Zayn Malik is gearing up to release his long-awaited fourth studio album, and he’s co-produced the upcoming LP with Grammy-winner Dave Cobb, Rolling Stone can exclusively confirm.
In working with Cobb — one of Nashville’s most accomplished and in-demand producers — Malik will explore new sonic territory and lean into pairing his unmistakable vocals with live instrumentation. The soulful singer-songwriter had spent several years writing the album at his home in rural Pennsylvania before enlisting Cobb’s help as a co-producer. There’s no release date or title yet, but...

Ridley Scott is in talks to direct the Bee Gees biopic in the works at Paramount Pictures, with Barry Gibb set to executive produce and Gladiator’s screenwriter, John Logan, set to provide the script.
The news was shared by Deadline in a report explaining that Paramount is hoping to follow up Bob Marely: One Love with the still-untitled Bee Gees biopic they’ve been developing since they acquired the Gibb family estate and the rights to the band’s hit songs in 2019. Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King was an early sign-on to the project, and for a period of time Kenneth Branagh was slated to direct.
Now, though, Scott is in the director’s chair, which is actually pretty fitting. Early in his career, Scott collaborated with the Bee Gees’ longtime-manager Robert Stigwood on a film project that would star the band themselves. The film never came into fruition,...

Exclusive: With its movie Bob Marley: One Love now in theaters, Paramount Pictures is moving fast on another high-profile biopic on a popular music group and looks to have found an A-list director to lead the project. While a deal isn’t done, sources tell Deadline that Ridley Scott is in negotiations to direct the studio’s untitled Bee Gees movie. Scott will produce alongside producing partner Michael Pruss of Scott Free, Graham King through his Gk Films banner and Stacey Snider.
Paramount is distributing the film worldwide, with Amblin and Sister having the right to co-finance. Barry Gibb is executive producing. John Logan wrote the script.

Ridley Scott looks set to take on the long-in-gestation biopic of the Bees Gees, according to a new report: more here.
The official biopic of the musical brothers The Bee Gees has gone through a couple of gestations in recent times. I remember stories writing about when Kenneth Branagh was set to direct the film. Then, Sing Street’s John Carney was attached. Now though? It looks as if the thing is finally going to get made, because Sir Ridley Scott looks set to jump aboard.
He’s in post-production at the moment on Gladiator 2, and showing little sign of waiting around for his next film. He’s in negotiations to direct the Bee Gees film for Paramount Pictures, with a screenplay by John Logan apparently pretty much in place.

This week’s episode of “Saturday Night Live” saw Dakota Johnson stopping by Studio 8H to promote her role in the upcoming “Spider-Man” spin-off “Madame Web.” It was only her second time hosting the beloved sketch comedy series, but she quickly found herself flanked by some “SNL” royalty during her opening monologue.
The episode’s musical guest was none other than Justin Timberlake, a member of the Five Timer’s Club whose many hosting gigs have spawned some of the most beloved sketches of the show’s modern era. As Johnson began her monologue, Timberlake invited himself on stage and was quick to offer his services as a host.
“If you want me to be in sketches — I have hosted before,” Timberlake said, holding up his hand to signify his five prior hosting appearances. “First he was bringing sexy back, and now he’s bringing coming back.”

Over 20 years after Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon first debuted “The Barry Gibb Talk Show” on Saturday Night Live, the duo revived the sketch on the latest episode.
The premise remains unchanged after two decades and a handful of sketches: Fallon and Timberlake’s Barry and Robin Gibb welcome politicians and experts onto their show, despite the Bee Gees brothers having little understanding of politics. Instead of a thought-provoking conversation on the subject, Barry instead berates the guests, while he and his brother sporadically break into song.

During Dakota Johnson’s Saturday Night Live monologue, she acknowledged that she just can’t take “interviews seriously” while promoting her films.
The actress, who stars in the upcoming Marvel movie Madame Web, alongside Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced and Celeste O’Connor, has been doing a lot of press interviews for the film and realized, “I’m just not good at talking to journalists.”
“I think the big problem is that I say stuff and then they write it down and, and it’s really unfair because most of the time I’m joking,” she quipped.
But Johnson said she’s been that way for a long time, even when she was younger. She proceeded to show a video of herself on a red carpet in the ’90s with her father, actor Don Johnson, as a child. In the footage, she can be seen rolling her eyes.

