Imo,his second best,if not his finest your(Not nommed)....

Law,charismatic, manic and perfect,he,along with Cruise and late, great Duncan should tangle for Supporting Actor, though he won the Bafta. Yareds psychotic lullaby-Score was robbed. Seals lovely, colorful cinematography(not nommed)frames the upcoming horror through subtle foreshadowing, the unsettling mood is in sharp contrast to the mesmerizing, seductive shots of 50's Italy. Picture and director(Not nommed)?

Come on,first off, this was Minghellas finest hour, not The snoozing patient,second...Magnolia and this one destroys my follow Swedes work, the generic hack Lasse Hallström. He can sadly go fu-- himself with his Hallmark, corny and passionless The Cider Ass Juice.

3. Rush (I) (2013)

R | 123 min | Action, Biography, Drama

74 Metascore

The merciless 1970s rivalry between Formula One rivals James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

Director: Ron Howard | Stars: Daniel Brühl, Chris Hemsworth, Olivia Wilde, Alexandra Maria Lara

Votes: 513,967 | Gross: $26.95M

I'm not really a Ron Howard admirer persay, though he has his moments...but the Academy sure is. His Apollo 13,Cinderella man,A beautiful mind and Frost/Nixon have 25 Nominations combined,of which six resulted in Oscarwins.

And while I am no fan of Formula 1,this film sure is wellmade on every technical level and wellacted, strongest displayed by a transformed SAG-nominated Daniel Bruhl as disciplined, arrogant Nikki Lauda.

Golden globe nominated for best Picture and Supporting actor,Bafta-winner for Best editing etc, recognized in different and several categories all over....yet the Academy COMPLETELY ignored it on every level, even the great sound,Editing, cinematography, zero nods....Poor judgment or what? I get that the sport is not everyones cup of Tea but superb craftsmanship is just that and should be recognized on some level.

4. The Hateful Eight (2015)

R | 168 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery

68 Metascore

In the dead of a Wyoming winter, a bounty hunter and his prisoner find shelter in a cabin currently inhabited by a collection of nefarious characters.

Director: Quentin Tarantino | Stars: Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins

Votes: 660,267 | Gross: $54.12M

Tarantino stays away from pretensions but not excess in this Extremely entertaining film,a wellstructured and bold screenplay that doesnt overplay its hand and try to be too clever,it just has fun with the genre, which is eh...a whodunnit western in a claustrophic, singular setting...and the N-word is used very frequent.

Having given Tarantino an Oscar for his Django Screenplay a few years earlier, alotta voters now went Oops as they faced a petty, unprofessional and somewhat unmotivated wrath and realizing no actors of colour would be recognized,to make up and compensate nominated a film in which that very word is used even more but in a"more positive, nondiscriminate and empowered" way by its protagonists if you Will...

Sleeper hit Straight outta Compton got the Original Screenplay nod despite the film not getting one Anywhere more or less and Hateful getting that nod from Everyone EXCEPT the Oscarguys....right,that makes sense.

I would also nom the film....not the editing though,if the editor had any influence on the films length that is. 20 minutes shorter and it would be a brilliant masterpiece,as it stands,it is a great, wellcrafted western filled with tension and great acting.

5. Reservoir Dogs (1992)

R | 99 min | Crime, Thriller

81 Metascore

When a simple jewelry heist goes horribly wrong, the surviving criminals begin to suspect that one of them is a police informant.

Director: Quentin Tarantino | Stars: Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Chris Penn

Votes: 1,088,773 | Gross: $2.83M

Not officially snubbed, fine, not up för much...but still QT's Most intense,tic-Free and least selfindulgent Movie. Picture, director,Supporting actor (Michael"Without a real reason I pissed it all Away"Madsen) Screenplay and editing, all worthy components,as is the dynamite cast.

