Robert Downey Jr. served as the face of one of the most lucrative superhero franchises in cinema history. But even in the middle of his run as Iron Man, he wondered if the superhero genre was starting to wear thin.

The concern for superhero fatigue has grown recently, thanks to the critical and commercial disappointments of certain superhero films. Some have pointed to Marvel’s most recent flicks as evidence of the concept. An argument can be made that Marvel’s content doesn’t resonate with audiences like it used to. But even during the peak of Marvel’s success, Downey seemed to feel fatigue was setting in.
“Honestly, the whole thing is just showing the beginning signs of fraying around the edges,” Downey said in a 2014 interview with The Telegraph.

When Marvel released The Avengers in 2012, it was viewed as a risky gamble. Although it is now relatively simple for the MCU to release a big movie starring a large cast of A-list actors, the studio set a new precedent with The Avengers. While the MCU has done well at replicating that success, no other studio seems to have come close.
Even with the film’s phenomenal success and intriguing financial flow, it is still surprising that most people are ignorant of certain facts about it. Did you know that Lou Ferrigno—the original Hulk (CBS’ The Incredible Hulk)—shadowed Mark Ruffalo in a crucial but unseen role in Joss Whedon’s 2012 flick?

British royal family news reveals that Meghan Markle’s latest douche behavior toward her husband Prince Harry and his family could be the nail in her coffin.
Harry will be at an Invictus Games event on May 8, but Meghan has no time for that. Instead she is getting ready for her “Nigerian Princess trip.” Meghan is 43% Nigerian you know.
A source told The Express: “Her conspicuous absence from all his recent trips has been noted. This time she will be missing a key event in Harry’s Invictus diary as well as the opportunity to offer support to her father-in-law.” Tsk, tsk, where do all the memos to Meghan go?

2012’s The Avengers is widely regarded as one of the best movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, perfect just the way it is. But little do fans know that the film wasn’t always supposed to unfold the way it did. In fact, this version only reached fans because of Robert Downey Jr., their favorite Oscar winner and former Tony Stark portrayer.
The Avengers (2012).
As it turns out, the original version that filmmaker Joss Whedon had planned for the movie wasn’t meant to include any of the supporting characters from the previous movies in this film at all, which included Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts as well. But then Downey Jr. stepped into the picture and went against Whedon’s decision, just to include his character’s love interest in it, too.

“I’m much more comfortable being the underdog,” Kevin Feige recently told Empire.
If anyone has lost the right to call themselves an underdog, it’s got to be Feige, right? After all, he’s the head of Marvel Studios, the architect of a film franchise that dominated box offices for over a decade. He’s a key member of Disney’s corporate empire, a byword for a producer who knows how to please fans and executives alike.
Why in the world would he use that word to describe himself? Well, you don’t have to look much further than recent Marvel movie reviews and disappointing box office showings to find the answer. A degree of superhero fatigue has set in, and audiences no longer automatically line up for an increasingly unwieldy number of new Marvel entries.
Sure, some dedicated fans will disagree, but Feige clearly knows and accepts the truth.

As far as the Marvel Cinematic Universe is concerned, aka the MCU, there is no barrier that can justify the fans’ utter loyalty to the franchise. Unlike the Phase Four era, which alienated and divided fans more than ever, the billion-dollar franchise has always attracted the attention of critics and audiences from all over, proving its fascinating command over the IP and the power of storytelling.

David Fincher’s star-studded crime thriller Se7en is one of the best in the genre. The film featuring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman in the lead, starred Kevin Spacey as a serial killer executing murders across the city based on the seven deadly sins. However, when the film was released, Spacey decided to be absent from the marketing campaign and the opening credits due to a genius reason.
Kevin Spacey in Se7en
Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt headlined Se7en as an almost-retired detective and his young partner investigating the brutal murders by the serial killer. The film can be easily credited as a horror piece due to the horrific murders that are shown. But what made it more popular for the fans was the shock to find out who the killer was. Spacey planned to make it play out that way.

