Another Season of American Idol has come and gone. Season 22 crowned winner Abi Carter Sunday night, and judge Katy Perry bid the show farewell. Perry sat at the judges’ panel for seven seasons alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
Following 15 seasons on Fox, ABC revived the singing competition series in 2018. The show began in June 2002, and it launched careers of musicians like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and more. A different trio of judges — Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul — helmed the show at the start alongside host Ryan Seacrest — who has shepherded the show through all of its changes.
ABC has not yet announced who will replace Perry as a judge and join the ranks of past and present celebrity judges. Below, find a list of all the judges in American Idol history.

Paula Abdul filed her sexual assault and battery suit against Nigel Lythgoe late last year seeking a jury trial, and she’s going to get one.

I received Madonna’s fourth studio album, Like a Prayer, on cassette for my 10th birthday. The liner notes were scented with patchouli oil to evoke the sensory experience of walking into a Catholic church, and you could smell it even through the shrink wrap. After devouring some cake, I rushed to my room to listen to the album.
It wasn’t like anything I’d grown up hearing on Top 40 radio, including Madonna’s own past hits, which I was only peripherally aware of. “Oh Father” sounded familiar, a cousin to “Live to Tell,” but it was darker and weirder. “Till Death Do Us Part” was more my speed, but the song’s lyrics were confusing and unsettling to my unrefined ears. Rolling Stone called it “as close to art as pop music gets.”

ABC’s American Idol Season 22 is here, and fans welcome back Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Katy Perry as the judges. The three judges have developed a fantastic working relationship with each other, but a body language expert believes that Perry is already “checked out” of this season. Here’s why.
‘American Idol’ Season 22 coach Katy Perry appears ‘checked out,’ a body language expert says
American Idol Season 22 is officially in full swing, and fans can’t wait to see who Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie choose to push through the early stages of the competition. Perry joined American Idol in 2018 and has won numerous awards for her music through the years. There’s no doubt that Perry loves being a judge on the series — but body language expert Judi James told The Sun that Perry appears to have “checked out of her job” this season.

Seems like Reacher fans haven’t scrolled down far enough on Alan Ritchson’s filmography, because many have only recently realized the action star auditioned for American Idol Season 3 back in 2004. “Today I learned that while his first credited role as an actor was Aquaman in Smallville in 2005 (which I did know), Alan Ritchson was actually on network TV a year before… as himself auditioning for American Idol,” one X user wrote on March 9. “And he made it to Hollywood! Literally!” “Wait, how am I just finding out Alan Ritchson was on American Idol?!” another person posted on March 14. “I wonder if this Idol appearance led to him getting work as an actor,” a third X user wrote a day latter. “Let him sing already!” Ritchson was just a 20-year-old from Niceville, Florida, when he tried out for the singing competition — and he had Paula Abdul smiling even before he started singing,...

So many actors have their beginnings on the stage, doing routines that might seem cringe but are 100% part of who they are: a pre-teen Ryan Gosling with those retro dance moves and Mc Hammer pants, Rodney Alcala smoothly winning over the ladies on The Dating Game and – Ok, maybe that second one doesn’t quite qualify. But here’s another that does: Alan Ritchson on American Idol. That’s right, the star of Reacher once tried to make it big by wooing Paula Abdul.
While Alan Ritchson moved onto Hollywood during the third season of American Idol, he was ultimately cut, with the eventual winner being Fantasia Barrino, who we should note is not a small screen action hero. Ritchson’s standout moment came when he stunned judge Paula Abdul just by being in the room, bringing a smile to her face. He would subsequently personally serenade her with Stevie Wonder...