Sardonic, bloodsoaked Caper-gone-wrong with brutal but not gory violence thats in service of the story, none of his later squirting fetisch shi- in this one....And the non-chronological gimmick made sense, intrigued and hadn't worn out its welcme.

6. A Very Long Engagement (2004)

R | 133 min | Drama, Mystery, Romance

76 Metascore

Tells the story of a young woman's relentless search for her fiancé, who has disappeared from the trenches of the Somme during World War One.

Director: Jean-Pierre Jeunet | Stars: Audrey Tautou, Gaspard Ulliel, Jodie Foster, Dominique Pinon

Votes: 75,963 | Gross: $6.17M

A Beautiful, odd film, both somber and quirky...Wellearned nods for Cinematography and Production design but the Academy missed that one nom basically NO ONE ELSE missed....the one for Best foreign Language film,duuh....throw in Editing and visual effects while we're at it.

I am usually not especially up for romance but that is partially cause so few directors have a vision all of their own that they execute with the right touch, right mix of originality and melodrama....Visual splendor doesn't exactly hurt either.

Plus, this is not just romance, its also a brutal warstory sprinkled with dark humour and a mystery/detective yarn wrapped in warmth and whimsy. Jeunet really made a wonderful work of art here....

7. Sleepers (1996)

R | 147 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller

49 Metascore

After a prank goes disastrously wrong, a group of boys are sent to a detention center where they are brutalized. Thirteen years later, an unexpected random encounter with a former guard gives them a chance for revenge.

Director: Barry Levinson | Stars: Robert De Niro, Kevin Bacon, Brad Pitt, Jason Patric

Votes: 237,652 | Gross: $49.10M

I am SO Fu--in' sick of John Williams. What is it,45 nominations for score, five for song? 45,thats absurd! Right? Like any person in the WORLD can be deserving of even 30 noms...his trademark dramascore was up for an Oscar,God knows why. Its okay,i guess but far from this films best asset.

The so called"Based on a true story" Screenplay got Into controversy regarding its authenticity...But besides having a dilemma with which screenplay category to put it in and one, gigantic plothole,it is a strong, tripping thriller about youth stolen and the fleeting, short satisfaction of restoring ones self of sense, hoping in vain it might change the past if your revenge is righteous.

The confrontation between two of the abused boys, nowviolent gangleaders played by Ron Eldard and Billy Crudup and the sadistic, sick prisonguard portrayed with depraved, arrogant glee by a nominationworthy Bacon...Damn,that scene alone is worth it. Superb ensemble, too many to mention,except...DeNiro,Hoffman,Pitt,Jason Patric,Minjie Driver,Vittorio Gassman, late Bruno Kirby and late Brad Renfro....

Picture, director, screenplay and editing ,All so rediculously Oscarworthy,it is as powerful today as 21 years ago.

8. Silence (I) (2016)

9. You Can Count on Me (2000)

Director: Kenneth Lonergan | Stars: Laura Linney, Matthew Broderick, Amy Ryan, Michael Countryman

Votes: 31,429 | Gross: $9.18M

Ruffalo is so God damn superb here, his snub delayed his breakthrough...I would like to Tell myself it was due to the dizzy voters not knowing which category to put him in but sadly, that would be horseshi-. A best picture nom would not be insane at all, underrated feelgood flick filled with with superb acting, optimism and heart.

10. Carol (2015)

R | 118 min | Drama, Romance

94 Metascore

An aspiring photographer develops an intimate relationship with an older woman in 1950s New York.

Director: Todd Haynes | Stars: Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Sarah Paulson, Kyle Chandler

Votes: 142,445 | Gross: $12.71M

Nominated in basically the whole world in all major categories....come Oscartime, the picture, the directing and screenplay plus great production design was ignored and it suddenly seemed like Mara and Blanchett got wellearned nominations outta pity. Mature film some can experience as tedious...I understand the sentiment but do not agree.

