Plot: The incredible true story of Hollywood revolution meeting social revolution: it’s a wild caper of Black Panther founder Huey Newton escaping from the FBI to Cuba with the help of famed producer Bert Schneider in an impossibly elaborate plan – involving a fake movie production — that goes wrong every way it possibly can. And somehow, it’s all true. Mostly.
Review: The stories of revolutionary political figures and social reformers have been popular for big and small screen adaptations for decades. There seems to be more focus on the 1960s and 1970s than any other period in American history. The 2021 film Judas and the Black Messiah looked at controversial figure Fred Hampton, while this year’s Shirley chronicled Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm’s run for United States President. While these and the stories of Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X have made for acclaimed productions, the story of Black...

Apple TV+ has just unveiled the trailer for “The Big Cigar,” the six-part limited series about Black Panther party founder Huey P. Newton (André Holland). The show tells the remarkable true story of how Newton, a film producer, and a whole crew of people involved in a fake movie production helped the political activist while he tried to evade the FBI in 1974.
The trailer introduces Holland as Newton and his revolutionary accomplishments, along Alessandro Nivola as producer Bert Schneider. The cast includes Tiffany Boone, Pj Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Moses Ingram, Rebecca Dalton, Olli Haaskivi, Jordane Christie, and Glynn Turman (guest stars include Taylor Jackson as Candice Bergen and Inny Clemons as Richard Pryor). With upbeat ’70s music and the peppy fonts to go with it, the vibe is more upbeat than one would expect of a drama thriller — but as the premise underscores, there’s always more story to tell.

Laurence Andries, a TV writing veteran whose credits include Supernatural, Blue Bloods and How to Get Away with Murder — serving as executive producer on all three — is facing sexual assault charges after a man came forward to accuse Andries of drugging and raping him.
Andries, 66, faces six felony counts, including sodomy on a victim prevented from resisting by a controlled substance, oral copulation of an intoxicated victim and penetration of an intoxicated person, reported the Los Angeles Times.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the charges.
Andries — known in the industry as Larry — was arrested by Los Angeles police in August and is currently free on a $150,000 bond. He pled not guilty in August and is awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 17. Andries could not be reached for comment.
The accuser, a military veteran who goes by John Doe in court papers, recently told ABC 7 that he met Andries in a writers program.

Laurence Andries, a TV writer and producer who has worked on shows including Blue Bloods, How to Get Away with Murder and The Pacific, has been charged with six felony counts of sexual assault in Los Angeles.
The accuser, a John Doe, claims Andries drugged and assaulted him in June 2022 after they met for drinks. The writer-producer was arrested in August 2023 after charges were filed by the Los Angeles District Attorney. He remains free on a $150,000 bond and has not yet had a preliminary hearing, according to the Los Angeles Times.

If it feels like only yesterday that a big TV franchise with a loyal fanbase had multiple spin-off series confirmed for a large streaming service, then that would be because it pretty much was only yesterday. But before we’ve even had chance to fully process the news of Dexter’s universe-broadening return – has swept in to steal Paramount+ with Showtime’s thunder, announcing not one, but two all-new additions to the Boschverse.
Based on Michael Connelly’s hugely successful crime novels, the original Bosch – which stars Titus Welliver’s Detective Jerry Edgar and LAPD Detective Renee Ballard, a prominent character in Connelly’s books who we’ve yet to see on screen, are in the works. Check out the loglines for the two as-yet-untitled shows below:

“Bosch” is a full-fledged TV universe now. The long-running police procedural starring Titus Welliver is getting two new spinoff series from Amazon Studios.
Currently untitled, the two series in development at Amazon are based on characters created by Michael Connelly in his series of Henry Bosch detective novels. One will focus on Jerry Edgar, a LAPD detective and Bosch’s former partner. Jamie Hector, best known for “The Wire,” played the character in all seven seasons of the original “Bosch” series.
The second show will star the character of Renee Ballard, who first appeared in Connelly’s 2017’s novel “The Late Show” and crossed over with Bosch in 2018 book “Dark Sacred Night.” Ballard, a detective and mentee of Bosch, was never featured on the original show.

