Between the hyper-violent car combat of Twisted Metal and Fallout’s familiar-looking Mysterious Stranger, it’s pretty clear that George Miller’s Mad Max franchise has been incredibly influential in the world of gaming. That’s why you might find it surprising that video games directly based on the adventures of Max Rockatansky have been notoriously difficult to get off the ground.
From Mindscape’s Outlander – which was supposed to have been an official Mad Max adaptation until the studio lost the license when the title was nearly complete – to the ill-fated Melbourne House project which would have been the first Australian-made game based on the franchise, telling an interactive Road Warrior yarn has never been easy.
In fact, only two officially licensed Mad Max games have ever seen the light of day. While the first one was simply a re-skin of 1988’s Road Raider, the second might just be...

God of War is one of the oldest and most successful PlayStation first-party franchises. Gamers everywhere are pretty much aware of how legendary this franchise is, even if they haven’t played one of these games. This franchise spans eight mainline installments that were released on major consoles and one very small game that was launched on mobile devices.
Besides releasing on various console generations, these games have gone through a number of directors. The franchise started with its creator, David Jaffe, then was taken over by Stig Asmussen, who worked on Gow 3. Finally, the franchise went to Cory Barlog, who gave it a soft reboot with God of War 2018. But David Jaffe is not very happy with the latest game, God of War: Ragnarok.

God of War is definitely an iconic franchise; there’s never been a doubt about it. From the very first game on PlayStation 2 back in 2005 to God of War: Ragnarok, these games have been pretty excellent. In fact, no matter how they change over time, the developers have made sure these games remain as fun to play as the fans want them to be.
There’s no doubt about the fact that these games have indeed changed; from a distant third-person camera to over-the-shoulder, developers have brought about a major shift. But no matter how games change, fans like to be reminded of the old times in a good way. That’s what God of War: Ragnarok did.

God of War has been one of PlayStation’s heavy hitters and powerful franchises for quite some time. The series received a significant overhaul in the form of a soft reboot in 2018 thanks to director Cory Barlog and made one of the greatest games of all time, but Barlog is now ready to move on with a brand new IP set outside the godly Pantheons and realms that Kratos vanquished.
Cory Barlog Teasing His Next Project Beyond God Of War
Cory Barlog directed God of War 2 and God of War (2018) then served as a creative director and producer for God of War: Ragnarok.
Barlog is notorious for his cheerful and mischievous acts on social media and often casually drops hints and teases for his projects. His latest act caught the attention of fans which could be a hint to his newest project.

Amazon Prime and Bethesda shook hands to bring Fallout fans the one thing they have been craving for a very long time. The Fallout series was announced a while ago, and its trailer was made public back in 2023. Eventually, the creators even announced a launch date for the series, which is April 11, 2024.
Among this slew of announcements, some things pleasantly surprised everyone. One of them was the fact that the Dark Knight writer and creator of Westworld, Jonathan Nolan, was one of the showrunners on this project. The second surprise was that none other than Walton Goggins would be playing a crucial part in this series—a part of a ghoul. But he signed this role way before he knew what it was all about!

God of War: Ragnarok is an incredibly well-made game. Its story surely leaves fans desiring more, but its gameplay, level design, visuals, and music make up for it. Something that brings this game to the top, though, is its characters and the actors playing them. From Kratos to Odin, every character in God of War is played with excellence.
The evidence lies in the fact that Christopher Judge, the incredible actor behind God of War, himself won the Best Actor award during the Game Awards ceremony. What’s even better is that he got this award from none other than Al Pacino. But it looks like he wasn’t always open about working on such a project before.
Christopher Judge would not have played Kratos in God of War if things were different

Originally announced earlier this year, Variety reports that Amazon has now officially ordered “God of War” to series, a live action television show based on the video game franchise.
Rafe Judkins (“Wheel of Time”) has been set as showrunner for the co-production between Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television in association with PlayStation Productions.
Variety provides the following synopsis: “Based on the massively popular 2018 video game, the show follows Kratos, the God of War, who, after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard.
“When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son Atreus to spread her ashes from the highest peak — his wife’s final wish. The Dad of War is coming to television. Well, streaming television. Amazon Prime Video has ordered a series adaptation of the PlayStation action video-game series “God of War,” it was announced Wednesday.
First created in 2005, the “God of War” franchise focuses on Kratos, a Spartan warrior who becomes the god of war after taking revenge on the original god Ares for the death of his family, and eventually wages war on the entire Greek pantheon. The Prime Video series will be based on the two most recent games in the franchise: 2018’s “God of War” and last month’s “God of War: Ragnarök,” which saw Kratos leave Greece for the Norse realm of Midgard.
The storyline of the show will see Kratos, after the death of his second wife Faye, setting off on a journey with his son Atreus to spread her ashes from the highest peak of the realm.

