Ukrainian-born, Miami-based producer, songwriter, composer, and filmmaker Rostislav Vaynshtok (Terrifier 2), better known as Slavvy, has officially signed on to score All My Friends Are Dead, the upcoming slasher film from Saw IV-3D writer and The Collector director Marcus Dunstan.
All My Friends Are Dead follows a group of close college friends who get a steal on a killer Airbnb for the biggest music festival of the year. A weekend of partying quickly takes a turn for the worst as members of the group are murdered one by one. They soon discover that each one of their deaths directly corresponds to one of the seven deadly sins.
The film, which stars stars Jojo Siwa and Jade Pettyjohn, is currently in post-production.

Numbers have begun rolling in and it appears they are falling relatively in line with where we saw them on Thursday. As of right now, Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie is eyeing a first place finish with what is expected to be in the $22 million range as pre-sale numbers mixed with expected matinee walk up business look to be very strong for this animated sequel. I actually went to the movies last night (to see The Equalizer 3 for a second time with some friends who hadn’t yet seen it) and our movie got out around 11pm, as we were standing around outside the theater we noticed a huge crowd of excited kids and parents leaving the theater. You could tell the kids had a blast with the movie they just saw. It is possible they just got out from seeing Saw X, but smart money is on Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie.

Composer Charlie Clouser entered the history books twice in the past year: first for being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Nine Inch Nails, and second for scoring “Saw X.” Clouser has been with the “Saw” franchise since the first film in 2004, and by writing the music for all 10, he dethrones John Williams (who created nine “Star Wars” scores) as the U.S. composer responsible for the greatest number of consecutive U.S. feature film scores in one series.
Clouser isn’t one to rest on his laurels, however — “Saw X” contains some of his best work to date in the form of a score that retains the elements that made the other “Saw” movies great (including Clouser’s now-classic “Saw” theme) but leaps forward in new directions. “Saw X” is, in many ways, the most classical film of the series, one that...

Nine Inch Nails were finally able to celebrate their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction this weekend in their native Cleveland, which included a Saturday night concert that featured the return of several former members from the band’s Pretty Hate Machine era.
Although Trent Reznor and company were inducted into the Rock Hall in 2020, the event was scaled down to a television-only special due to the Covid-19 pandemic; a Cleveland celebration was then scheduled for 2021, only to be postponed again. Two years removed from the induction, the band...

Spiral: From the Book of Saw marks Charlie Clouser’s ninth film in the franchise and it's very apparent from the following Q&a that the original Nine Inch Nails member would love to score nine more. The tone and vibe around the Saw franchise is one that he loves and excels at, and with the Spiral original score now available, we've been provided with the following Q&a where he discusses keeping the sound of "Saw" fresh in the latest installment, working with Darren Lynn Bousman, and more:
Was the transition from Nine Inch Nails to film scoring a hard one for you? If you would have not gotten into film scoring, what do you think you would have done?
Even before I got involved with Nine Inch Nails, I had worked for a few years with a composer who was scoring a big TV network detective series in the 1980’s,...

Back in 2010 when Saw 3D (aka Saw: The Final Chapter) looked to bring the horror series to a grisly close, it was already four movies on from the death of franchise antagonist John ‘Jigsaw’ Kramer (Tobin Bell), and it did seem like there was few places left to go for the twisty and brutal death trap-filled series. But in the years following, fans demand for what had become a yearly occurrence grew again, and with 2017’s The Spierig Brothers’ underrated Jigsaw the series was back. But if Jigsaw was more of a welcome return of the series’ output, Spiral is not so much a radical reset but a ruthless progression of Saw‘s modus operandi. The series has started to move on from Kramer and his acolytes but his shadow looms over and inspires a new generation, and Spiral: From the Book of Saw is that generation.