11. The Last Samurai (2003)

R | 154 min | Action, Drama

55 Metascore

Nathan Algren, a US army veteran, is hired by the Japanese emperor to train his army in the modern warfare techniques. Nathan finds himself trapped in a struggle between two eras and two worlds.

Director: Edward Zwick | Stars: Tom Cruise, Ken Watanabe, Billy Connolly, William Atherton

Votes: 471,394 | Gross: $111.11M

Rewatched it last week. It is 14 years old and looks better then most films ever will while it has the real feel of a timeless Epic.Generic plot? Sure,somewhat...but that is beside the Point. This is about all the pieces coming together in perfect symbios, from acting to editing to costume....I call malarky on 66% at RT,entitled to our opinions as we May be. Zwick was Never remotely close to being in talks for an Oscar-nom but his work here is sentimental, unapologetic, focused, brutal, its his own creation while paying homage to the great Epics of yesterday in every frame.

Only noms for the magnetic Watanabe, costume design, production design and sound Mixing....Nah. In the End it Borders on disgrace for me,Zimmers Globe-nommed majestic score,John Tolls beautiful cinematography, tje editing, sound editing, all obvious snubs....plus,I include my personal one;Zwick for best Director. I certainly prefer his passionate effort here to Coppola and Weirs work on pretentous, tonedeaf Lost in translation and suspensefree snoozefest Master and commander, respectively.

12. Rob Roy (1995)

R | 139 min | Adventure, Biography, Drama

55 Metascore

In 1713 Scotland, Rob Roy MacGregor is wronged by a nobleman and his nephew, becomes an outlaw in search of revenge while fleeing the Redcoats, and faces charges of being a Jacobite.

Director: Michael Caton-Jones | Stars: Liam Neeson, Jessica Lange, John Hurt, Tim Roth

Votes: 45,699 | Gross: $31.60M

Tim Roths effeminate, pompous and extremely lethal and paychotic villain was nominated. I agree alot there...that being said, this film was somewhat Robbed (Very witty pun in the oppositeworld, right?)by the Academy and a film in 1995 about a scottish hero centuries ago standing up to the cruel english,hmm,Okay....Well,it might have rung some bells a råd too soon.

Still,Neeson is superb, worthy of a nod and costume and production design,Carter Burwells Score, all things ignored by the whole world...Damen,Only 6.9? Harsh....Guys,it might not be flawless but it is great oldfashioned entertainment of the kind no longer created.

13. Things We Lost in the Fire (2007)

R | 118 min | Drama

63 Metascore

A recent widow invites her husband's troubled best friend to live with her and her two children. As he gradually turns his life around, he helps the family cope and confront their loss.

Director: Susanne Bier | Stars: Halle Berry, Benicio Del Toro, Alison Lohman, David Duchovny

Votes: 29,783 | Gross: $3.29M

Men and women are sadly judged and rewarded based on different standards. A great role in a mediocre film can give ladies noms or even Wins (Streeps win for the painfully drab Iron Lady and its 53% at RT might been the most illogical and unfair Oscar ever given to an actress...she certainly deserved a third, for Doubt or others, sad to punish the other actresses in her category),while men (Tucci in the Lovely Bones not withstanding) usually get nominated for strong turns if the film as a whole is a critical success.

This Little gem landed somewhere in the middle between decent and great at 65%,although most critics praised Del Toros eccentric, authentic performance, predicting Oscarglory...And were in awe of the fact that Berry once Again could deliver a performance that wasn't at all disgraceful complete horseshi-...

All the while, none of his praisers predicting a nom nominated him in any critic Awards at all,the man did not get a single nomination anywhere. Watch his work here as a worn down but caring and perceptive heroine addict and tell me it doesn't beat or is atleast on par with both Mortensens, Depps,Jones' and Clooneys performances of 2008. Day-Lewis was untouchable to the world,of Course...But not Entirely to me. Most overlooked role of the 2000's....Okay,one of them atleast.

