New York Women in Film & Television hosted its 44th annual Muse Awards on Wednesday afternoon in New York City. More than 700 guests gathered at Cipriani 42nd Street to celebrate the achievements of honorees Fran Drescher, Alex Borstein, Kyra Sedgwick, Tantoo Cardinal, Latasha Gillespie, Millicent Simmonds, Michèle Stephenson and Oscar-winner Raney Aronson-Rath.
SAG-AFTRA executive vice president, Linda Powell, accepted an award on behalf of Drescher, who wasn’t able to make it to the gala due to her father’s recent death.
Powell read directly from a statement written by the SAG-AFTRA president, who pointed out personal challenges she faced in 2023 during the historic Hollywood strikes. “I couldn’t escape the misogyny that plagued press coverage of the strike and our negotiations,” Drescher wrote. “It was disgusting, but I refused and will always refuse to conform to masculine expectations.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on February 23 with episode 8 on MTV. Airing concurrently with the main show is its tea-spilling, backstage-focused sister series “Untucked,” now in its 15th season. For this week’s challenge, the nine remaining queens got to participate in the iconic “Snatch Game” with their best celebrity impersonations. The three safe queens this week were Dawn as Meghan McCain, Q as Amelia Earhart, and Plasma as Patti LuPone so they were the first to return to the Werk Room while the tops and bottoms received critiques from the judges.
Despite dreaming about winning “Snatch Game” for a long time, Plasma was “fine” with being safe because she wasn’t as confident with her performance as she thought she’d be. Dawn was equally fine with the decision, understanding that she didn’t stand out in the group. They both gave a “cheers” to Q for her first...

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on February 23 with the eighth episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Previously in episode seven, Plasma enjoyed her shining moment as the star and challenge winner in “The Sound of Rusic” while Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige and Megami didn’t strike a chord with the judges in their supporting roles. Despite a flipless Lip Sync for Your Life, Mhi’ya came out on top once again and sent Megami back to New York.
This week, the remaining 9 queens head to the celebrity dais with the classic impersonation challenge, “Snatch Game.” Seated at the judges’ dais for episode 8 was Emmy winning host RuPaul Charles, longtime bestie Michelle Visage, recurring judge Carson Kressley, and actress Kyra Sedgwick as the extra special guest.

We’re not expecting Bob Odenkirk to succeed King Charles III on the throne, but the actor is indeed related to the British monarch, as he was surprised to find out on the January 30 episode of Finding Your Roots. And dozens of other celebrities have been genealogically gobsmacked on the PBS show. Here are some of the biggest revelations from Finding Your Roots’ run so far — including one that threatened to end the show. Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick are distant cousins. Hollywood supercouple Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick were two of Finding Your Roots’ first guests, appearing on the show in 2012. And in that first-season episode, host Henry Louis Gates Jr. dropped the bombshell that the married actors are distant cousins. “So talk about six degrees of separation, right?” Gates quipped, per People. Ben Affleck is descended from an enslaver (and tried to hide it). PBS paused production on...

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" is, hands down, one of the funniest sitcoms in recent TV history. The Andy Samberg-led detective comedy lost a bit of its considerable charm with a final season that attempted (perhaps ultimately unsuccessfully) to grapple with timely discussions about policing, but for the vast majority of the show's eight-season run, it was an energetic and uproarious fan favorite. As Mike Schur's follow-up to "Parks and Recreation" (Schur co-created "Nine-Nine" with Dan Goor), "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" continued the writers' knack for creating quick-witted and endearing workplace sitcoms that are perfect binge-watch material.