It might be one year premature for its 30th anniversary, but David Fincher’s Seven is having a moment. Following the release of the 8K transfer of the 1995 film, Fincher has left himself no choice but to dig back into the archives – and that includes the test screenings, described by the director as “disastrous.”
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, David Fincher said that Seven tested in the 50s with audiences, a deadly sin in its own right within the movie industry. But Fincher believes that the test audience had been duped, as promotional fliers teased the wrong movies from his stars. “They brought me this little 5-by-7-inch card that said: “Would you like to see a new movie starring Brad Pitt (‘Legends of the Fall’) and Morgan Freeman (‘Driving Miss Daisy’)?” It made no sense to me. Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 r*pe conviction was overturned by the Court of Appeals in New York, marking a significant reversal in the historic #MeToo movement case. The former Hollywood producer was found guilty of two of the five felony counts of r*pe in 2020.

Pop quiz hot shot: What’s the best action movie of the past 20 or 30 years that never received a cinematic sequel? Nope, it’s not Speed. Is it Wanted? Nobody? The Accountant? How about Knight and Day or American Made? While the latter comes from director Doug Liman, we’d argue that the correct answer is Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Liman’s eminently watchable assassin thriller that continues to shine thanks to the explosive chemistry between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, two luminous movie stars who met and fell in love during production. Although the movie earned decent reviews and grossed nearly half a billion dollars worldwide, Mr. & Mrs. Smith never received an official sequel or cinematic spinoff and is often remembered for the juicy tabloid gossip surrounding its two superstars.

I never liked Tom Ripley but I keep meeting him.
I’ve “met” Ripley in five films, and he’s now the protagonist of a somber eight-part Netflix series. So filmmakers clearly find his character intriguing. Even though he has no character.
That, in itself, reminds me that Hollywood is suffering the same problem as Washington: an absence of vital young protagonists. Voters are confronted by an election that’s really a rerun, likely opened by a debate no one wants to witness.
In filmmaking, the worldwide success of Oppenheimer told us that a complex story becomes more interesting if it’s also about someone interesting. Yet movies with vibrant young protagonists seem to be losing their moment.
Dan Lin, the new chief of film at Netflix, confides a desire — since rebutted by Ted Sarandos on Thursday’s Q1 earnings call — to steer away from mindless mega-budget action films like...

David Fincher is a philosopher as well as a perfectionist. When asked about the significance of his 8K remastering of “Seven” (premiering April 19 at the Chinese IMAX in 4K as part of the TCM Classic Film Festival), he told IndieWire, “If you think of it in string theory, it’s like a volumetric capture of where all these careers were at, and what these people wanted and needed and infused the thing with.”
Fincher was referring, of course, to Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin Spacey, and the rest of the cast and crew who made his breakout 1995 serial killer neo-noir. The film was a brilliant analog product of the era (with only seven weeks of prep) but also ahead of its time in conveying a dark, creepy, nihilistic police procedural that got under our skin like no other film.
“It is what it is, warts and all,” Fincher said.

Gwyneth Paltrow is opening up about the sacrifices she’s made as a mother of two children.
During an interview for Today With Hoda & Jenna, Zanna Roberts Rassi mentioned that Paltrow’s mother, actress Blythe Danner, “gave up some incredible roles” to raise her family, and was wondering if the actress-turned-wellness guru has done the same.
“There were a lot,” admitted the Oscar winner, who shares her daughter Apple, 19, and son Moses, 18, with ex-husband Chris Martin. She is currently married to Brad Falchuk.
“I mean it’s funny because it didn’t feel like a sacrifice to me at the time, but if I look back at it through a cultural lens, I think like, wow, if people know that I didn’t do this movie or that movie, they’d be quite shocked,” she added.

She went ahead to add a picture of sliced fruits like apples, pineapple, herbs, and other vegetables soaked in water.
She also added a link to her “Apple Tea Recipe.” The following day, she didn’t share the remedies suggested by her followers rather she shared a photo of some breakfast items that consisted of croissants and mixed fruit, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries.