14. American Gangster (2007)

R | 157 min | Biography, Crime, Drama

76 Metascore

An outcast New York City cop is charged with bringing down Harlem drug lord Frank Lucas, whose real life inspired this partly biographical film.

Director: Ridley Scott | Stars: Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Josh Brolin

Votes: 452,712 | Gross: $130.16M

Josh Brolin getting completely ignored by the ENTIRE WORLD for his despicable, machoTrupo and more notably, his great work in No country for Old men is enfuriating,a debate for Another Day and sadly his subtle, effective work the following year in Milk earned him a nomination that can seen as compensation through cynical Eyes.

This film was Globe-nommed for Picture, director and Actor,Bafta-nommed in five categories, including Screenplay and editing and ended up with two at the Oscars; One for Ruby Dee for her services to film,Not This film and one of those bizarre noms;for Production design. What, hehe? I think its a great, intense, focused flick with one of the best casts ever, although no flawless masterpiece maybe, the climax has issues. I would nominate Scott for directing,Denzel,Brolin for supporting actor(I am alone here,i know I do Not give a shi-)and the editing.

15. The Day of the Jackal (1973)

PG | 143 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller

80 Metascore

In the aftermath of France allowing Algeria's independence, a group of resentful military veterans hire a professional assassin codenamed "Jackal" to kill President Charles de Gaulle.

Director: Fred Zinnemann | Stars: Edward Fox, Terence Alexander, Michel Auclair, Alan Badel

Votes: 44,951 | Gross: $16.06M

Its Globe and BAFTA-nominations for Best picture, director and in several other categories didnt transform to more than one measly nomination from the Academy, for Editing. Welldeserved yes....but this intense thriller has stood the test of time,a gripping, almost documentarian procedural that deserved more than that....

16. Barton Fink (1991)

R | 116 min | Comedy, Drama, Thriller

69 Metascore

A renowned New York playwright is enticed to California to write for the movies and discovers the hellish truth of Hollywood.

Directors: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen | Stars: John Turturro, John Goodman, Judy Davis, Michael Lerner

Votes: 129,009 | Gross: $6.15M

It is not that the film didnt deserve three Oscarnoms,it did and a few more IMO...it was the nominations themselves,Lerner and not also/or John Goodman in the second best turn of his career, though Globe-nommed for Best Supporting actor. Also up for production and costume design, all Good and well...But not Picture, director, not the subversive,meta-influenced screenplay, sadly neither Deakins cinematography that won the National Society of film critics Award. So snubbed, yes,Its Oscarnominations does not represent the films greatest assets.

17. Miller's Crossing (1990)

R | 115 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller

66 Metascore

Tom Reagan, an advisor to a Prohibition-era crime boss, tries to keep the peace between warring mobs but gets caught in divided loyalties.

Directors: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen | Stars: Gabriel Byrne, Albert Finney, John Turturro, Marcia Gay Harden

Votes: 142,192 | Gross: $5.08M

A disgrace, this is...Not a single nom for this masterpiece. Original Screenplay, editing,Cinematography, production design, those feel like the bare minimum...but not one nom.

18. Nocturnal Animals (2016)

R | 116 min | Drama, Thriller

67 Metascore

A wealthy art gallery owner is haunted by her ex-husband's novel, a violent thriller she interprets as a symbolic revenge tale.

Director: Tom Ford | Stars: Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson

Votes: 304,825 | Gross: $10.66M

Weirdly enough not mentioned among the snubs of 2017,despite 3 Golden globe-noms,3 from BCCA Awards and 9 from BAFTA for director, leading actor, supporting actor, screenplay, score, editing etc....It did well on the circuit but only ended up with a single nom,one neither recognised by BAFTA or the Golden globes...,though not that unexpected,a bit from left field;Michael Shannons intense, supporting turn. Divisive film to be sure but even haters have to admit the Score and cinematography are of the highest order. Personally,i would also nominate the film, the too often ignored Gyllenhaal and the screenplay.