Whether it be in the context of box office cinema, small scale television or even animated roles, actors are replaced all the time for myriad reasons. Directorial changes, availability (or lack thereof) and untimely deaths often crop up as some of the most common obstacles standing in the way of consistency though sometimes, it seems, professionals are unceremoniously replaced without even the slightest courtesy.
That appears to have been the case with Tc Carson, at least, who has revealed in a recent interview with YouTuber djvlad why he was unable to reprise the role of Kratos in Sony Santa Monica’s God of War soft reboot. Having established itself as one of the most authentic Star Wars adventures since the Original Trilogy, The Mandalorian, despite only being in its second season, already has a legion of followers. So popular has the show become, in fact, that it stands head and shoulders above any other content available on the House of Mouse’s Disney Plus streaming platform, with millions tuning in each week to see what fate awaits Mando and Grogu (Aka Baby Yoda).
As a welcome addition to modern pop culture, then, it’s hardly surprising that fans of other forms of entertainment besides television are eager to see the series branch out, particularly to video games. Earlier this week, in fact, God of War director Cory Barlog voiced his desire to witness a studio take on such a project, in turn describing how the source material already serves as the perfect formula for an interactive experience.

If you think the subject matter of Disney’s The Mandalorian is the perfect premise for an open world video game, you’re not the only one.
Cory Barlog, the director behind 2018’s God of War reboot as well as next year’s Ragnarök sequel is in total agreement and, what’s more, has even seen fit to pitch his own broad ideas as to how such a title can work. Sharing his opinions over on Twitter, he describes how the theoretical (as far as we know) Star Wars spinoff could have players take control of Din Djarin as he explores distant worlds in the Razor Crest, picking up bounties and other odd jobs in order to help pay for armor and ship upgrades.
As anyone who’s watched (and rewatched) season 1 can no doubt attest to, early episodes in the hit series clearly take structural inspiration from the medium.

The revelation that Rey was Palpatine’s granddaughter in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was surprising for many reasons. For one, it suggested that the Emperor, the most evil being in the galaxy known for his gruesome appearance, had actually had a love life. You might wonder what drove J.J. Abrams and writer Chris Terrio to come up with that idea, but in actual fact, it wasn’t them who came up with it. George Lucas did.
Test footage recently surfaced online for the abandoned Star Wars: Underworld TV series, which was a big pet project of Lucas’ that he developed for years before Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm. The sprawling show would have taken place prior to the Original Trilogy, following various characters from the movies. One of these was Palpatine himself, whose storyline would’ve seen him fall in love with a woman and have his heart broken.

The years may have proven that video game adaptations are not a good idea when it comes to film, but God of War director Cory Barlog seems to think they’d make excellent TV shows.
It’s difficult to find a successful live-action adaptation from a video game in the history of both mediums. In fact, we could make a long list of every failed attempt to bring these popular and fictional worlds to life, many of which have been wasted because the audience failed to connect to the adaptation as much as they did the source. Even something like Netflix’s The Witcher is, in fact, an adaptation of novels, despite Cdpr’s massively popular trilogy of games.
So, it’d stand to reason that not many devs would like to see adaptations of their work on the big screens or even television, not to mention that many such...

It looks likely we’ll be returning to the fantasy realm of Midgard sooner than you might expect. That’s right, a new God Of War sequel may already be secretly in development at Sony Santa Monica.
We know this thanks to a recent tweet from the developer’s narrative animator, Kim Newman, who’s recently been snapped wearing a full motion-capture suit. As you can see below, it’s pretty clear what she’s teasing in the pic:

Sure, I know the majority of all you PlayStation faithful out there are already expecting a sequel – I mean, God Of War was a huge blockbuster hit for the Us-based studio and Sony, after all – but it’s still great to hear something a bit more concrete confirming its existence nonetheless.

Is the God of War team taking a trip to outer space?
God of War director Cory Barlog has seemingly been using his Twitter account to tease some kind of sci-fi project.
This is all a bit strange, but a quick look at Barlog's Twitter account reveals that he has changed his photo to a picture of the Voyager 1 space satellite, has sent out a strange tweet that just states "End Transmission," and has changed his bio to read "..... ..... .... ... .. ." That last bit has already been translated via morse code and apparently reads "55Hsie."
What does that mean? It's really anyone's guess, but the Sie part feels like a reference to Sony Interactive Entertainment. That would seem to indicate that this is in reference to a new PlayStation game, but again, most of this is all speculative at this time.
The other strange thing about this tease is...