Amazon Studios is expanding Michael Connelly’s Bosch TV universe with two spinoffs currently in development — one focused on “Bosch” mainstay Jerry Edgar and the other on Connelly’s newest protagonist, Renee Ballard.
The first untitled spinoff will sees Jerry Edgar, Harry Bosch’s former partner, tapped for an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami. Per the logline, “In this glamorous city, he is forced to balance his new life with the gritty underbelly of the city, while being chased by his mysterious past.”
The cast isn’t lined up just yet, but Jamie Hector, who played J. Edgar on all 7 seasons of “Bosch” and returned for a cameo during the first season of the sequel series “Bosch: Legacy,” is in talks to return, TheWrap has confirmed.

Bosch fans, rejoice! Amazon‘s universe, inspired by the work of best-selling author Michael Connolly, is expanding with two Bosch spinoffs. The first project is an Untitled J. Edgar spinoff, following Harry Bosch’s former partner, Detective Jerry Edgar, who accepts an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami. In this new locale, Edgar explores a gorgeous metropolis while balancing his life with the criminal element of the dreamy area. It’s rather inspiring to be in a new place until his past comes back to haunt him, making his new assignment more difficult than anticipated. According to Deadline, Jamie Hector, who plays Detective Jerry Edgar on Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, is in talks to reprise his role.
There’s also an Untitled Renee Ballard project in development. Detective Renee Ballard is in charge of the LAPD’s cold case sector. In addition to bringing dormant cases to a conclusion...

Amazon is developing two new series set within the “Bosch” universe.
Variety has learned that Amazon Studios is currently developing shows based on the Michael Connelly characters Jerry Edgar and Renee Ballard. Edgar was portrayed by Jamie Hector throughout the seven season run of “Bosch,” while Ballard has never been featured onscreen before. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Hector is poised to reprise the role of Edgar in the new show.
The move to expand “Bosch” is not unexpected. The original series ran for seven seasons on Prime Video until 2021, making it the longest-running Amazon series to date. The spinoff series “Bosch: Legacy,” which saw Titus Welliver return as Harry Bosch, debuted on Amazon Freevee in 2022. A second season is slated to premiere in fall 2023. It has not yet been decided if the two new shows, should they be picked up to series, would air on Prime Video or Freevee.

1. Bruce: another amazing episode of one of the best things I've ever watched in any media - I hope you and the entire team are really proud of the show and the reception so far. I'm sure the appreciation will grow over time just like it did for Band of Brothers; hopefully the Blu-Rays will outsell that little Avatar movie as well. Was there a conscious decision to return to the States and feature 35 minutes or so of relatively quiet action after the terror of Peleliu? I've read differing opinions on how Basilone actually died - mortar or bullets. Did you try to find the definitive truth or use what worked best for the scene? -PBandJ, MakingOf Forums
Pbj -- Thanks. It's pretty damn good, ain't it? Yes, we intentionally spent some time away from Hell so that the audience could breath. Otherwise people would just turn off their tvs.

Like "Band of Brothers" nine years ago, HBO's World War II miniseries "The Pacific" is a massive achievement. And like its Europe-set predecessor, it's at its best when it focuses on the small things as a way of reflecting the huge story it's telling.
The 10-part miniseries, which premieres at 9 p.m. Et Sunday (March 14), follows U.S. Marines as they advance across the Pacific theater of World War II, beginning with the landing on Guadalcanal in 1942 and continuing until the war's end in 1945. It's told principally through the eyes of three enlisted men: John Basilone (Jon Seda), Robert Leckie (James Badge Dale) and Eugene Sledge (Joe Mazzello), whose paths crossed during the campaign. The series is based in part on memoirs by Leckie ("Helmet for My Pillow") and Sledge ("With the Old Breed").
On the large scale, "The Pacific" does a frighteningly good job at depicting the brutal conditions not just in battle,...

After years of branding itself as a nonscripted destination, Bravo is venturing into scripted development for the first time with two projects that share the main themes of the channel's unscripted fare: fashion, design, cuisine and real estate.
The cable network's maiden scripted efforts, "Blueprint" and "30 under 30," were unveiled Thursday at Bravo's upfront presentation in New York, where it also announced series pickups for a quartet of reality shows, including the Sarah Jessica Parker-produced "American Artist" and several projects in development, including a docu-series from Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.
Bravo's only previous exposure to scripted programming came from a handful of off-network acquisitions, including "Six Feet Under" and "The West Wing."

Though Bravo has made a name for itself in the nonfiction TV game, NBC's sibling netlet is delving into a new genre: scripted series.