Lately, Dakota Johnson has been battling a sea of negative criticism. Ever since the trailer for her critically blasted superhero movie, Madame Web, first debuted, the actress has suffered trolling. The United States is tearing itself apart in a maelstrom of sectarian divisions. Armed groups freely patrol vast swaths of so-called “sovereign” territory. The constant threat of violence hangs over the country, and states are openly rebelling against the powers of the federal government. The world’s oldest continuous modern democracy seems poised on the brink of melting down.
And, oh yeah, a new movie is coming out: Alex Garland’s Civil War.
While the above scenario is a slightly exaggerated version of what’s actually happening in the U.S. today—and, it seems, for the past eight years—one can squint a little and imagine that it’s not really that far off from the truth. The nation is more polarized than ever before, trust in the government, along with institutions like the press and the Supreme Court, is at an all-time low, and everyday Americans are viewing...

A few days ago, Legendary Entertainment revealed that Denis Villeneuve has started with the development work for Dune 3, aka Dune Messiah. The sequel, Dune 2, received a great response from the audience worldwide. The sci-fi fantasy film is based on Frank Herbert’s Dune movies. It stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Florence Pugh, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Austin Butler and others.
In Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies, Timothee Chalamet plays Paul Atreides. When the movie was announced a few years ago, everyone was worried that it would be a good watch. In 1984, David Lynch also made a movie based on Frank’s novel. However, the film performed poorly at the box office, and even the audience wasn’t happy with Lynch’s adaptation.

Robert Downey Jr. would "happily" play Iron Man again. The 58-year-old actor portrayed Tony Stark and his superhero alter ego in 11 movies from 2008's 'Iron Man' to 2019's 'Avengers: Endgame' and although his beloved character was killed off in the later movie, the Oscar-winning star insisted that doesn't have to mean fans have seen the last of him.He explained to Esquire magazine in a new interview: “It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”Elsewhere in the interview, his co-star Gwyneth Paltrow - who played Tony's assistant and wife Pepper Potts - revealed she gave up learning her lines for the films because of Downey's insistence on "throwing out" his scripts and improvising new dialogue at the last minute.

Tom Ripley has become a genre in himself. In 1955, author Patricia Highsmith published “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” a viciously smart psychological thriller featuring an all-time villain at its center. A small-time con artist who slithers him way into the social circle of a rich playboy he develops a consuming obsession with. Both charming and horrifying, with a thirst for wealth that’s equally as relatable as it is repulsive, Ripley burns on the page as an absolutely indelible character.
Unsurprisingly, Ripley has become the type of juicy role that actors kill to play. And that’s lead to three genuinely great adaptations of the novel. The book first found its way onto screen as “Purple Noon,” starring a prime Alain Delon as Tom Ripley. And then, of course, there’s the acclaimed 1999 adaptation from director Anthony Minghella, featuring an all-star cast led by Matt Damon as the title character with Jude Law,...

Robert Downey Jr. may have strictly stuck to the script for Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” but back for his MCU debut, the Oscar winner shrugged off any lines he didn’t like.
According to Downey’s “Iron Man” co-star Gwyneth Paltrow, Downey would tell director Jon Favreau “I’m not saying these fucking lines” each morning and “throw” out the scenes. Favreau and Downey would then improvise on set, leading Paltrow to also have to wait and see for her own dialogue.

Robert Downey Jr. may have recently won his first Oscar for Oppenheimer, but he’s not looking to run from his Marvel past.
In fact, the actor says he’d “happily” return as Tony Stark/Iron Man.
“It’s too integral a part of my DNA,” Downey told Esquire in a new interview. “That role chose me. And look, I always say, never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”
Downey’s Iron Man met his fate in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame in what was arguably the most emotionally devastating moment in the 33-film Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel Comics also always played fast and loose with character deaths, regularly killing off heroes and villains for effect, only to quickly bring them back, Marvel Studios boss Feige has previously said he’s rather protective of the moment Iron Man sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos.