The director of the video game God of War is skeptical about President Donald Trump partially blaming mass shootings on video games.
The United States is facing a horrific loop that appears in no danger of changing anytime soon. Somewhere, someday, there is a horrific mass shooting that makes national news, and politicians offer variations on thoughts of sympathy and vague statements of prayer while doing little or nothing to curb gun violence. Indeed, the only recent action was President Donald Trump reversing the Obama era regulatory rule that had restricted those who had “mental impairments” and needed help managing government benefits from buying a gun, including the kind of assault weapons used this past weekend in nightmarish shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio.
So President Trump standing in front of a microphone and promising change again is hardly surprising, but given one of the...

God of War's star was almost cut from the final game along with his son.
As odd as it may sound, it seems that there was a time when God of War's developers were considering cutting Kratos from our 2018 game of the year.
"Early in discussion, people were saying we had to get rid of Kratos," said God of War director Cory Barlog in an interview at Gamelab in Barcelona. "It was like, 'he's annoying, he's done'...They really did not like the character. They wanted a new character. It took a lot of convincing to make them think it was a good idea."
It seems that the basic problem was that people weren't convinced that the anti-hero Kratos would work in the modern age. While Kratos was a breath of fresh air when the original God of War was released in 2005, times have changed since then,...

Like everyone else who matters, I’m a big fan of George Miller’s 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road. I saw it in theatres three times, and by the third, I realized it would always be my favorite action film. So of course when the Rage 2 previews dropped, showcasing the trailblazing, dust-kicking vehicular exploration, I was sold. The map looked diverse, the combat looked like gory fun, and the aesthetic, while divisive, seemed like it was at least trying to say something. What we got was a hack-job side quest simulator with some stellar combat and an open world that manages to feel as barren as Mad Max’s desert wasteland (in a bad way).
From the opening moments, I felt tepid excitement at what Avalanche, makers of exclusively 7/10 games, and id Software, masters of the Fps, would accomplish. But when I was greeted with a clunky prologue full of...

The God of War name was picked at random, as one of three potential titles thrown into a hat.
Here's an interesting glimpse behind the scenes into the not-always-glamorous world of video game development: as it turns out, the title for God of War was picked out of a hat at random because the developers couldn't agree on a name for the game.
The God of War series debuted during the PS2 era, with David Jaffe, who was working at Sony's Santa Monica Studio at the time, being credited as the franchise's creator. He directed the first and second games in the series, which were released in 2005 and 2007 respectively. Stig Asmussen then directed God of War III for PS3, before Cory Barlog came in to direct the 2018 God of War revival for PS4.

Director Cory Barlog's God of War Dlc ideas were basically "too big" to make...
Sony and Santa Monica Studio's God of War was one of the biggest games of last year, garnering glowing reviews and massive sales as well as captivating fans along the way. Rejigging Kratos into a struggling father was a masterstroke from a storytelling standpoint, and the graphics and gameplay didn't disappoint in bringing that idea to life. But one thing the game didn't have was any big post-release Dlc.
Although there has been a decent amount of surrounding materials for the game's legions of loyal fans - including a Deluxe Edition, extra skins, a novelization, an audiobook, some Dark Horse comics, a Photo Mode, and New Game Plus - the lack of major story Dlc didn't go unnoticed.
Now, director Cory Barlog has explained why there wasn't any God of War Dlc.

“God of War” developer Sony Santa Monica is searching for a number of individuals to fill various roles at the studio, implying that work has already begun on the sequel.
Sony Santa Monica’s most recent ad listing is seeking a senior character concept artist to work on an unnamed project that will feature “characters and creatures steeped in story, mythology, mixed with strong historical detail and influences.” This is the latest advertisement in a long line of many, which first began appearing around March, even before the first “God of War” ever went on sale.
Applicants will be asked to create “characters, gods, creatures, and props,” which certainly seems to hint at a new “God of War” that’s in development. Barring an expansion or Dlc for the current game, this more than likely means there’s something

Without trying to sound too hyperbolic, 2018’s ‘God of War‘ is perhaps the greatest experience that I’ve ever had as a gamer. It’s a game that, when it was first announced, induced a massive groan from me. You see, when a franchise reaches it’s eighth installment on its third generation of console, this is usually a sign that it’s running out of gas. It could be easy to fall back on the success of the previous installments, especially when it comes to the three main games release for both the PS2 & PS3. The release of ‘God of War III’ in 2010 offered a sense of closure for a series that had stretched the limits of its concept to the maximum. Even a true reboot of the series would have felt as is it was treading the same ground as its predecessors. In a nutshell, it felt like...