It’s been nearly 15 years since the last time Darren Lynn Bousman was holding the directorial reins of a Saw film. And now he’s back at the helm of this latest entry, Spiral, where things are very different, both for him and for the Twisted Pictures franchise as well. While not a continuation of the John Kramer mythology that was at the center of the first eight Saw movies, Spiral is still very much made with Jigsaw’s enduring legacy in mind, but just expanding his ideology in new ways now that his character has been dead for well over a decade.
Recently, Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Bousman about his involvement in Spiral and returning to the Saw family after all these years. During our chat, he also provided us with some insight into the inspirations behind Spiral’s traps, working with his cast, the...

A month after the release of the trailer for “Spiral: From the Book of Saw,” rapper 21 Savage, who serves as executive producer of the film’s soundtrack, has dropped a music video for the song “Spiral.” (See behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot below.)
The film, which opens in over 2,000 theaters on May 14, stars Chris Rock (who’s also executive producer), Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols.
The song “Spiral” was produced by Slaughter Gang’s Kid Hazel and marks 21 Savage’s first new release since “Savage Mode II” with Metro Boomin in Oct. 2020. The soundtrack album, meanwhile, is being released by Slaughter Gang/Epic Records. Composer Charlie Clouser (Nine Inch Nails) did the score.
The video for “Spiral” was shot in the Saw escape room in Las Vegas and intercuts footage from the movie. Savage and the music figure prominently in the Lionsgate movie and campaigns to promote its theatrical run.

Hot on the heels of a freshly released trailer comes a new wave of Jigsaw posters that give us a better idea of what to expect when we shuffle into cinemas this fall. Actually, the first poster found its way online earlier this month and caught our attention with its cryptic “Become Jigsaw” tagline, but you may agree that each of the six above make quite the impression.
This time around, we’re offered three separate taglines that are as chilling as they are intriguing: “He is everyone,” “He is everywhere” and “He is everything.” And while it does sound like someone is piecing together the chorus to a touching ballad in tribute of John Kramer, we can’t help but think this strengthens the ongoing theory that a copycat is at play. After all, neither...

Although we could argue that Lionsgate exhausted moviegoers with the initial run of the Saw series by releasing seven films in quick succession, it’s undeniable that it became one of the most lucrative horror franchises of all-time. That said, it shouldn’t surprise any of us that they’re taking a second stab at it with Jigsaw, the recently confirmed title of the relaunch.
Now, we can probably all agree that waiting for some significant details regarding the plot has been possibly even more painful than finding yourself on the business end of a reverse bear trap, but the synopsis does provide some hints:
Bodies are turning up around the city, each having met a uniquely gruesome demise. As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one man: John Kramer. But how can this be? The man known as Jigsaw has been dead for over a decade. Or has an...

Ever since directing the original Saw back in 2004, James Wan’s career has only continued to skyrocket. Say what you will about the franchise that his debut spawned, but the original film – in all its low budget simplicity – was the work of someone with potential and, better yet, the talent to see that potential through. In the years since, his name has become synonymous with modern horror, spinning two further franchises into gold with Insidious and The Conjuring, and while he’s also helped guide Furious 7 through its troubled production and is helming next year’s Aquaman, fans of Wan will always look forward to seeing him return to his horror roots.
But while the director has seen success after success over the years, there’s one year in particular that always seems to get overlooked: 2007. It was then that Wan...

You know, the funny thing about crossover miniseries such as Death of X and Inhumans vs. X-Men is that they probably wouldn’t have happened if not for the delicate situation involving Disney and Fox when it comes to film rights.
Now, bear with me because this is relevant to the topic at hand. We all know that Disney distributes movies based on most Marvel properties, while Fox controls X-Men and Fantastic Four. The more intricate aspects are a discussion for another day, but, long story short, recent years have seen the publisher shift focus mainly to the properties Disney has on film rights to, with Inhumans pretty much becoming the “new mutants” (not to be confused with New Mutants, which is a different beast entirely) in the Marvel Universe.

I’m thrilled to introduce the first episode of an ongoing new podcast called GeekTyrant Audio, where we put the focus on the artists behind the music of the TV shows and films that we love.
Charlie Clouser is the composer of Resident Evil: Extinction, the Saw franchise, Wayward Pines, Childhood’s End, and also wrote the opening theme to American Horror Story. Those works follow a long-running music career as a member of Nine Inch Nails, and a collaborator with A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, White Zombie, Rammstein, Type O Negative, Fuel. He has even collaborated with Marilyn Manson and David Bowie.