19. The Terminator (1984)

R | 107 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

84 Metascore

A human soldier is sent from 2029 to 1984 to stop an almost indestructible cyborg killing machine, sent from the same year, which has been programmed to execute a young woman whose unborn son is the key to humanity's future salvation.

Director: James Cameron | Stars: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn, Paul Winfield

Votes: 924,702 | Gross: $38.40M

Despite being such an accomplished work on so many levels, not a single nod for this awesome flick, one that always felt a bit ahead of its time....

20. Cold Mountain (2003)

R | 154 min | Adventure, Drama, Romance

73 Metascore

In the waning days of the American Civil War, a wounded soldier embarks on a perilous journey back home to Cold Mountain, North Carolina to reunite with his sweetheart.

Director: Anthony Minghella | Stars: Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Renée Zellweger, Eileen Atkins

Votes: 156,132 | Gross: $95.64M

I think it deserved a best Picture nom, along with one for Kidman in what might be my favorite role from her apart from Moulin Rouge.

21. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991)

PG-13 | 143 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

51 Metascore

Robin Hood decides to fight back as an outlaw when faced with the tyranny of the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Director: Kevin Reynolds | Stars: Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Christian Slater

Votes: 208,482 | Gross: $165.50M

No masterpiece but good entertainment and the late, great Rickman won a BAFTA for his great, funny and slimy supporting turn as the sheriff....he was sadly ignored by the Academy,Along with the score, producton and costume design.

22. Casino (1995)

R | 178 min | Crime, Drama

73 Metascore

In Las Vegas, two best friends - a casino executive and a mafia enforcer - compete for a gambling empire and a fast-living, fast-loving socialite.

Director: Martin Scorsese | Stars: Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone, Joe Pesci, James Woods

Votes: 564,337 | Gross: $42.44M

The structure and grasp and setting is a bit too reminscent of Goodfellas to be a masterpiece but it is a brilliant film for the Most part and that is thanks to Scorseces energetic, focused directing, the Editing plus lush cinematography, all ignored. Stone got a welldeserved one though...

23. Reign Over Me (2007)

R | 124 min | Drama

61 Metascore

A man who lost his family in the September 11 attack on New York City runs into his old college roommate. Rekindling the friendship is the one thing that appears able to help the man recover from his grief.

Director: Mike Binder | Stars: Adam Sandler, Don Cheadle, Jada Pinkett Smith, Liv Tyler

Votes: 99,619 | Gross: $19.66M

Adam Sandler has been a crappy comedian for the last 15 years and it is unlikely he Will ever be Good again...here though,he is tragically superb in a drama,no less...The kinda role some Actors get once in a lifetime. Not officially snubbed but his acting and the humane, fun, devestating screenplay deserved noms IMO.

24. A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)

PG-13 | 146 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

65 Metascore

A highly advanced robotic boy longs to become "real" so that he can regain the love of his human mother.

Director: Steven Spielberg | Stars: Haley Joel Osment, Jude Law, Frances O'Connor, Sam Robards

Votes: 323,162 | Gross: $78.62M

Golden Globe-nommed for director, supporting actor and score. Sadly only Oscarnommed for score and visual effects. An underrated, original and passionate effort by Spielberg and taking Kubricks story and creating something that feels like a welloiled hybrid between opposite worldviews and sensibilities impressed me...I would give A.I those 5 noms plus for the production design and sound.

25. Magnolia (1999)

R | 188 min | Drama

78 Metascore

An epic mosaic of interrelated characters in search of love, forgiveness and meaning in the San Fernando Valley.

Director: Paul Thomas Anderson | Stars: Tom Cruise, Jason Robards, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman

Votes: 328,632 | Gross: $22.46M

One of my top 15 films of all time so forgive me for thinking it was robbed despite three noms...Picture,director,Editing,cinematography,Score,Supporting actress (Both Walters and Moore are wonderful) and Robards and Reilly both worthy of supporting noms....huge robbery.

