Director: Stuart Rosenberg | Stars: James Brolin, Margot Kidder, Rod Steiger, Don Stroud

Votes: 44,623 | Gross: $86.43M

8 out of 10 stars. Excellent acting and terrific directing, it makes it seem like the actual true story. A bit long, but not too bad, worth a couple watches.

2. Amityville II: The Possession (1982)

34 Metascore

Director: Damiano Damiani | Stars: James Olson, Burt Young, Rutanya Alda, Jack Magner

Votes: 12,869 | Gross: $12.53M

5 out of 10 stars. A good sequel, but not great. I find it's a bit boring and has a lack of a good scare unlike its prequel.

3. Amityville 3-D (1983)

PG | 105 min | Horror

28 Metascore

A reporter moves into the Amityville house in defiance of the supernatural events connected to it, and finds everyone around him besieged by the evil manifestations which are connected to a demonic presence in the basement.

Director: Richard Fleischer | Stars: Tony Roberts, Tess Harper, Robert Joy, Candy Clark

Votes: 7,530 | Gross: $6.33M

1 out of 10 stars. Boring, long-seeming, stupid, scratch that, AWFUL. The acting isn't bad, which is why it has *1* star. It could have had 5 if the plot was actually good. I watched this in theaters and GOD! The 3-D was worst than the whole movie!

4. Amityville Horror: The Evil Escapes (1989 TV Movie)

R | 95 min | Horror

The demonic forces in the Amityville house transfer to an ancient lamp, which finds its way to a remote California mansion where the evil manipulates a little girl by manifesting itself in the form of her dead father.

Director: Sandor Stern | Stars: Patty Duke, Jane Wyatt, Fredric Lehne, Lou Hancock

Votes: 3,503

3 out of 10 stars. After watching number 3, why did I watch this one? No clue. The cast is pretty cheesy, and so are the special effects, but the plot itself was pretty good. Also, very short, seems like 30 minutes (well, except for the first 10 minutes.)

5. The Amityville Curse (1990 Video)

R | 91 min | Horror

Five people spend the night in an abandoned house, an Amityville haunted house, and soon find themselves terrorized by assorted ghosts, venomous insects and ghostly apparitions.

Director: Tom Berry | Stars: Kim Coates, Dawna Wightman, Helen Hughes, David Stein

Votes: 2,471

2 out of 10 stars. Stupid plot, so-so acting, old special effects, and uninteresting for EVERYONE. But still better than 3.

6. Amityville 1992: It's About Time (1992 Video)

R | 95 min | Horror

An architect brings home a mysterious old clock, not knowing that it's haunted by the demonic presence of the Amityville house. Soon, the clock begins to alter time and space and starts to possess members of the household.

Director: Tony Randel | Stars: Stephen Macht, Shawn Weatherly, Megan Ward, Damon Martin

Votes: 3,456

4 out of 10 stars. Almost the exact same movie as Evil Escapes, but instead of a lamp, it's a clock. Not bad, good acting, good plot, but still cheesy.

7. Amityville: A New Generation (1993 Video)

R | 91 min | Horror

An old mirror from the Amityville house finds its way into a young photographer's home, where the demonic presence soon manifests itself to cause more death and mayhem.

Director: John Murlowski | Stars: Ross Partridge, Julia Nickson, Lala Sloatman, David Naughton

Votes: 2,484

2 out of 10 stars. Same as its prequel and Evil Escapes, plus it's acting sucks, and it might be the cheesiest of the series. But the plot seems okay.

8. Amityville Dollhouse (1996 Video)

R | 97 min | Horror

A children's doll house, which is a miniature of the infamous haunted Long Island house, is given to a young girl where the demonic evil soon comes out to cause more terror.

Director: Steve White | Stars: Robin Thomas, Starr Andreeff, Allen Cutler, Rachel Duncan

Votes: 2,981

4 out of 10 stars. Smart, different, and new plot (this was preceded by the exact same movie times 3), the cheesy is still there, and it's an okay cast.

9. The Amityville Horror (2005)

Votes: 117,387 | Gross: $65.23M

9 out of 10 stars. All of the things I loved about the original doubled and tripled and quadripled and RYAN REYNOLDS! He's a man's man, man.