Once it emerged that Justin Timberlake was returning to Saturday Night Live, it was inevitable that Barry Gibb would make an appearance.
Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon brought The Barry Gibb Talk Show back for its seventh appearance – over 10 years since it was last on the show.
Watch above.
As ever, the Tonight Show host and the former NSync star played Barry Gibb and his quiet brother Robin, who doesn’t have anything to add.
Continuing to use the Bee Gees’ “Nights on Broadway” as the basis for their parody, the Gibbs were joined by Bowen Yang, Keenan Thompson and host Dakota Johnson.
“You look like if Don King ate another Don King,” said Fallon’s Barry Gibb. “I fear nothing; I watched Saltburn with my entire family and I knew about the bathtub scene beforehand.”
“I am legend; I have not cried in 77 years except for Australian show Bluey,” he added.

“Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon made a surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” crashing host Dakota Johnson’s opening monologue as she bantered with the night’s musical guest, Justin Timberlake.
Johnson opened the show by noting it was her first visit to Rockefeller Center’s Studio 8-h since 2015, when she first hosted “SNL” on the heels of its landmark 40th anniversary special when the audience was packed with notables such as directors Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Donald Trump, months before he launched his first successful campaign for the White House. This week’s Saturday Night Live kicked things off with a damn near unwatchable parody of CBS’ NFL broadcast before Dakota Johnson took the stage looking absolutely incredible, dressed in a number that recalled Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s black jumpsuit in Fleabag.
The actress described her upcoming film Madame Web — a Spider-Man spinoff co-starring Sydney Sweeney — as “kind of like if AI generated your boyfriend’s perfect movie.”
“I’ve been doing a lot of press for it and I’m just… not good at talking to journalists,” offered Johnson during her monologue.

There’s a reason the word honors is in the title. To help celebrate the lifetime contributions of artists in music, dance, theater, opera, movies and TV, the Kennedy Center Honors routinely pay tribute to its recipients by rewarding them with memorable performances.
Scores of artists have been feted since the Honors got their start in 1978, but there are certain tributes that remain sketched in our hearts forever. In anticipation of the 46th annual event honoring Billy Crystal, Renée Fleming, Barry Gibb, Queen Latifah, and Dionne Warwick on Dec. 27, we look back at some of the show’s most unforgettable performances — starting with Lenny Bernstein’s opening speech from the very first Kennedy Center Honors, of course.

Old home week on Saturday Night Live continued after the opening monologue with Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph joining host Kate McKinnon in a holiday-themed send-up of Abba.
James Austin Johnson played the infomercial host selling Abba’s 1978 Christmas album “now being released for the first time.” It features “15 brand new Christmas classics and 85 holiday remakes of their existing songs” like “Santa Queen,” “Who’s That Baby,” and a “wintry take” on “Chiquitita” called “Frostitita.”
The women, joined by cast member Bowen Yang, appeared as the Swedish pop supergroup. McKinnon donned a mirror-covered red dress with matching fishnet stockings, while Wiig wore a green leopard-skinned jumpsuit and Rudolph, a superhero-like get-up.
Bowen looking like a cross between Barry Gibb and a Musketeer.

The deceased dictator’s daughter Alina Fernandez is a central subject in the doc and also an executive producer.

“A bond formed with Alina from our shared Cuban roots, yet etched with our distinct experiences, speaks volumes of our kinship beyond political lines, Estefan shared in an exclusive statement to Deadline.
She continued, “Years ago, Alina’s daughter, Alina Salgado, was a lead dancer on one of my tours, symbolizing a deeper connection — a melding of generations bridging Cuba’s complex past. Washington — The Kennedy Center Honors was a decidedly tuneful affair, with musical talents representing four of its five recipients – vocalists and/or songwriters Dionne Warwick, Renée Fleming, Queen Latifah and Barry Gibb — along with actor/comedian/filmmaker Billy Crystal.
The program, in its 46th year, followed the traditional format that showcases tributes to each honoree by artists and celebs whose identities are undisclosed in advance. It kicked off with a lively parade of dancers down the aisles, led by emcee and former honoree Gloria Estefan and accompanied by Sheila E on drums — a first for the event. Produced again by Done and Dusted Inc., it will air Dec. 27 on CBS.
Omitted this year was one familiar staple at the event – the inclusion of brief video biographies of each honoree that emphasized their childhoods and routes to success. Instead, minimal use of videos embellished career highlights.