In what’s become the best, and craziest, show this summer, Fox’s Wayward Pines has become must-see TV.
The intense episodes play out more like a movie and the soundtrack is haunting and other-worldly.
Lakeshore Records has announced it will release the Wayward Pines – Original Television Soundtrack digitally on July 17 and on CD July 24, 2015. The album features the show’s original score by Charlie Clouser (Saw, Numb3rs).
“The main direction I received was that the score should help with the feeling that ‘something is not right’ in the town of Wayward Pines,” said Clouser. “For a while, we don’t know if Matt Dillon’s character is hallucinating, or maybe still in a coma and just dreaming, so the score needed to lean toward a ‘malfunctioning’ feel – that meant using sounds that are a little ‘out of whack’. As the series progresses, the score starts to get more and...

Think, when your heart races a little more to the strains of the macabre theme to "American Horror Story," or if it's altogether stopped during this first season of "Wayward Pines." If Nine Inch Nails' "Downward Spiral"; or Marilyn Manson's solid '90s albums; or Rob Zombie, White Zombie, or select albums from A Perfect Circle, Killing Joke, Helmet or Puscifer have been in your spinlist, then Clouser has likely already left a mark on you. And if you've ever survived a "Saw" series movie, then Clouser's compositions may still be floating through your veins. The writer-musician recently wrapped on scoring aforementioned Fox show starring Matt Dillon. Today, we exclusively premiere two of Clouser's score selections from the show -- "Climb Out" and "Leaking Oil" -- and discuss just...

Cinelinx had the opportunity to speak with Charlie Clouser, formerly of Nine Inch Nails, about his score for the new TV series Wayward Pines. Join us as we get an exclusive in-depth look at the techniques and inspiration behind the music for this hit new show.
Charlie Clouser is a multi-instrumentalist composer, musician, producer, programmer and remix artist who has worked with some of the seminal recording artists of the last twenty years. Charlie came into prominence as a member of Nine Inch Nails from 1994-2000. Before joining the band as keyboardist/programmer, he’d already built a following with his extreme synth work and remixes for Prong, Marilyn Manson, White Zombie, and others. Charlie’s first film scoring effort, Saw, became an instant cult classic. His scores for the subsequent Saw series continue to define the films. Raw, grinding, propulsive, punctuated by incredible layers of sound and energy, they...

"Wayward Pines" is earning quite a lot of chatter with only a couple of episodes having been broadcast. Matt Dillon, Terrence Howard, Carla Gugino, Juliette Lewis and Melissa Leo are among the cast, while M. Night Shyamalan directed the pilot and is executive producing the series. But another key player establishing the mood of the show has been composer Charlie Clouser, and today we have a couple of exclusive tracks from this week's episode "Our Town, Our Law." Clouser might be best known as a one-time member of Nine Inch Nails, but he's made a strong footprint in the television- and film-composing fields. He's scored seven "Saw" films, "Resident Evil: Extinction" and "Death Sentence," as well as "American Horror Story." And the tracks below from "Wayward Pines," "Please Stay" and "Forest Kitchen," highlight his ability to conjure stirring, eerie and evocative...

I think it’s fair to say that director James Wan is having a pretty good year so far. The Conjuring has been one of the surprise hits of the year and has met with much critical praise, Insidious Chapter Two is about to be released and will likely prove a big hit at the box office on a low-budget. Wan has had two films released in the same year before though and he wasn’t always so lucky.
After Saw became a massive hit on a very small budget, Wan chose not to stick around for the sequel and instead became a producer on that film and moved on to other projects. His next film would also be a horror film and was the first that his writing partner Leigh Whannell had written for a studio. Titled either Shhhh, Silence, The Doll or Mary Shaw during production, the film...

