Virgin River fans are in for a long wait. Netflix has revealed its 2024 TV slate, and unfortunately, the romantic drama is nowhere to be found. Season 6 of the show probably won’t arrive on the streamer until 2025.

That was a twist we didn’t see coming. Virgin River Season 5 ended on a major cliffhanger with the unexpected reappearance of a character everyone assumed was dead. His jaw-dropping reappearance is sure to change things for everyone in Virgin River. But one character in particular has reason to be wary of his return.
[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Virgin River Season 5.]
Who is Calvin on ‘Virgin River’?
The latest Virgin River shocker came at the end of season 5’s 10th episode. A very pregnant Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) was attending the town’s Labor Day festival. As she was leaving the event, a man approached her.
“I thought you were dead,” she says as we see that the strange man is Calvin (David Cubitt).
“Yeah, so did the person who tried to kill me,” he replies. “I don’t have to hide from her anymore.”
Calvin, in case you forgot, was Virgin River’s resident drug kingpin.

Excuse us while we pick our jaws up off the floor. Netflix’s Virgin River never fails to deliver when it comes to shocking, season-ending twists, whether it’s Mel finding Jack on the floor of his bar bleeding out from a bullet wound or Charmaine confessing that she lied when she said Jack was the father of her unborn babies. So, we were expecting something of a cliffhanger heading into Virgin River Season 5 Part 1 finale, “Labor Day.” But we still weren’t prepared for what happened in the episode’s final moments, and how it changed things for one key character.

Welcome back to Virgin River. Season 5 of the Netflix drama premieres Sept. 7, and hopefully, it answers all our questions about what’s next for Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge), Jack (Martin Henderson), Brady (Ben Hollingsworth), Brie (Zibby Allen), and the rest of the residents of Virgin River. Season 4 featured plenty of dramatic twists and a few unresolved cliffhangers. Here’s where things stand heading into the show’s two-part fifth season.
Jack is – and isn’t – the father
Virgin River Season 3 ended with Mel’s surprise pregnancy. But she wasn’t sure if she got pregnant from one last round of IVF with her dead husband’s embryos or if she conceived with her new beau, Jack. At first, Jack was hesitant to do paternity testing. He feared that if the baby wasn’t his, he’d feel differently about becoming a father. But eventually, he changed his mind and agreed to do the testing,...

Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth) is still in some serious trouble, but he definitely ends Virgin River Season 4 in a much better place than he started. After all, he’s a free man, no one thinks he tried to kill Jack (Martin Henderson) — that was Vince (Steve Bacic) — and things seem to be going well with Brie (Zibby Allen). Sure, Brady and Jack haven’t talked, and there’s the matter of the inevitable love triangle — given Mike (Marco Grazzini) and Brie’s relationship in the books — but things could be worse … right? Well, that’s where Melissa (Barbara Pollard) comes in, taking over Calvin’s (David Cubitt) operation and forcing Brady to play an active role in the drug distribution. Hollingsworth takes us inside Season 4 and teases what’s next for Brady. How’s Brady feeling about his and Brie’s relationship? He does worry their happiness won’t last… Benjamin Hollingsworth: Yeah,...

Over the course of 30 years, David Cubitt has managed to earn nearly 75 acting credits. From movies to TV shows, David has done a little bit of everything, and he’s always done it well. He is the type of actor whose range is so wide that he’s probably been in at least one thing you’ve seen (and liked). Many people will recognize him most, however, for his role in shows like Van Helsing, Siren, and The Detail. He also appeared in the first season of the Netflix series, Virgin River. "I never wanted to be in this alone." Elevation Pics from Canada has debuted an official trailer for an indie true story thriller titled American Woman, marking the feature directorial debut of award-winning writer / producer Semi Chellas. Not to be confused with that Sienna Miller disappearance drama from last year also titled American Woman, or the recent TV show also called "American Woman"; this is a different story. Inspired by the headline-dominating kidnapping of heiress Patty Hearst in 1974, this atmospheric drama is a fictionalized re-imagining of her time in hiding, from the perspective of Jenny, a political activist assigned to take care of her. Starring Hong Chau as Jenny, with Sarah Gadon, John Gallagher Jr., Lola Kirke, David Cubitt, and Ellen Burstyn. Looks like a rather intriguing film revisiting a real story from history. On Van Helsing Season 1, Vanessa awakened from a three-year coma after her supposed death and was not prepared by the world she encountered, but she had a natural flair for fighting and has proved integral in the fight to take some of the vampires down.