Just a couple days before Andre Braugher’s untimely passing at the age of 61, I was thinking about the actor’s performance on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”
Mike Schur and Dan Goor’s eight-season comedy (which premiered on Fox and then moved to NBC) was full of dazzling performances and hysterical one-liners, but out of nowhere I found myself thinking about Braugher’s mic-drop from Season 1’s Thanksgiving episode: “My wife was killed by a man in a yellow sweater.” Aside from being exactly the kind of jarringly memorable line that one might recall at random with no context, it’s a critical moment that shows his character, the seemingly by-the-book and buttoned up Raymond Holt, is not opposed to some light shenanigans when the situation calls for it — and crash course in Braugher’s masterclass of impeccable timing.
Braugher’s filmography kicks off in the late-1980s, where he proved himself...

Kyra Sedgwick is not in her pop culture trivia era, at least judging from her performance on a new episode of Celebrity Jeopardy!. The actor took her best crack at a category called “Also a Taylor Swift Song,” and despite throwing out a few guesses, she wasn’t able to correctly assign any of the clues to the singer’s tunes.
Just to be abundantly clear here: All the clues in the “Also a Taylor Swift Song” category describe a word or phrase that — you guessed it — is also the name of a Taylor Swift song. Sure, there are a lot of songs to choose from, but the Jeopardy! writers certainly didn’t go for any deep cuts. For example, the $200 clue reads: “This washing machine cycle using cold water and low spin speed is suggested for lingerie and silk neckties.” (Say it with us now: “Delicate!”)
But even standard...

Frances Sternhagen, a Tony-winning actress with many decades on the stage and screen, died Monday of natural causes in New Rochelle, N.Y.
She was known for her recurring role as the regal grandmother of Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle) on “ER” and as Cliff’s mother on “Cheers,” for which she was twice nominated for Emmys.
“Frannie, as she was known to her family, friends, and colleagues was a hardworking, award-winning, beloved and celebrated actress for over 60 years. Her foundation was the theater, but she was known for roles in film, television, and spoken arts. She was versatile – adept at comedy as well as drama, character roles and leading ladies,” her family said in a statement.

Frances Sternhagen, the versatile actress whose half-century on Broadway included two Tony Awards, seven nominations and memorable roles in Equus, On Golden Pond and The Heiress, has died. She was 93.
Sternhagen died peacefully Monday of natural causes at her home in New Rochelle, New York, her family said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. “We continue to be inspired by her love and life,” they noted.
With all her success on the stage, Sternhagen is perhaps best known for playing two mothers on television: the blue-blooded Bunny MacDougal on HBO’s Sex and the City and the overbearing Esther Clavin on NBC’s Cheers. She received Emmy nominations for both performances.
Sternhagen specialized in portraying characters who had a no-nonsense, overbearing attitude and plucky fortitude. She relished roles that were off the beaten track — the odder and more eccentric, the better.
“I must say it’s fun to play these snobby older ladies.

Jeffrey Donovan will not be returning as Detective Cosgrove for Season 23 of “Law & Order,” Variety has confirmed.
According to TVLine, who was first to report the news, producers are already on the search for a new series regular. The outlet reports sources claim the two parted ways due to creative differences.
Donovan joined the cast in 2021, portraying Detective Cosgrove in Seasons 21 and 22 of the series revival. Cosgrove, a junior detective, joined the NYPD team as the new partner of Det. Kevin Bernard (Anthony Anderson). “Frank is a tough-as-nails detective that seeks justice by whatever means necessary. Every legal drama needs a bad cop, and Donovan shines,” reads his official character description, per NBC.
Probably best known for his leading work as former CIA operative Michael Westen on the USA series “Burn Notice” for seven seasons, Donovan also gained recognition with notable roles on FX’s “Fargo” and Hulu’s “Shut Eye.

Bradley Cooper is admitting just how “terrified” he was to portray Leonard Bernstein for the Netflix film “Maestro.”
Cooper, who also directed, produced, and co-wrote the feature, said during a special New York City tastemakers screening Q&a at the Whitby Hotel moderated by Lin-Manuel Miranda that he spent six years mastering how to conduct a six-minute sequence. The post-screening panel also included Cooper’s co-stars Matt Bomer and Carey Mulligan, and the movie debuted to a standing ovation.
The scene Cooper referenced captures Bernstein famously conducting the 1976 London Symphony Orchestra in Ely Cathedral.
“That scene I was so worried about because we did it live,” Cooper said. “That was the London Symphony Orchestra. I was recorded live, I had to conduct them. And I spent six years learning how to conduct six minutes and 21 seconds of music.”
Cooper credited his “wonderful teachers” for helping him reenact Bernstein’s conducting.