A horror movie without great music to help push your emotions is nothing, so I would like to highlight some of our Masters of Horror Music Composers. I would first like to start off with the source of some of the most the chilling, creepy, and disturbing music we hear these days: Charlie Clouser. This guy knows how to chill the audience right down to the bone. His most recent works can be heard in the upcoming horror film, The Collection, and can…...

American Horror Story: Asylum
Stars: Jessica Lange, Chloe Sevigny, Joseph Fiennes, James Cromwell, Evan Peters, Adam Levine, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Zachary Quinto, Clea DuVall, Sarah Paulson | Written by Tim Minear | Directed by Bradley Buecker
How could I not love a show like American Horror Story?
Think about it. It’s a season long anthology built around the conceit that 13 episodes equal one story. I like the first season story revolving around the Harmon family moving into a house that has a history longer than time. It’s just so that said history is a broken bloody one that took the lives of the family and spawned a whole hell of a lot of evil. It was an everything but the kitchen sink kind of storytelling and while it was gripping, it was absolutely clear from the get-go that topping the heights and lows of season one would be a tall order.

We are less than a week away from the second season of American Horror Story. I wasn’t the hugest fan of the first season due to it feeling more melodramatic than it needed to be. Still, there is no doubt that the second half of the season delivered in spades – which brought it back on track to a show I cared about. I know one thing that I thought about at the beginning with naming the show as they did that they don’t need to focus on one particular group of characters. This lends the show to really be pretty unpredictable when deciding the fate of the main characters which is an aspect that I personally enjoyed. Jessica Lange along with a few others will be returning in the second season but as far as we know, they will be different characters. I’m hoping there will be...

A few years ago, in between writing duties on various Saw and Feast sequels, Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton went out and made their own little horror movie, and they seemed more than content to simply present a nasty new terror flick that, at the very least, did not have a number in its title. That flick was called The Collector, and while it certainly does have some Saw DNA in both the screenplay and directorial departments, it also managed to offer a relatively novel premise and location. In today's horror landscape, "something familiar plus some novelty" is just good enough, and The Collector still holds up as a vicious little indie flick that earns fans today.
So logically it's time for The Collector Part 2! (Don't feel too bad for the sequel-happy Dunstan and Melton; they're now working on Pacific Rim and the God of War movie.) But if these...

We caught up with horror screenwriter Patrick Melton (the man behind such frightful fare – along with cohort Marcus Dunstan – as the Feast series, Saw IV through 3D and The Collector) last week to chat about The Collection, Black Light, Piranha 3Dd, his new project Rise, and more.
“The Collection is in the final stages of post-production,” said the 36-year-old Illinois transplant of progress on the flick, which he co-wrote with director Marcus Dunstan and which has been snapped up for distribution by Liddell Entertainment, who distributed its predecessor The Collector. “We tested the film about a month or so ago in Chatsworth, California, and it tested wonderfully. Actually, it was the highest testing movie we've written. So we were very pleased with that. As a result the picture is locked, and we're putting on the spit and polish. Charlie Clouser of Saw fame is composing the score as we speak.

Opening titles sequences can indeed be viewed as an afterthought, but they are in fact extremely important to a show’s success. The opening title sequence of a television series can easily attract or repel viewers, and effect their decision as to whether or not it will be worth their time to invest and watch, or instead change the channel. Most television series don’t last very long, and the higher the ratings in those first few episodes, the better chance the show has of sticking around. Titles serve as a first impression, and as we all know, first impressions are important, especially in this day and age when there are so many other television shows to choose from. The title sequence thus fulfills the role of outlining the showrunner’s intentions and sets up the expectations of those watching. The sequence should also reflect the tone of the show,...

On the fence about watching FX's upcoming "American Horror Story"? We have a feeling the show's seriously creepy opening credits sequence might make up your mind for you. Read on for details of how you can watch the clip created by Kyle Cooper and his company, Prologue, who are also responsible for the acclaimed openers for Seven and "The Walking Dead".
EW.com premiered the sequence, which is set in the basement of the house that is the primary setting of the series. It not only announces the actors and creators but also provides a backstory for the house. “The title sequence is almost like a mystery,” says "American Horror Story" co-creator Ryan Murphy. “By the time you see the ninth episode of this season, every image in that title sequence will be explained. So for example, What are the jars in the basement? What is the mystery of the floating white Christening dress?...