26. Boogie Nights (1997)

Votes: 282,193 | Gross: $26.40M

Extremely deserving of noms for Picture, directing and editing besides the Ones it got.

27. Sin City (2005)

R | 124 min | Crime, Thriller

74 Metascore

An exploration of the dark and miserable Basin City and three of its residents, all of whom are caught up in violent corruption.

Directors: Frank Miller, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez | Stars: Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba

Votes: 793,989 | Gross: $74.10M

A milestone,a work of pure art so bold, bizarre and original, trying to dublicate it is pointless,as time has proven.....And in my cinematic universe Director,Supporting Actor, editing, cinematography,Visual effects and make-up felt and still feels like sure things....Aaaannnd the film recieved Zero nominations. Brilliant voting there...Ya freakin' dinosaurs!

28. Sicario (2015)

R | 121 min | Action, Crime, Drama

82 Metascore

An idealistic FBI agent is enlisted by a government task force to aid in the escalating war against drugs at the border area between the U.S. and Mexico.

Director: Denis Villeneuve | Stars: Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro, Jon Bernthal

Votes: 477,112 | Gross: $46.89M

The Academy should stick to either 5 or 10 Best Picture nominees, the voting system seems overtly complex and unneccessary. This dreadfilled, bleak thriller of the highest order might be a film that is a bit divisive and with its 14 wins and 146 nominations has the worst win to nom-Ratio I've ever seen but still....Broadcast critic choice Award nominated for Best picture,a nom it got from half the award circuit,Del Toro was Bafta-nommed(Both Del Toro and Oscar Isaac deserved the nod Bale must have bought...He was nommed by the heavies and like, not by A single One of the 25 associations on the circuit. The nom for his miscalculated, forced turn smelt a little fishy)and won several awards...

Sure,it was a competive year and I Guess I can accept the absence of director and screenplay noms but besides the Three it got,I strongly feel noms for Picture,Supporting Actor,Editing and sound mixing where both deserved and maybe indicated.

29. Memento (2000)

R | 113 min | Mystery, Thriller

83 Metascore

A man with short-term memory loss attempts to track down his wife's murderer.

Director: Christopher Nolan | Stars: Guy Pearce, Carrie-Anne Moss, Joe Pantoliano, Mark Boone Junior

Votes: 1,323,576 | Gross: $25.54M

What can one say? One of the strongest, most innovative and mindfu---ing thrillers ever made.Small scope, trancendent scope. Very deserving of its script and editing noms but no win and Picture, director, Leading Actor and Supporting Actor; All sadly ignored. Personally,I would not nom Moss, though.

30. The Prestige (2006)

PG-13 | 130 min | Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi

66 Metascore

After a tragic accident, two stage magicians in 1890s London engage in a battle to create the ultimate illusion while sacrificing everything they have to outwit each other.

Director: Christopher Nolan | Stars: Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johansson, Michael Caine

Votes: 1,442,016 | Gross: $53.09M

I worship this screenplay,so diabolical, symbolic and complex, yet pretty free of plotholes. Picture, directing,Editing,Score and costume design also ignored.

Director: Vadim Perelman | Stars: Jennifer Connelly, Ben Kingsley, Ron Eldard, Frances Fisher

Votes: 72,620 | Gross: $13.01M

There's something so powerful and ambigous about this depressing drama. Broadcast Critics choice Award-nominated Connelly was ignored,as was the Screenplay and the Picture itself. The nomination for best score however, makes no God damn sense, either from a personal or statistical perspective.

32. Requiem for a Dream (2000)

R | 102 min | Drama

71 Metascore

The drug-induced utopias of four Coney Island people are shattered when their addictions run deep..

Director: Darren Aronofsky | Stars: Ellen Burstyn, Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly, Marlon Wayans

Burstyn is awesome and was nominated. This masterpiece however also deserved recognition for its directing,Score,Editing and especially cinematography.