In an upcoming episode of Bosch: Legacy Season Two, private investigator Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch (Titus Welliver) asks a favor of a couple of colleagues from his days as an LAPD homicide detective. Their exchange is terse and extremely one-sided in favor of the self-righteous Bosch. As he walks away, Christina Vega (Jacqueline Obradors) mutters, “Same old Bosch.”
“Same old Bosch” might as well be the actual title of Bosch: Legacy, which is among the least spinoff-y of spinoffs ever made(*). It brings back the hero of Bosch as its main character.

Five years ago, with Beto O’Rourke mounting an electrifying campaign to unseat Ted Cruz from the U.S. Senate, Democrats seemed hopeful that the political winds were shifting in Texas to one day make it a purple state. He ultimately lost by 2.6 percent amid a record turnout for a mid-term election.
Since then, Democratic hopes for turning Texas into a swing state have diminished. In the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump made gains with Hispanic voters. And the state legislature has become increasingly conservative with a host of bills signed this year by Republican Governor Greg Abbott that include barring public universities from creating Dei offices, banning transgender athletes from college sports, and restricting labor rights. In 2022, abortion was banned in the state following the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

In her short career, Rachel Sennott has already done it all. She has dabbled in comedy, written and produced feature films, and starred in several projects, including movies and TV shows. After graduating from NYU's esteemed Tisch School of the Arts (known for its extensive pool of celebrity alums ranging from Martin Scorsese to Adam Sandler), Sennott began doing comedy performances at open mic nights, which led to her doing her own shows online like "Puke Fest" and "Ur Gonna Slp Rlly Well Tonight."
"I like juggling multiple projects," Sennott told Forbes in 2020 about balancing comedy and her movie and television projects. "It makes me feel less stuck. If I am frustrated in one area, I can always push myself in another."
The success of Sennott's comedy opened up opportunities for her to act in larger-scale television shows and movies, including an episode of HBO's "High Maintenance" in 2018. From there,...

Laurel Park (Jackie Chung) doesn’t fully break down over Susannah’s death until Episode 7 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
While Belly (Lola Tung), Steven (Sean Kaufman), Taylor (Rain Spencer), Conrad Fisher (Chris Briney), Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno), Skye (Elsie Fisher) and Cam Cameron (David Iacono) threw a party to rebel against the sale of the Cousins Beach house by Aunt Julia (Kyra Sedgwick), Laurel remained unaware of Julia’s plans and the kids’ efforts to thwart them. It was a drunken call from Belly that tipped Laurel off as to what her children were really up to while she was away promoting her new memoir, “It’s Not Summer Without You.” The book was about meeting Susannah and living life as best friends from college.
“Laurel just thinks that if she deals with her grief, she will crumble and she won’t be able to be a pillar...

Kyra Sedgwick crafted a detailed backstory for her character Aunt Julia, who catalyzes the plot for Season 2 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
Julia is Susannah’s half-sister who inherits the Cousins Beach house after Susannah (Rachel Blanchard) dies between the first and second seasons of the show. To thwart Julia’s sale of the house, Susannah’s son Conrad goes missing. His brother Jeremiah and their joint love interest Belly join in to make the sale a living hell.
“It was good to be somebody who comes in and affects change. That’s a great character to play. Without her there wouldn’t be a plot this season,” Sedgwick told TheWrap over the phone before the SAG-AFTRA strike began. “I think she is a formidable antagonist because I think that she feels right and dug into her side. She has a different experience in that house, and I think that to a degree,...