FX’s new series American Horror Story is without a doubt one of the scariest things ever produced for television. Usually you have to hit up a multiplex for the kind of jolts delivered by this thriller, but creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk (Glee) have crafted a small-screen roller coaster ride. The series follows the Harmon Family — husband Ben (Dylan McDermott), wife Vivian (Connie Britton), daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga) — as they move into an old Los Angeles home with a dark history. For example, the home’s basement not only is in need of dusting but also might be...

Jerome Dillon is the composer of the upcoming crime drama For the Love of Money. The film is directed by Ellie Kanner (Wake) and stars Edward Furlong, Jeffrey Tambor, James Caan, Paul Sorvino, Steven Bauer, Oded Fehr and Jonathan Lipnicki. The movie follows the true account of a Jewish immigrant who searches for his piece of the American dream. Jenna Mattison co-wrote the screenplay and is producing the drama and Andrzej Sekula (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs) is the cinematographer on the project. Dillon is best known as a drummer with industrial rock group Nine Inch Nails. A number of musicians associated with the group, including Trent Reznor, the only constant member of the live-band, as well as former member Charlie Clouser have active careers as film composers now. Dillon has previously scored the 2009 horror thriller The Collector. No release date announcement has been made yet for For the Love of Money.

It's hard to imagine film music today without names like Danny Elfman or Hans Zimmer (for better or worse) who both started out in bands -- Oingo Boingo and The Buggles respectively -- before becoming film composers. More recently, rockers like Jonny Greenwood and Nick Cave have dazzled with their turns at film scoring.
Jeff Bond writing for The Hollywood Reporter, took a look at variety of established rockers-turned-film composers as well as new kid on the block, Trent Reznor, and dug up some details about how his highly acclaimed score for "The Social Network" came to be.
Director David Fincher had planned earlier collaborations with Reznor before approaching him with the idea of scoring the Facebook movie -- an ironic gig for Reznor, who famously bailed from Twitter and has railed against online music downloads. If Lionsgate and Twisted are to be believed, this could be the last time we try to get Tobin Bell to spill some secrets about his newest outing as Jigsaw, as Saw 3D is said to be the last installment in this legendary (and Guinness World Record-winning) franchise. Our own BC sat (actually stood) with Bell and director Kevin Greutert (returning to the chair after helming the underrated sixth entry) on the floor of Comic Con to pick their brains about the newest sequel, including what it was like working in 3D and having Dr. Gordon himself back in the mix. Both men are the only two (besides the producers and composer Charlie Clouser) who have been involved with every single film of the series, so it was a fitting pairing as we discuss Jigsaw's final game.

At this point you know what to expect from Lionsgate’s Saw VII, now newly retitled Saw 3D to reflect its trend-hopping three dimensions. Victims struggling in elaborate traps, the repetitive theme song (”The Final Test” by Charlie Clouser), and the long dead Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) growling about his grand plan. Except this time will be the last, or so they claim.
The final installment has also shifted back a weekend, finally giving in and avoiding the pressure of Paramount’s Paranormal Activity 2. The haunted house sequel will hit theaters as planned on October 22 and Lionsgate’s 3D torture flick is now scheduled for October 29.

Since Saw has become the 21st century’s Friday The 13th—an unstoppable once-a-year franchise with a signature villain—it only makes sense that in both cases, the sixth entry has proven to be surprisingly better than expected. Not that Saw VI takes the series into any surprising new directions, nor does it make much that’s fresh out of the saga’s stock ingredients. Yet it stacks up as a scarier and more satisfying viewing experience than the last few sequels.
Whether it’s due to the way director Kevin Greutert (the longtime Saw editor making his debut at the helm) and returning VI and V scripters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan spin their narrative, or maybe the fact that I’m just getting soft, the nagging issues that have plagued all the previous movies didn’t nag quite so much this time.