2Nd Update (9/23, 3:23 Pdt): An earlier version of this article listed Elle Evans as the actress who plays the title role in The Love Witch. That distinction in fact goes to Samantha Robinson. We regret the error. Update (9/22, 11:37 Pm Pdt): The same day this article was published, Paramount pushed back the release date for Rings from October 28 to February 3, 2017. Original Article: Fall has traditionally been viewed as the prime time of year for the horror film, but this summer was actually a pretty good one for the genre, with movies like The Conjuring 2, Lights Out, and the surprise smash Don't Breathe doing gangbusters business in the midst of blockbuster season. But the year's not over yet! With September in full swing, there are a number of worthwhile (and, yes, questionable) titles looming on the release calendar over the next three months. "Something's going on and it's not just in my head, I can prove it!" EuropaCorp has released the first trailer for a new thriller titled Shut In, from director Farren Blackburn. The film stars Naomi Watts as a child psychologist who moves to a big house in the middle of rural New England with her new foster care child, played by Jacob Tremblay (of last year's film Room), along with her other brain dead son. While at first she seems threatened by him, it turns out they're both being haunted by a "bad guy trying to kill them". Oh boy, watch out. This trailer reveals quite a bit of twists, including that it might be a supernatural thriller of sorts. Also starring Charlie Heaton, Oliver Platt, David Cubitt and Crystal Balint. Take a look below. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Farren Blackburn's Shut In, originally from USA...

For a movie that comes out November 11th, and stars Naomi Watts and Oliver Platt, there isn’t a lot of information about Shut In yet, but at least you now get a few images.
The film’s official synopsis describes it as a story about a widowed child psychologist (Watts) who lives an isolated existence in rural New England. Apparently caught in a deadly winter storm, she must find a way to rescue a young boy before he disappears forever… but, what that means exactly is anyone’s guess.
The exact wording is very odd, and put together with the, more or less, normal-looking images, which obviously involve something more scary than snow, it’s a little hard to guess exactly where this one is going.
Add to the guessing game that the film is directed by Farren Blackburn, who has really only done TV – Doctor Who, Daredevil, The Musketeers.

We're getting a cinematic reboot of "Van Helsing" in a few years, but before that SyFy will premiere their take on the heroic vampire slayer from Bram Stoker's "Dracula". Set in the future, Kelly Overton stars as Vanessa Van Helsing who is resurrected into a world overrun by vampires.
Chad Oakes, Co-Chairman of Nomadic Pictures says: "Van Helsing represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules. The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival."
Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, Paul Johansson, David Cubitt and Tim Guinee also star in the Neil Labute-produced series which premieres this Fall. Check out the key art below:...

Crack open the garlic cloves and wooden stakes, Count Dracula has found himself a new archnemesis. Yes, after ordering a 13-episode Van Helsing series late last year, Syfy has now secured Kelly Overton for the title role of Vanessa.

I'm sure they meant well. And by "they," I mean director Roland Emmerich, screenwriter Jon Robin Baitz, and the sprawling ensemble cast who all worked to make a movie that commemorates the Stonewall riots in New York, one of the flashpoints of the gay rights movement in America. The idea of making a film that captures not only the community that found its activist voice that day but that also articulates the tensions and the atmosphere that made the riots feel so urgent and necessary in the first place is a good idea, and perhaps one day, someone will make that movie. Unfortunately, "Stonewall" is the anti-"Selma," a movie that not only fails to fully capture the energy and importance of a true event but that fails so completely as a film that it is almost impressive.