It might seem silly to say this now — now that “God of War” has emerged from nearly a decade of slumber to rapturous acclaim — but when Kratos and Atreus took those first halting steps into the swirling snows of fantasy Norseland back at E3 2016, there were some that wondered if Sony’s Santa Monica Studio could really stick the transition. After all, translating the ashen-skinned “Ghost of Sparta” from the series’ baroque vision of mythic Greece to an entirely different culture proved to be a lot harder than just sticking a pair of Viking horns on his head and calling it a day.
As creative director Cory Barlog recalls, the northward shift was the logical endpoint of a lengthy research cycle that involved Barlog and his fellow writers delving into as many mythological systems as they could get their hands on, sifting through the likes of the ancient Mayans and...

God of War is a triumphant return to the series, but this isn’t the furious rampage we’ve known before. Unlike the stagnancy growing among other franchises in the genre, God of War has learned to evolve in these past five years, creating a more thoughtful, storytelling-based approach. But it doesn’t just craft one of the most heartfelt father-son stories in years, the game consistently delivers on almost every other area perfectly, while simultaneously holding onto the core of its predecessors and the fantastical nature of what made God of War successful in the first place.
God of War is seemingly absent of its puddle deep, annoying protagonist killing everything that breathes. Instead a roughed, mentally withered Kratos built of experience and stories. As the director, Cory Barlog, said himself, “Kratos was an angry lump of muscle, I made him a struggling father”. However, his roots haven’t been forgotten,...

Spoilers Ahead.
God of War is what happens when you take a lot of great ideas established elsewhere and throw a bunch of money at a hugely talented team – in this case, Santa Monica Studios – with the purpose of putting those ideas into a coherent whole. Sometimes the best games are like this: nothing mechanically new under the bonnet, but so exquisitely refined and thoughtfully constructed that they become the new gold standard.
God of War resonates with me personally because it brings to mind two of my all-time favourite games. One is familiar to anyone with good gaming taste: Ninja Theory’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was lauded on its release last year, and went on to sweep the board at the Baftas. The other comparison, which I could never shake from my mind as I skipped merrily into Helheim, is Creative Assembly’s underrated last-gen oddity, Viking: Battle for Asgard.

Welcome back to another review, this time we are here to review God of War! This year's God of War not only changed its location, it changed the game from top to bottom. Sony Santa Monica’s “God of War” sequel is now officially the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive, selling more than 3.1 million copies globally in the first three days. It dethroned Naughty Dog’s “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” which sold 2.7 million copies worldwide in its first seven days back in 2016.
“When we first revealed ‘God of War’ less than two years ago, we knew we had something truly special,” Sony Interactive Entertainment vice president of marketing Asad Qizilbash wrote on the PlayStation Blog. “Fans reacted with tremendous excitement to this bold reimagining of the franchise, and we were thrilled to explore the unique father-son dynamic between Kratos and Atreus. Fast-forward to present day with the game’s release, and we are humbled to see such positive reviews.”

At its heart, “God of War” is the story of a journey, an odyssey undertaken by father and son in the face of incredible odds. It’s a game with an incredible story, and one that’s masterfully told, but it’s not a “story game” that sacrifices gameplay for narrative. Its an important distinction, and one that’s supported by a novel one-shot camera that never wavers or cuts, regardless of whether we’re in a quiet scene of Kratos and his son interacting or a bombastic action sequence where gods and giants clash.
For the ninth game in a franchise, “God of War” is remarkably pioneering. While many games treat the ephemeral nature of the camera in games as one of the medium’s strengths, allowing them to do things with it that would be impossible in film, “God of War” treats it like a physical object. The...

Rapturous reviews have made it clear that Kratos’s son, Atreus, is at the heart of the new “God of War’s” successful reinvention of the franchise. He functions as the game’s emotional center, and he regularly fills in the gaps in Kratos’s knowledge with his own – so perhaps it should come as no surprise that Sunny Suljic, the actor who portrays him, was doing the same for his in-game dad on set.
“One of the days I really remember was him teaching me to dab. Sometimes during setups, music would play, and so, he was dabbing,” Chris Judge, the voice of Kratos, tells Variety, laying out a scene we can only hope was motion captured. “He had his own little take on it, so I was like, ‘What’d you just do, dog?’ So, we spent like 20 minutes of him just teaching me his own little variation on dabbing.