On Hollywood’s biggest night, an exclusive viewing party in Beverly Hills brought together wall-to-wall reality television stars that gathered at Wolfgang Puck’s legendary restaurant Spago.
DirecTV Streaming With the Stars was an intimate affair for nearly 200 guests that was hosted by Rob Lowe. Paula Abdul is speaking out via her legal team after the latest development in her lawsuit against Nigel Lythgoe.
The “Straight Up” pop star and American Idol judge sued the TV producer in December 2023, accusing him of sexual assault and harassment.
At the time, he denied the claims in a statement. However, multiple other lawsuits have accused him of similar things. In early January, Nigel gave up his spot on the judging panel for So You Think You Can Dance.
On Tuesday (March 5), Nigel asked the courts to dismiss Paula‘s lawsuit. Court documents describe him as a “victim of Abdul’s appalling lies” and provided alleged text exchanges. It also alleged that the accusations had a “life-changing impact” on Nigel‘s life.
Paula responded via her legal team.

American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe has issued a furious denial in response to the recent lawsuit brought against him by Paula Abdul, in which she alleges Lythgoe sexually assaulted her on two separate occasions.
In new documents filed to the L.A. Superior Court on Tuesday, Lythgoe categorically refutes Abdul’s claims, and describes them as “false, despicable, intolerable, and life-changing…the worst form of character assassination.”
The filing stated, “[Abdul] is a pathological liar and attention seeker, with no apparent concern about consistently making contradictory representations. She invents stories and then she doubles down, always working to make herself appear the victim. Consistent with her past pattern of telling lies about incidents that allegedly happened to her, Abdul’s recent allegations against Lythgoe are pure fiction. There is only one victim here and that is Lythgoe, whose life and career have been decimated by Abdul’s lies.”

“These are the defenses that many women like Ms. Abdul had to adopt to deal with men who abuse their power,” the statement adds of texts and tweets Lythgoe peppered throughout his filing earlier this week to show what a good relationship he and Abdul had during some of same periods in which she alleges he assaulted her.
Abdul also shows in the statement that she has texts as well, showing cringe-y communications from American Idol producer Lythgoe – as you can see below:

On the same day Nigel Lythgoe answered Paula Abdul’s sexual assault complaint, calling the singer and former American Idol judge a “fabulist,” the embattled TV producer was hit with yet another lawsuit — this time from a Jane Doe accuser claiming he sexually battered her at his home in 2018.
The new accuser claims she first met Lythgoe in 2003 at a professional event and was at his home in April 2018 for a “professional” meeting when he allegedly pounced without warning. “After a few minutes of professional discourse, Lythgoe suddenly forced plaintiff...

So You Think You Can Dance co-creator and former judge Nigel Lythgoe has been accused of sexual assault for the fourth time in less than three months.
“Lythgoe’s sexual assault and battery were so traumatizing that Plaintiff no longer feels like the confident, capable, and independent woman that she was before the incident,” says Jane Doe of the alleged 2018 incident in a filing today in LA Superior Court.

Similar to an alleged 2015 attack Paula Abdul detailed in her own suit late last year, and the early January a sexual assault/battery, sexual harassment and negligence civil suit by Jane Doe K.G. and Jane Doe K.N., this latest Jane Doe’s claim occurred at Lythgoe’s LA residence. Nigel Lythgoe has responded to Paula Abdul’s lawsuit in which she alleges she was sexually assaulted twice by the “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance” producer. In new documents filed to the L.A. Superior Court on Tuesday and obtained by Variety, Lythgoe vigorously denies Abdul’s claims, calling them “false, despicable, intolerable and life-changing” and characterizing them as “the worst form of character assassination.”
The filing describes Abdul as a “well-documented fabulist, with a long history of telling wild stories that are untethered from reality and are primarily designed to attract attention and make Abdul appear to be the victim of dreadful misfortune.”
Included in the documents is a lengthy recounting of Abdul’s previous positive statements about Lythgoe, both from personal correspondence and via social media. “It is unthinkable that Abdul would even tolerate Lythgoe’s physical proximity let alone send him adoring messages...