Robert Downey Jr. is not closing the door on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which he kicked off in 2008 with “Iron Man” and headlined for 11 years through 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.” Iron Man met his demise in that tentpole, but that has never stopped rumors from circulating that Marvel is trying to bring Downey back into the fold, especially now that the MCU has hit a box office rough patch with 2023 flops such as “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels.” Certainly, Downey’s return as Iron Man could restore Marvel to its blockbuster glory days.
Speaking to Esquire magazine after his Oscar win for “Oppenheimer” last month, Downey was asked if he would ever return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that he is officially an Academy Award winner. The actor didn’t hesitate to answer yes.
“Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA,” Downey said. “That role chose me.

Ripley is the new adaptation of the famous novel The Talented Mr. Ripley, written by Patricia Highsmith and published in 1955. The book has received several adaptations throughout the decades and is still one of the best crime mysteries in history, so creators seem to return to it, consistently delivering powerful storytelling and unique characters to study. In the story, we follow Tom Ripley, a conman from New York, who sees the opportunity to travel to Europe on a strange job,...

When I saw the first black-and-white still of Andrew Scott in and as “Ripley,” I was sold — and I know I’m not alone.
The 47-year-old actor might seem like an unexpected choice to step into the shoes of Tom Ripley, but for anyone following his career, it could not have been a more perfect casting or welcome treat. From the very first moments, Steve Zaillian’s “Ripley” is one of those projects that hinges entirely upon its lead actor, a vehicle for Mr. Ripley’s talents that buoys sharp direction, artistic choices, and lush cinematography in its wake.
As for casting the man last seen on TV as Hot Priest in the role of a known sociopath (though Scott and Zaillian dislike labeling their antihero), we must turn to Tumblr. With Instagram in its infancy and TikTok still years away, Twitter and Tumblr were the arenas for Andrew Scott...

Andrew Scott continues to add to his wide-ranging acting résumé with Ripley, taking on famed con man Tom Ripley as he is hired to live a life of deceit, fraud and murder.
After playing a Bond villain in 2015’s Spectre, Scott shared that playing such an evil role was “not a territory that I feel like I would want to go over again. Now I know who I am a little bit more, I feel like the work that I’m just interested in doing is more in the gray areas.” But, he told The Hollywood Reporter at the show’s Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday, he does not see Tom Ripley as a villainous character.
“I see him absolutely as an antihero, but he’s the protagonist. He’s not the antagonist, so we’re seeing it through his eyes, that’s the whole part of it,” Scott explained.

After eight years of traveling back and forth to see select Hollywood clients in Los Angeles, the Chicago-based plastic surgeon Dr. Julius Few has quietly opened a satellite office in Santa Monica and he is already booked into June. Few, a specialist in eye surgery and thread lifting, offers surgical and non-surgical treatments, with a focus on the face and breasts. He has made a name for his subtle, natural approach.
Close friend Gwyneth Paltrow has long referred to Few as the “holistic plastic surgeon” and the pair collaborated to develop the Goop Beauty Youth-Boost Peptide Serum ($150), launched in July 2023.
In February, his own clean and clinically tested eponymous Dr. Few skincare line of seven products ($85-$195) debuted at select Neiman Marcus stores, Drfewskincare.com and Goop.com. The vegan formulations include a Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser, Supreme Oil Serum, Moisture Complete, Moisture Complete Sheer, Rejuvenating Eye Cream + Spf, Tinted Mineral Sunscreen SPF30 and Clean Retinol.

“I’m not someone who takes advantage of people,” Tom Ripley tells his new friend Dickie Greenleaf in the second episode of the new Netflix thriller Ripley. By this point, viewers have ample evidence that Tom is, in fact, exactly the kind of someone who takes advantage of people, even if Dickie and his girlfriend Marge are charmed by his company and oblivious to the threat he poses to them.
Many viewers will go into Ripley already understanding that Tom is, as one character will put it later in the show,...