Robert De Niro took the stage at the Kennedy Center on Sunday and, looking out at the balcony box where honoree Billy Crystal was sitting, told him of his career, “I had no idea you had done so much. And you’ve done it all in such a relatively short amount of time. You’re only 75. That means you’re just about six years away from being the perfect age to be elected president.”
The joke got some of the biggest audience cheers of the night — and a laugh from President Joe Biden, 81, embarking on a re-election campaign where his chronological advantage is, based on polls, top of mind to voters and the source of some doubts.
It was also one of a few references to age throughout Sunday evening’s Kennedy Center Honors which, in addition to Crystal, honored opera singer Renée Fleming, hip hop star and actress Queen Latifah,...

A catfishing scam using photos of The Bee Gees’ Barry Gibb has tricked a woman into sending at least $11,000 of her retirement savings to a con artist.
The story was covered in an episode of the YouTube series Catfished and follows the typical pattern that online romance scams take. An older individual, receives a message from a social media account claiming to be romantically interested in them, and then is convinced to wire money through odd methods for even odder reasons.
In this case, the fake Gibb claimed that he was covertly divorcing his wife, Linda Grey, and had no access to his own money. Thus, he wanted to use Wanda’s cash — and an influx of “donations” coming in from random “fans” — to cover the down payment for a new house, which he and Wanda would move into together once all the legal hullabaloo over the divorce settled. One of Dolly Parton’s biggest hits is “Islands in the Stream”. The Bee Gees wrote the track, which later became a duet between Parton and Kenny Rogers. The song is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2023, and Parton recently reflected on her experience recording it and what it means to her today.
Dolly Parton recorded ‘Islands in the Stream’ in ‘two or three hours’
“Islands in the Stream” was released in 1983. The track was written by the Bee Gees, who initially imagined it as a solo record for Diana Ross. London, June 29 (Ians) Disco legends, the Bee Gees would argue constantly in recording studios, but always made up over a cup of tea, a new book reveals.
According to the book ‘Bee Gees: Children of the World’, the ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ singers, Barry Gibb, 76, and his twin brothers Robin and Maurice, knew it was “time to get back to work” once the kettle had boiled, reports Mirror.co.uk.
Studio engineer John Merchant tells how the brothers were “world champions of sniping at each other” until they had made a cuppa.
The book’s author, pop historian Bob Stanley, wrote: “John reckoned the spats were part of the work process, ‘They knew what the other was capable of, and would not rest until their brother had delivered. ‘They would challenge each other consistently. Gn’R highlighted two reviews from major UK publications in particular: one by music critic Neil McCormick of The Telegraph subtitled “Welcome to the Mumble” and an even harsher piece by The Independent’s Mark Beaumont that called Gn’R “frontrunners for the worst Glasto headline set of all time.”
Beaumont pulled no punches, writing that Axl Rose “flips between a lower register that resembles a clogged lawnmower and a higher one that sounds like Barry Gibb suffering the mother of all wedgies.” Ouch.
The band responded by taking to Twitter to put both writers on blast, tagging each of their Twitter handles and borrowing a line from the song “Chinese Democracy”: “…it would take a lot more hate than you @neil_mccormick @Markbeaumontuk.”

We’ve had some bad weekends at the box office this year, but few worse than a weekend when the only new movie opens in fourth place and the #1 movie from a previous weekend loses so much business it drops all the way down to third. Read on for the weekend box office report.
That new movie was the R-Rated comedy “No Hard Feelings,” starring Jennifer Lawrence, and we’ll get to that in a bit, but first, we have to look at the movie that topped the box office. That was “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” which made $19.3 million this weekend, down just 29% from last weekend, returning it to first place after weeks in second and third place. After crossing the $300 million mark on Friday, the animated sequel has grossed $317 million domestically. Overseas, “Spider-Verse” added another $22 million this weekend, bringing its global total to $560.3 million.

Angela Morley becomes the first openly trans person to earn an Academy Award nomination
The first trans person to be nominated for an Oscar contended for music. The great Angela Morley achieved this in 1974 as one of the four composers for the film “The Little Prince.” Morley’s nomination was a huge step forward in LGBTQ+ history, and it’s rare even to this day, with the number of trans individuals nominated for the Oscar still being very small.