(Updated Feb 22 Pm With Nigel Lythgoe Statement) American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe has been accused of sexual assault for the third time in less than two months.
“What should have been a quick two-minute ride ended up being a ten-to-fifteen minute sexual assault and battery in which plaintiff was trapped in Lythgoe’s vehicle,” alleges a battery, gender violence and emotional distress complaint from a Jane Doe against the former So You Think You Can Dance judge.
“Lythgoe’s sexual assault and battery of plaintiff left her feeling horribly violated, shocked, guilty, humiliated, and embarrassed. Such mental anguish and emotional distress were severe and lasting to this day,” the February 17 filed jury trial seeking suit adds in the barest of language.

A new sexual assault lawsuit has been filed against Nigel Lythgoe, this time by an unidentified woman who claims the former American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance producer forcibly touched her in 2016.
The suit, filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, is the latest against Lythgoe accusing him of sexual misconduct and abuse. After Paula Abdul sued the producer in December over two separate incidents of sexual assault, a pair of unnamed contestants on “Aag,” which is believed to be a reference to reality series All American Girl cited in a complaint from the women, came forward with accusations that he made unwanted sexual advances and groped them inside his Los Angeles home in 2003. That second suit was filed in January against a defendant with the initials “N.L.,” which multiple outlets identified as the producer.

Derek Hough and his wife Hayley Erbert, who underwent an emergency craniectomy before Christmas, posted an update Monday on social media about her health.
Sitting with Hough in front of the camera, Erbert admitted she’s had both good days and bad after she was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel. The couple, who were married in August, were performing their Symphony of Dance tour in December when she became disoriented and was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery.
“I’m doing so much better every single day, so much progress every single day,” she said. “There was a moment in the hospital when I had just woken up from my first surgery and Derek was sitting at the bottom at bed, saying so many people were thinking about [her].”
“Through this experience this woman has been unbelievable,” Hough continued. “Her perseverance, her acceptance has been remarkable to witness firsthand.

JoJo Siwa is returning to “So You Think You Can Dance” as a judge for the show’s reimagined Season 18. Siwa, who was previously a judge on the show’s Season 17 in 2022, replaces Nigel Lythgoe — who stepped down earlier this month in the wake of two lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault.
Siwa will now join choreographer Allison Holker and pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy on the show’s judging panel. Presenter and author Cat Deeley hosts the dance competition series, which premieres its 18th season on Monday, March 4 at 9 p.m. Et on Fox.
Siwa is a dancer, singer and actor who boasts more than 70 million followers across social media and was named one of Time’s “100 Most Influential People” in 2020. Siwa released a debut EP in 2018, and is currently in the studio recording a follow-up. The performer was most recently on Fox as a contestant on Season 2 of “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.

JoJo Siwa is back on So You Think You Can Dance.

This comes after he exited the show following a number of sexual assault complaints.
Siwa will sit alongside Allison Holker and Maksim Chmerkovskiy on the judging panel. Cat Deeley will host the series, which premieres on March 4.
It’s not clear whether the show had to do any reshoots following Lythgoe’s departure.
Lythgoe, the co-creator, lead judge and exec producer of So You Think You Can Dance, is the subject of two sexual misconduct lawsuits, including one filed by Paula Abdul who accused him of assaulting her twice over the past 20 years.

In 1991, when Debbie Gibson’s underrated third album, Anything Is Possible, stalled at #41 on the charts, the New York Times printed a full-page obituary for her relatively brief career titled “The Perils and Perishability of a Teen Idol.” In just a few short years, Gibson had gone from America’s sweetheart—anointed the youngest artist to write, produce, and perform a #1 hit—to being declared a pop casualty by the nation’s newspaper of record.
Only two years earlier, the Long Island teen had scored her biggest hit, “Lost in Your Eyes,” the lead single from her sophomore effort, Electric Youth. The album is arguably the weakest of Gibson’s four Atlantic releases, largely eschewing the sleek dance-pop and of-the-moment freestyle and hi-Nrg stylings of 1987’s Out of the Blue in favor of ostensibly more mature piano ballads and Motown-lite, which zapped her music of the exuberance that made her debut so charming.
